The mood in here was starting to go downhill (for me, anyway) several hundred pages before you decided you'd like to hang out in here more.

 

And no, the stuff I saw people complaining about was the off-topic arguments and the more raunchy stuff some of us were getting into a while back (which was mostly solved by people agreeing to put the more NSFW stuff under spoilers or directly linking to it in the case of fanworks, which people should have been doing anyway, because forum rules).

Ah okay. As long as people aren't blaming newcomers. Because honestly, I would leave if people got all sour about our presence.

 

But to the rest of it, I still think they should suck it up a bit. Though yea I understand wanting things to stay on topic. They'll see how good they've got it though soon enough if they decide to try out other threads, lol. Good luck with that, I say.

Guys and girls, can we go back to the way things were?

I've been following this thread (exception being right before DAI's release and while playing it to avoid spoilers) since the original Solas thread that was closed so we could open this one. I do miss it. Remember when Gaider came in and called us unicorns? - something amazing happened there because of the environment we'd created. Something that, sadly, wouldnt happen now. But it's natural for the community to change as the fanbase grows. And, while I understand people leaving the thread, the fact is, them leaving changed it just as much. I mean, its still an awesome thread (I sometimes wander into other character threads and this is the only one i ever actually post in), it's just different. yes, the occasional off-topic debate happens, but it rarely lasts long, and the most effective way to stop it is to jump in and talk about something else.

That said, i would 100% support the unicorns taking it back

I feel very welcomed here, but I can understand a few things have been recently a little uncomfortable. I hope no one has been upset by anything I have said, and I hope people come back and make it a place they'd enjoy having discussions in. I have no problems with arguments as long as everything remains respectful and welcoming.

It's the hermit. He's a hobo apostate....at least that is what he says he is. More specifically he's a guide. He has the lantern that is supposed to symbolize lighting your path with wisdom.

Its not that newcomers are unwelcome, by any means. Or that people here can't handle disparate opinions. But there was this sense that while people would disagree with you, no one would judge you. It was incredibly inclusive, to where people who would normally never feel comfortable posting in a forum like this did. And they could be themselves, and be honest, and people would be respectful. It was really cool, and not something you see in a public online forum, ever. Now... Yes, this thread is still incredibly civil compared to others, but it's not like before.

Even though there are arguments from time to time..they are handled really well. There has been no name calling, no one has been rude as far as I can tell. People apologize if they offend someone. I find this place very friendly and I'm happy I decided to stay here.

Merrill talks about the Creators and the Forgotten Ones when Hawke gives her the sylvan ring, which is also meant to be a reminder of the Betrayal for the Keeper, as well as a stern reminder about protecting the clan - which could mean mage Lavellan may have one (lore wise). There are also codex entries about the Creators and the Forgotten Ones, although the story from Clan Ralaferin differs in that Gisharel speaks about Fen'Harel offering both sides a truce in order to deceive them (which could be an example regarding how the clans differ from one another, as they have grown apart and changed after the exodus from the Dales).

Right now, this thread is not nearly at its worst. That goes to the day that he was announced as a female elf exclusive romance and randoms popped in to say that he was racist and only wanted them for elven babies.

 

I have went into other threads and immediately turned tail and came back here. As long as I can have my fics, lovely fanart and egg jokes, I am perfectly content to stay.

It's not too difficult to create one. A group of Dalish fans created the Dalish Supporters Group to have a place where we could have civil discussions about elven culture and lore that wouldn't get derailed by trolling, and made it private to avoid harassment. The same could be done for the Solas fans. That said, I've found this thread to be the nicest and safest place, comparatively to the rest of BSN.

I think the thread changed when there were like 4000(exaggeration) disparate mini-groups vying for control of the culture of the thread. Smut, tin-foil hat theories, arguing over Dalish, religion crap, people just wanting to sob because they just finished the game. Noone can decide!  It's bound to happen.  I'll pipe up when it's something that I want to talk about.  I'm here to cheerlead artists/fanfics(I'm currently in Abelas hell so send me moar) and talk about actual story and character development that makes sense and is not totally ****** bananas.  This thread is nowhere near as bad as the rest of the BSN, so for now I'll stick around.

People might just feel comfortable here. It's not like you can discuss the elves or the Dalish in the rest of the public forum without it going down in a blaze, and I think a lot of people find this to be a safe place where they can share their love of elven mysteries, the city elves, the Dalish, or a myriad of other elven facets with people who might relate to them. Different people have attracted Solas - people who, like me, befriended him as a pro-Dalish Lavellan, or the multitude of others who romanced him and saw a very different, more intimate side to him.
