The first time I got the romance banter with Sera and Solas, it was after Solas had broken up with my Lavellan. He called her "vhenan" again and it made me really sad. :(

(On my Nightmare/PS4 playthrough, I got it in Crestwood. Much better timing.)

Ooh... I just did the break up (cause there was nothing else left to do). So sad.
I don't like Sera but I'm gonna try to put her in the party and move around in the hope to hear this..
Do you only need Sera and Solas for it or also Cole?

Heeey late-night Solas thread. There's a "Dirty Thedas" edition of CAH if anyone is interested.

Do they have characters on all the cards or just the face cards?

Quick question - how widespread is literacy in Thedas?

Asunder seems to suggest that it isn't all that common among the basic population, but sometimes the games makes it feel otherwise.

I'm going to be completely honest. I hate Solas. I like his romance, but I hate him. He's too hypocritical and high-and-mighty for my liking. Mainly the prior.

I romanced him because my playthrough had happy endings for Hawke and my Warden, and I wanted my Inquisitor to have the grimmest ending possible. Drank from the Well, romanced Solas. Mwahahaha. I is evil.

No worries.  I'm a Solas fan but I still think he's kind of a d-bag at the same time.

Quick question - how widespread is literacy in Thedas?

It probably depends on where in Thedas. I'd imagine the Qunari are very literate because of their culture/education system, whereas in  Ferelden - where there is no formal, universal education system - literacy is probably isolated to nobles and the upper common classes (e.g. merchants and tradespeople). The casteless dwarves are probably largely illiterate, but the others may have some sort of education. We don't really know enough about Orlais/Antiva/Tevinter to say either way, except that in the latter slaves are illiterate for obvious reasons.

Quick question - how widespread is literacy in Thedas?

I believe the printing press is available and literacy is at a much higher rate than in our world's own Middle Ages. Probably even higher than most of the Early Modern Period.

My two pieces of evidence are the many, many copies of Varric's books across Thedas, the abundance of books in general, and how Fenris being illiterate is treated as a big deal. :)

EDIT: As others have ninjaed, yeah, it definitely varies by region. I imagine part of the allure of the Chant being sung is that it doesn't require reading and scrutinizing by the population. I'd bet on Orlais, Tevinter, and Qunandar being the most literate places, with Ferelden and the Anderfels as the least.

I took a step into the derided 'Solas Flavor of the Month?' thread to see how bad it was. (I'm morbidly curious.) I got the Colonel cheerfully Coloneling up the place and Oxie making me cough out my drink.

OXCIDANTSHAPPEN:"Solas' flavor of the month" and "Solas' penis" are not necessarily mutually exclusive topics.

My purpose in life is complete.

Yeah I was trying to figure out how literate the Dalish were - if it was something reserved for the keepers and firsts considering how dependent their culture is on oral tradition. If not, totally going to head canon it.

It seems like the Ralaferin clan writes down their practices. Theirs the songbook in Origins. Velanna is literate. Hmm.

If I was the Dalish, if there is one thing I'd put a priority on, it's making everyone literate and writing down all of the collected elven lore, and making safe caches and exchanging data with the other clans at Arlathvhens. The Tevinter treatment of the elves and obliteration of their culture brings to mind the druids of Gaul and Britain, and the Roman response.

Binding up your religious and historical legacy, as well as a lot of political power, into a group of highly noticeable priests, without it being written down anywhere, can backfire horrifically.

I like to think the Dalish would be paranoid about it happening again and would strive to be literate as possible, they just don't have the resources or space for a lot of books. Interesting question, though.

Hah, I can relate as well. Oh, Fenris. Though I think Atton takes the cake for just being a completely broken human being. Really, compared to Atton I think any LI looks good in the "emotional health" department. I sure know how to pick 'em.

There was this one brilliant LP that went through all the niggling backstory details and brilliant storytelling going on in KotOR 2, as well as all the cut content.

His comment on Atton's first dialogue about his past went something along the lines of, "You ever have that awkward, weird friend that you kinda like but you also don't think that highly of? And one day, when you and your friends are joking with each other, you make fun of him, and all of a sudden a switch gets turned and that shy awkward guy becomes the most terrifying person you've ever met and snarls at you and you're all just sitting there going, "Holy ****, what just happened?"

Atton is that guy."

  I don't judge Loghain that harshly for being screwed up because Atton was my bestie back in the day.

Hahahaha, yeaaaah. I still adore Atton, for all that he's incredibly screwed-up. The guy's just so damn likeable, and I have a soft spot for characters who are so obviously devoted to the character I'm playing as. No matter what you do, Atton loves you. Whether you're a puppy-kicking monster or a complete goody-two-shoes. Which...also demonstrates just how messed up he is, now that I think about it.

"I loved her so I had to kill her" wasn't disturbing or anything, oh no...

I miss Atton   :crying: .  I was taken from the moment he was perving out on my half-naked Exile. Ha  :P

"I found some clothes"

"Dammit!"

I miss him too. He was such a breath of fresh air in that first level. The only one around who it seemed like you could trust.

A while back I downloaded an insane number of mods for KOTOR 2. Mostly appearance stuff. And the game looks gorgeous with just a bit of polish. It's still receiving mod support too, even after all this time. Someone released an HD texture mod for Atton not too long ago.

Spoiler

Sonovabitch looks good.   I mean, there's only so much you can do with a ten-year-old game, but it holds up well. Blah, now I want to play KOTOR 2 again.

You should! Especially for the restored content at the end. Do you know what they put back in? The stuff concerning Atton is amazing.

I originally played on a console, so I know what you mean, but I got used to them. It helps that it's easy to do pause 'n play during fights.

And ahhh, Nar Shaddaa. My favourite world, but also the most frustrating.

I like to think the Dalish would be paranoid about it happening again and would strive to be literate as possible, they just don't have the resources or space for a lot of books. Interesting question, though.

The Warden, if Dalish, seems to be able to read... whatever language most people speak (does it have a name that we know of?), although their conversation with Tamlen suggests that neither of them can read ancient elven writing. Merrill also mentions that as the First she studied more and different things than her peers in the clan. Based on that I'd guess there just aren't enough resources and time for your average Dalish hunter to learn all the lore that a Keeper would know.

There's also the tradition of Keepers being mages - a large amount of the knowledge the Dalish preserve seems to either be about magic or involve actual magical practice. And it's been established that having more than a couple of mages in a clan is dangerous, so that adds another complication...

Plus, various things said by Solas, Minaeve, the Inquisitor, and other characters indicate that at least some of the Dalish are more focused on survival and sticking it to humans than on actually rebuilding their lost civilization. Which is something you would probably expect to happen to a group after spending so long hiding out in the wilderness, worrying about where the food is coming from and whether they're going to get attacked,

Gorgeous! I did rather like that head. For my original playthrough, though, (on my 360) I used the one with the brown ponytail.

Spoiler

Middle of the second-last row.

My absolute favourite, though, is a modded head that I found years ago. It's a reskin of the one on the second-last row, farthest to the right. It gives her red hair, freckles, green eyes, and tones down the makeup. It's gorgeous, and really expressive.

Spoiler

I don't think I could play without mods anymore. There's another one that changes the dancer's outfit so it doesn't mysteriously give you a wasp waist as soon as you put it on.
