That's fine news. But "the development team is actively looking for a way to allow players to alter their character’s appearance"? Is that supposed to be a joke? Actively looking for a way? They have the functions, it's all there, and they did it before. All they have to do implement a function call, it's not like there was magic at work. This just sounds ridiculous.
With how stellar their patches have gone thus far, I'm not surprised.
I have lurked enough it is time for my to head off to class and I will be updating my crackpot theory later and posting...

Well they probably said it like that, because they wanted to sound fancy and all!

"We're really like... uh... we have a team of 20 senior developers on it. Those guys are really good, you know, some came to us from like Ubisoft and... errm... those guys do some serious programming. So, anyway, they are at it, right this moment actually they are... like... really going into details as to how, you know, get that function call, which happens automatically after starting up a new game, only this time, you know... uh.. this time we want it to happen from inside the game, you know. Like... triggered by another function call. A series of events, so to speak. Well, I don't want to get all technical now. It's just that... uh... the player clicks something and it somehow starts the character creator. That's some serious stuff there, so we really... you know... go out of our way to get that all wrapped up and delivered to the user in like... well, I can't promise anything but surely... errm... like... maybe we can call the guys from the dev department? ... No? Ah, I see, they're busy looking into this problem... well, I am not involved in the process but I guess... like... before the end of next year, I guess, like... maybe."

Ugh, I agree. I was so underwhelmed by her character, after being so excited at the prospect of meeting her. I was like, this is the woman Varric has been pining over for a decade and a half? Despite the fact that she's married? I felt like all those characters in Arrested Development... "Her?"
He's not pining over her. He's dating her. Sort of.

Sounds more like an occasional booty call that he wishes was more.
Oh. I didn't mean it like that. I think it's nice bioware is realizing that people can have meaningful relationships outside of a romantic one. It's normal. It makes the story richer. Unless you were joking in which case...Internet???
I was joking ![]()

I feel like he is her booty call. Seeing that he can only see her when she sees fit.

This makes me sad.

If you talk to him after the quest you can ask how long they've been together and he does say it's been 15 years, implying they still see themselves as a couple. It's not their fault that Bianca's family try to kill Varric if he goes near her.
It appears I have a habit of liking unpopular characters - Fiona, Carver and now Bianca.

It's not a function call. We have modded ways to change hair, eyes, lips, etc but it is hard. I imagine all the encrypting and bitshifting on frostbyte is making it hard for Bioware as well

Love Fiona. Will never love Bianca. She should at least have the decency to let him move on knowing that'll never be anything more. I understand why she doesn't but its still rather crummy for Varric.

I love Carver! I see him and Isabella could be a very awkward, disfunctional, but cute couple.
That's just my weird view though....
This one, this one is awesome, lol.

That is unfair to Varric. You're implying he's too lovestruck or stupid to realise his situation. He knows his and Bianca's situations. He's knows the best he's got with the woman he loves is that they write to each other and meet up whenever they can. She was forced by her family to marry her husband (and it took them two attempts to get her to go through with it) and would clearly rather be with Varric. But she can't.

But they have the creator, it's finished and working already. And they provided it for DA2 already.
Modding is a bit different because you don't have direct access (or so I assume and would be surprised to hear if they opened their code to modders).
Just so no one's confused, that article refers to patch 3 which already came out.Btw. It looks like we will get a facial character appearance changer like in DA2!

I've been kind of focused on Lavellan's reaction to learning who he is, but you're right, the companion reactions would be very interesting to see. Not just learning who he is but his role in creating the Breach. I actually think Cassandra and Varric could react the most negatively. They were with him even before the Inquisitor, so his deception goes back further with them. Varric is so sensitive to the suffering of the common people, and for Cassandra it would no doubt bring back the memories of all the people she lost at the Conclave. I think the most understanding would be Dorian. He might even fanboy a little over Tevinter not having destroyed all of elven culture, and would be fascinated by what happened from a magical/ scientific point of view.Agreed. I hope the writers do that friendship justice in the upcoming dlc or game. Her reaction could be very poignant and heartbreaking. I really enjoyed watching them bond.

No, I just think he's too lovestruck to care.

Aww, I like Carver. He's my darling grumpy baby bro.
(Well, Hawke's grumpy baby bro, but you know what I mean.
)
For Fiona and Bianca I'm just indifferent (though I do pity Fiona in a way).

I don't think so. The game offers us Dagna who, if we knew fer from DA:O plays totally va banque, escapes from her traditional father even if her heart hurts and risks everything to study magic, something completely "undwarfy". So... possible? Possible.
Bianca from her side is "papa, don't preach" and oh, so self dependent and smart, but anyway she does not have the guts to stand by Varric. Pinax slightly disapproves.
