Hi guys, recently finished DA:I and when ME3 finished I spent a great few months on the Garrus thread in the Character/Romance forums on the old Bioware Social threads before they got locked, and I fully intend to do the same here. *gets comfortable*

 

Firstly, congratulations on over 2500 pages! That's a lot of fandom! I'm really pleased to see it.

 

When I first started playing DA:I I didn't really like Solas, he seemed a big up his own backside for my liking, but when I saw the first Romance option and took it, I was like, "Damn, Solas, you smooth! Let's see where this goes," and he really grew on me. He's rivalling Garrus in a lot of ways for my favourite companion now! Although, King Cole the Dragon Slayer is really close too.

 

Now, sadly I managed to lose my save right before starting the Orleasian Ball, but I watched my partner play through the rest (he's not a fan of Solas, sadly), and devoured the Wiki entry on Solas, so I know what to expect from my Lavellan's relationship, but I do have a few questions both plot and romance related:

• Is Solas Fen'Harel, or is he Fen'Harel in the same way Flemeth is Mythal?
• Was there some sort of past between Solas and Mythal? From what I gathered Mythal was killed and shortly after Fen'Harel rebelled and locked the rest of the Gods away. (This is just from memory though, I may be wrong). I know they refer to each other as old friends, but it's something I still wonder at.
• Is it confirmed if Solas took Flemeth/Mythal's powers, or vice versa in the form of possession?
• Do we know how long Solas was asleep for, and how long he was awake for prior to the Breach?
• Did he give Corypheus the Orb to help him open an Eluvian with the Gods in, and Corypheus was helping him, or did Corypheus trick Solas and used it for his own goals?
• Did the Orb belong to Solas originally, and if so does the Inquisitor now technically have Solas's power with the Orb's destruction, and how do we think he felt about losing his power to the Inquisitor?

 

• When are these mentioned in game: "Sera cracks a joke about what Solas must shout during sex; if you pick a certain dialogue option Solas says getting Lavellan into bed is an enjoyable side-benefit."? - Snipped from FAQ.
• Also when Sera, Cole, Vivienne comment on Solas/Lavellan's relationship, is it during party conversations? Is Cole's comment only after the breakup? And the Wikia doesn't mention Vivienne's comments (unless I missed it).
• When does Solas's tarot card change when you Romance him? (If it's after the breakup I might just throw something. xD)
• And lastly, what is your opinions on the best reaction to the breakup? I want my Lavellan to be saddened, to fight it at first, but not be angry with him. Also, do you choose to remove the Vallaslin or keep it? I think I know what it's origins are (basically a slave mark?) but I don't know yet if my Lavellan would keep it because it's a part of her face or she'd be horrified by it and want it gone.

The only answer that came to me right away was the Tarot card. It changes after your second romantic encounter? That's when I noticed it changed at least. If you choose the sad puppy/crying eye option when he breaks up with you. It will be sad but your lavellan won't be angry at him. She will try to pull at him to stay.

Not to twist the knife or anything but Solas looks pretty sad in that gif to me, lol. I bet a lot of lavellans did that after getting dumped the first time to feel better about it.

I can get rather angry, but not with something like this.

 

I'd feel too guilty afterwards personally to do that myself. I don't get people who got angry with Morrigan either. Or, I get it, I just wouldn't separate on bad terms like that.

1) We don't know. Weekes has been dodging the question.

2) It seems likely that Fen'harel and Mythal were allies in the glory days of Arlathan, and very good friends.

3) Dev notes linked in the opening page give us an idea of what happened. Namely, that Flemeth gave up her powers to Solas, and godhood to Morrigan. No possession, it would seem.

4) According to the same dev notes, he's been asleep for a thousand years. (Arlathan having fallen two thousand years before Inquisition.) This puts him smack dab in the middle of Andraste's rise and fall. Hence the Shartan tin foil hat theories. A Codex entry in DAII suggests he woke up 9:34-9:37 Dragon, with Inquisition starting in 9:41 Dragon.

5) We don't know. We have some hints Solas expected powering up the Orb to involve Corypheus blowing himself and only himself up. The Breach seems like it was a surprise to everyone. We have a lot of interesting theories on his goals, but no solid evidence yet.

6) The Orb is listed as Mythal's in game files, which raises all sorts of interesting questions. Regardless, it seems that the power is permanently attached to the Inquisitor, and Solas decided to make the best of a bad situation. The destruction of the Orb seems to have driven him to more desperate measures, namely the sacrifice of Mythal.

7) The first is when you ask Sera for her opinion on Solas in the usual 'what do you think of-?' dialogue, after you're deep into romancing him. The second is a line by Solas after...The Temple of Mythal, I believe? Someone else should answer that one.

8) Vivienne's comment is after you've romanced him, like with Sera's. Some of the banter is during the romance. Cassandra and Cole have post-breakup banter with Solas.

9) Solas's tarot card changes after he leaves for non Solavellans, and after break-up for Solavellans, I believe. It might also be only after the epilogue.

10) I'm still torn on this one myself.

I've romanced him twice, The tarot card for the romance does indeed change after he breaks up with you.

The banter with Sera and Solas happens after the second encounter I believe? Don't know how to trigger it, Cole's banter with Solas happens after the break up. Never had Vivenne mention it for me before. 

OR look at Caddius's reply! I don't know alot about the banters, as I could never trigger them besides the Cole break-up banter, and Sera's elfy-bits line.

 

He got Flemeth/Mythals power, It was mentioned in a Tooltip/devnote thing. 

Pretty sure Solas IS Fen'harel and not possessing a body, but others think he is, no confirmation on which one is right.

I think I know what it's origins are (basically a slave mark?) but I don't know yet if my Lavellan would keep it because it's a part of her face or she'd be horrified by it and want it gone. - Mine was angry but mostly really hurt.  My girl struggles with emotions beyond anger.  It's easier.  I kept the Vallaslin - the meaning changed over time.  My girl is 28 or so, she's had it for over a decade.  They are part of who she is.  She's not super proud Dalish but she still honors parts of the culture and is proud to identify herself as one.  She believes Solas and she knows he meant well and she's happy he told her.  She'll try to share the knowledge.  Her people deserve teh right to choose.

Welcome to the thread.  Sorry if I've been ninja'd with these questions but I love answering stuff.

 

1) It's not confirmed.  Personally, I think he's Fen'Harel, not Fen'Harel's soul.  He's an ancient elf who was worshipped as a god and now goes by the name Solas.  No body jumping involved.

2) They seem to be friends.  There's a theory they were lovers, but I'm not sure I buy it.  Like Leliana says 'love is common'.

3) The dev notes state he took some of her power.

4) He likely woke up at the same time as Legacy takes place.  He was asleep for 1000+ years.

5) He gave the orb to Cornflakes, or left it for him to find.

6) Maybe DLC will tell us!

 

7) Ask Sera what she thinks of Solas after the balcony kiss for one, and pick the middle option (something about a good luck kiss) right before he takes on the date for the other.

8) Sera and Viv need to be asked at Skyhold.  Cole will have banter which changes slightly depending on your choice.

9) It's right after the breakup.  Sorry.

10) I went for 'sad' then 'really sad'.  It worked for my Lavellan. She also chose to keep the vallaslin.  They're part of her and part of her culture - no matter what they meant in the past.

I feel like I just created the most miserable Lavellan in the history of ever. My first Lavellan looked childish, my second one like a tough warrior...and this one is a friendly little technician archer named Ethassan ("safe arrow") who always loves to plan things and test stuff. Yet she looks like she could start crying at any given moment. Welp, girl will have a very rough time, that's for sure! A nightmare run where Solas(s) is our ever-loving Lavellan-ditching egghead. Oh, throw in some casual moments with the Bull, too, and you've got it rough, girl. Not to mention my lovely headcanon of someone trying to crack her skull in two a few years ago!

 

That being said, I still admire the fact that the character creator offers so much variety! Not a single one of my Lavellans looks remotely close to another. Who's with me?

I've seen the video of her dumping him during that scene and it's heartbreaking, he looks devastated, and when you consider that at that point he wasn't planning to dump her...that just makes it...too many feels. Could never do it myself never never never.

i tried. tried so hard for science but like i could NEVER do that after seeing the video.  he even sounds like he's about to cry.  cullen's is just as bad though.  if - before you sleep together - you tell him that you just want to be friends. OOOFFFF.

Garrus and Solas are currently duking it out for position of my favorite character as well.

 

For me Garrus is still winning, but a lot of that is because Garrus doesn't DUMP my PC.  *glares at Solas*

 

Then again, I think even Solas would think twice about dumping someone as badass and prone to causing explosions as Shepard.
