Also to add: I tend to think he have it long, long before, however 2 things don't fit me here:

Spoiler

Just going to point out that the only real hole in the second one is what people think they know about Solas' personality ;) :P

We don't really know enough about Solas to say what he's truly capable of morally. But anyway, what's morally wrong about trying to kill an evil monster darkspawn guy with an apparent love for prada?

Also, I could be wrong, but generally, if someone is normally always good natured, then kills in rage, they show some sign of remorse after the deed is done.

Solas completely pwn'd those mages in a flash, and not a single **** was given. No fucks at all. Just something to think about.

I wonder if Solas, while sleeping in the Fade, stumbled across Coryfish's or found out about his long brewing plan. Cory wants to tear open the veil and Solas, in typical Dread Wolf style, convinces him that he could do so if the has a "magic orb". Solas thinks that the orb will just destroy him completely when he tries to unlock it, therefore allowing Solas to awaken and collect his newly activated God-power. Unfortunately sh*t goes pear-shaped and he ends up wakening to no power and a catastrophe that he had never anticipated. Might also explain why Cory didn't recognise him. Solas could easily shift form in the Fade.

Spoiler

I think what Corry is refering to is that its been in planning ever since he 'last' entered the Black City, a thousend years ago.

Solas probably just woke up. Maybe even Corry was the one who woke him(?).

Solas saw the state the world was in, his people/the elves situation (barely being elves anymore, forgotten who they once were) and he wanted to correct the misstake he made in the past. But he was still groggy from his nap so Corry pulled a veil over his head with some fancy lie about helping and Solas believed him.

He then walked away with the orb and Solas could do nothing beacuse he didn't have his powers/ was just as an ordinary mage.

And once again we're back to my previous questions arbout the orb and its powers. (still would like people's thoughts about that)

Was Solas's divinity powers stored in the orb? And if so, the achor most have been one of them. Meaning that if so the IQ got that power(?)

Does that mean that Solas could previously do what the IQ can; the rift opening/closing, the 'mark of the rift' ability, walk conscious in and out of the fade etc? Or has the IQ developed/strenghtend that power with its own spirit and made the anchor even more than it was?

Even Solas seems impressed over what he/she does with it...

I guess people have a different view on him depending on how they played. I saw the romance only on youtube, so my perspective is from a Bromance, and I always saw Solas as a closet badass. For me, that incredibly ruthless and badass strategy is exactly what I'd expect from the man that sealed away all the gods and supposedly created the veil in the first place.

That was born from necessity, as Cole would have us believe. I think he'd go to those drastic measures if he saw no other way. Some might say he didn't do so with the Herald, but Mythal provided him another way, so it wasn't necessary.

Maybe... but I think my opinion comes not only from Solasmancer point of view (after all I have 2 PT as non-Lavellan), but also his general attitude. You know, he's generally approving helping people, he's very concerned about Cole not loosing his true nature, talking about how compassion and other good feelings are important etc.

I consider Solas a man who would justify the means by their results (besides he used to be referenced in promo materials I think as "the brain", PW describes him in the interview as someone who accepts the action if it results from a logical reasoning), this all fits, although to a certain point.

As I have really problems with accepting the only mean is to give the orb to Cory, as he is when we meet him. Besides, when would he have the occasion to give him the orb once Cory is darkspawn already? In the Fade? "Hey man, let's play basketball, catch!"? :D

This is why I assume it happened after the events of DA 2.

I think I heard people saying they thought Merrill woke him up when messing with the eluvian or something? Do we know anything about that at all?

Either way, for some reason I got the idea he woke up recently.

Someone pointed out this codex entry: http://dragonage.wik...gent_Compendium

-Two shadowed spheres among stars subtitled "aboofqp iboxE'kbC px bpmfizb kX" = "An eclipse as Fen'Harel stirred"

It can be found in the black emporium in Act 3 of DA2. People assumed he woke up by then :)

Ooh, neat :) So there we go.

I guess it just comes down to how badass people think Solas can be. Though I still don't think there's much ruthlessness required to dick over Cornflakes. Dude radiates evil arrogance.

Hey, I'm looking for links to where I can read up on all the history and pantheons of Thedas, preferably in some kind of logical order. I'm way behind on all this stuff and I get totally lost in these convos. Any suggestions? Or a compilation of codex entries?

The Dragon Age wiki is your best bet.  It has elven history and most of the codex entries.

Precisely this. For me one of the principle mainstays of Solas' personality is respect for the right of free will that all rational self-aware beings have.  This has two sides to it, on the one hand, I won't stop you from doing what you will, on the other, I won't stop you from doing what you will even if I happen to know that it will be harmful to you...

If I like you, I might attempt to dissuade you, if I don't like you, I won't, I might even encourage you to go ahead.

But at the end of the day *graceful shrug of shoulders* it is your choice and I will not be held responsible for it.

No the normal Battlemage Mail (which is the one I use) doesn't have feet but the sturdy stuff does, so I never use that...eurgh! I use Cotton, Everknit Wool and Rough Hide so that it looks exactly like his pre release artwork stuff, and then it just looks like he bunged the coat on over his Skyhold outfit which I like.  It means his AR is only ever 152, but I have it generate guard to make up for it lol.

Yeah, I find a chest in Emprise and do the reloading thing... sometimes I cry while I'm doing it.

The best farming spot is Villa Muarel in the Emerald Graves.  The chest in the runed key locked room usually has one or two tier 3 schematics.  Plus it has an AoP for Viv and she's OP just by standing still.

That is pretty ruthless though, isn't it? Would our good hearted Solas do it by purpose? ;)

I tend to think there is something more background on this, maybe some collaboration in the past...? I don't know, again just speculating, but... do you think Fen'Harel could have helped the magisters in the fall of Arlathan (and this could be the moment the big "lock out" could take place) and this is how the orb got into Cory's hands?

Thoughts, ideas, theories?

Thousand ideas on that. Care to scroll back about a thousand pages to read them? ;)

However, Corypheus does not seem to recognize Solas. And I personally consider Solas to be too smart and thoughtful to just give such immense power to some suspicious looking guy on high heels to simply buy the "It will surely kill him" theory.

Well, that brings again the big question: when Solas could have given the Orb to Cory?

I tend to think they could have been working together on something in the past and Solas could see in Cory an idealist he once (still?) was and this is the reason why he could believed in his good intentions. After all PradaCory is being references in PW interview as a person terribly disappointed in his faith, someone who Leliana could become if she would loose her faith in the good Maker. In general, I don't think Cory ever needed to lie to Solas, I think it was again a good will turning into mediocre results, which seems to be a repetitive motive in this personage history (no wonder he becomes "grim and fatalistic", lol).

As for the orb (spoiler for size, as I allowed myself to flow)

Spoiler

Haha, yeah ;)

I appreciate this is why I asked the question, even if I am reading this thread since few weeks already (though decided to start posting few days ago), as I am hungry on fan theories on this game. Given it has 2-8 pages per day I simply gave up on getting all the previous theories I could have missed.

Really? I could have sworn you were here yesterday. Did you miss the wardens strengthening the old god theory? Have that all summed up in one post and saved.

I fully agree with the Colonel that Solas is badass and ruthless as he sees fit. I believe he might have given the orb to Cory without hesitation even knowing that it would kill a few hundred (thousand?) people at the Conclave, destroy all of humanity, and exterminate the last unicorn. However, I believe he had some really convincing reason and this "Hmmm... Cory surely dies in the attempt, so that's two birds with one stone"-theory does not sit well with me. It's just too... simple? Even I would not make a decision like that based on so vague a suspicion, so how would he? I'm not willing to give my phone away, surely I would not simply hand over an artifact of immense power (assuming I had one). I suppose any half decent person would consider different possible outcomes of his actions and come up with a plan B, C, and possibly D. If Solas really gave Cory the orb simply hoping it would kill him, he must have stopped planning half way through A, as he doesn't have a clue about how to solve that mess.

Ah right, I forgot about all the people that died... I can see Solas letting him die, but who knows if he'd be so absent minded as to not think of who else would die as well. Or ruthless enough not to care.

Not saying I don't think he would, just that I don't know. It's possible though, if he thought it would be for the best in the long run.
