Solas is too delicious to be the favorite flavor for just a mere month. I mean, it's been over a month since my first romance playthrough and I still don't think I'm over it yet.
Mmmmm. 100% accurate.
Consider: Solas's chess game with IB was one of the most telling things about his nature. He needlessly moved a pawn and then told IB to THINK ABOUT IT. Naturally, IB focused on the pawn and what Solas could possibly be doing with it which cost him the game.
Misdirection is one of the oldest tricks in the book. It was incredibly desceptive, but also it was completely fair. At least IMO.
As a side note, that chess game is one of the things that pretty much solidified the idea that Solas was the only one for my Lavellan.
Actually it kind of seemed like Iron Bull dismissed the pawn. He was like pfft you're moving a pawn while I'm doing all this other stuff? Whatever, dude. And then at the end he's like too bad you wasted your time moving that pa-oh crap.
But yes, I definitely think the chess game is pretty telling about Solas. He'll sacrifice just about anyone to win the game.
So I just popped in to see what the thread had been up to this weekend. Apparently, Solas is flavor of the month? Does he get a trophy for that? LOL. Didn't the guy that made that thread make a thread about how terrible people who chose the old god ritual with Morrigan were cowards and terrible people a while back, too? Yeah, I can't really bring myself to care. ^^;
Oh, those Solas egg drawings are fabulous.
Also, I only recently figured out how to take screenshots with my PS4, and I have been going crazy with the screenshots for my different playthroughs. I, unfortunately, only had a save before the final romance scene of my first character, but I'm gonna make saves before all the major Solas related cutscenes in my 2nd Solas romancing Lavellan so that I can go back and amuse myself by taking screenshots. XD I've mostly been playing my two male Lavellans lately, one going to romance Cass and maybe Josie for the other, so most of my screenshots are for them. I did still have saves for a few of the Cullen romance scenes from my 2nd Lavellan, so I played around with those for a while.
Came across a gif on Tumblr. That I have no clue where it comes from / what part of the game they are from..but then again my first playthrough I was a dunce and zoomed through the main story line and finished before level 20. This time around trying to punish myself and not go through all the main storyline all at once and drag Solas around with me to -every- zone, quest, achievement, etc. Kind of his punishment for what he ends up doing and was wondering if any of you lovely people know what quest/zone this is from?
Google search turned up nada. >.<
I know what quest it is but I forgot the name. Basically the mother is ill and only the son knows the recipe. So the father asked you to goto his son for the recipe. The son is with this andraste cult in Winterwatch Tower of hinderlands.
It's Shallow Breaths, in the Hinterlands. You get the quest from a refugee in the crossroads. If you're an elf, you can convince Hindle on your own, but get no approval from Solas. Have Solas do it, you get approval

I never got the chess match because I never took Bull anywhere, but I've heard the party banter from Youtube.
I actually think the last round says so much about Solas' character, my head was reeling the first time I heard it.
Subtle foreshadowing that Solas is willing to sacrifice everything to obtain his goal, including his relationship with Lavellan (his real-life queen).
(EDIT: In fact, come to think of it, he probably ended the relationship because he didn't want to ever be in a situation where he would have to sacrifice her or have to choose between her and his end goal. I imagine ending the relationship was like him taking her out of the game, the way one removes a chess piece before it can get killed by another.)
Sorry to make this depressing if I did, but I just observed that after hearing it.
dear sweet andraste. they deserve sainthood.

- Iron Bull: All right, Solas. I've thought about it. Ready to finish this? Ben-Hassrath to A6.
- Solas: Knight takes Pawn at G7. Check.
- Iron Bull: Uh-huh. King to D8.
- Solas: Queen to F6, Check.
- Iron Bull: And now my Ben-Hassrath takes your Queen.
- Iron Bull: You've got no Towers. You're down to a single Mage. Too bad you wasted time moving that Pawn to... to...
- Iron Bull: You sneaky son of a ******.
- Solas: Mage to E7. Checkmate.
- Iron Bull: (Grunts.). Nice game, mage.
- Solas: And you as well, Tal-Vashoth.

In Andrastian terms, would that be 'They deserve Annointing' or that 'They deserve Annointment,'? Or something else?

Thans for the replies for the gif, it explains why I didnt get that part. I think I had my Lavellan handle it on her own.
Oh lord, too many folds on the chef hat..
and I so hate that last part with Cole.
Just for the reason - I dont like "someone that I ONCE cared for" just like the same reason why I dislike the ending with Solas where he says "what we HAD was real."
My Lavellan would be all..STOP USING PAST TENSE! I ain't quitin' you! <insert Night at the Museum gif that I cant find of the tiny cowboy and the roman> and proceed to go off until she was stopped.
Also, writers stop using past tense and making me sadder than the situation already makes me. -.-
And holy crap that is good foreshadowing on the chess match part. I have yet to take out anyone in the party aside from Cass, Cole and Solas. I'm gonna attempt to make playthroughs that use all combos with Solas in the party.
Cullenmance playthrough will prolly be Solas, IB and Dorian. Tho I feel bad cause I love Cole and Solas together.
Even Solas and Cass are fantastic together.
Well regardless, my Lav was a little disappointed that he never asked her to play. I mean she played Cullen and didn't seem to have too difficult a time beating him. She wanted to play against someone she knew she couldn't beat. Of course, there was always that slight chance he would let her win, but he doesn't seem the type. Too much of a teacher. He wouldn't be teaching her anything if he let her win.Actually it kind of seemed like Iron Bull dismissed the pawn. He was like pfft you're moving a pawn while I'm doing all this other stuff? Hm?
I, for one, am looking forward to this tragedy if the foreshadowing becomes true.
Seriously. Whether it turns out tragically or dramatically where we can earn our happy ending, I hope they take advantage of all the feels they can invoke with that potential confrontation.
(Not like with Alistair this game, where they wasted ample opportunity for him to meet his mom, and probably his son if you had him perform the ritual with Morrigan in DAO. If I'd known I had to complete the main story quests in a specific order so he and Morrigan were in the castle together at the same time and their meeting had to be a random encounter...)
I'd sooner say Lavellan is the pawn and Mythal the Queen. While I love my inquisitor, to say she even began to rival Mythal in both power, influence, and importance to the chess game of Thedas feels inaccurate. If she were, that would be a terrible case of the protagonist overshadowing the setting and its history. Moreover, her position as a pawn feels accurate - she was a nobody. A non-entity. It's only her moves on the board that make her a powerful piece on the board.
So while in the thousands of years scheme of things, Lavellan is a pawn, a piece limited in both power and movement, Solas took his time to make sure to move it to where it needed to be. Others, similar to Iron Bull, would have abandoned or disregarded it in favor of a stronger entity. Regardless, Solas (who takes the role of the mage piece) is enabled by Lavellan's (or the pawn's) position of power on the board to accomplish his grand coup détat.
In a way thats worse IMO only because that means Lavellan isnt that special, just another pawn albeit a pretty and distracting one lol
I have a giant folder just dedicated to Solas fan art/screenshots/gifs...and I am in the progress of making my own...but honestly this can't be healthy.
Why isn't he reaaaaaaaaaal.

What I've always liked about pawns is if you get them to the other side of the board they can become a queen (or anything really but pawn to queen sounds better).
