There are so, so many reasons for her to feel that she absolutely cannot let him know. And why his unintentional unveiling of it in a moment hurts so deep.
*Hugs* I think it would hurt him as much as it hurt her. That she felt that she couldn't trust him. That he would judge her for it. He would feel terrible because he knows he gave her cause to think that. He would gently try to help her to learn. I know he would. I think he would let he keep up the charade as much as possible to save a shred of her pride. *SOBBING*
Meanwhile, all this talk about elven literacy is just reminding me that Fenris wouldn't have been able to read that letter from Varric if Hawke hadn't taught him to read. *weeps eternally*
My Hawke is dead. Fenris weeps eternally.
NOOOOOOO WHHHHHHYYY
...no tarot cards for Suketchi and NightSymphony T_T
*sniffles* yeah..I found some on E-Bay for hundreds of dollars.

You gotta ebay them from people who bought the Inquisitor Edition and broke down their chest. That's what I did. It's a painful blow to your wallet, but I regret nothing. The cards are beautiful.
You might have to find someone willing to part with it that has the Collectors Edition. I don't believe those are for sale separately. But if you're curious - it has every character card/version and then a lot of the codex ones. It's a full tarot deck.
lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again: all I need is some angry make up sex and I'm golden.
I second this. A lot. ![]()
Here's a Happy Headcanon in light of the http://www.dragonage...-songs-giveaway and that "Once We Were" is the prettiest song ever.(And that I made Lizasaurus cycle through crying Dean gifs in her grief)
So my Lavellan and Solas didn't dance at the ball. She was NOT pleased by the whole situation. So they got back from Orlais and were prepping for Adamant. Hawke is there and Alistair is there. The whole gang is there and is in high spirits.
So there was a rare GOOD day at Skyhold. You know... one of those pleasant and peaceful days where you just sigh before you go to sleep and say "this was a good day". The weather was nice. Alistair had just gotten a letter form the Warden and he was beaming. Hawke and Varric were reminiscing and smart-mouthing to anyone and everyone but in this good-natured way. Solas actually joined everyone in the tavern - it was a rare treat. Everyone was drinking and talking. It was just a good evening. So by the end of the night - the tavern has pretty much emptied out save for The Gang. Lavellan and Solas were pleasantly drunk and Maryden starts to play that song and Lavellan starts to close her eyes and hum along. She stops when she hears Solas clear his throat behind her. She turns around and sees him holding his hand out and he asks her to dance. They do. It is their happiest memory and Lavellan is sure in that moment that she loves him and tells him so. It's the first time she does. He etches that memory into his very heart. It's one of the few indulgences of her memory that he allows himself after he's left.
*sniffles* yeah..I found some on E-Bay for hundreds of dollars.
...Hundreds of... *sobs*

Quotes from World of Thedas V1 on the subject of LYRIUM (I will likely use at some point):
"blue-green crystal [...] Once refined - that is, dissolved in a liquid or heated until it crumbles into a fine powder - lyrium is safe for all to use."
"If living beings are exposed to lyrium in its raw form, it will slowly drive them mad. It can also cause physical calamities, such as deafness, memory loss, and nausea."
> Can anyone compare this to a real-life substance? Is this like mercury?
"In its raw form, lyrium emits a strangely soothing sound that some call the voice of the Maker. The Chantry claims the mineral is a remnant from the birth of the world, when the Maker created the land and skies. They believe lyrium is not so much the essence of magic as the essence of all creation."
"Lyrium's appearance in the Fade suggests it somehow bridges the gap between the dreamer's world and the waking world of Thedas."
"The templar mage hunters of the Chantry engage in a ritual involving lyrium that grants them the ability to dispel and resist magic."
> This quote clarifies that lyrium itself does not give templars magic resistance. Rather, it is the ritual involving lyrium which achieves this. It un-complicates the properties of lyrium to simply strengthening magic power/replenishing mana.
"Dwarves have long used lyrium to create enchanted items, most often weapons and armour. Without lyrium, enchantments placed on items are inevitably temporary."
"Lyrium is a potent mana booster".... "mana is a measurement of one's ability to draw power from the fade,"... "a mage draws upon a personal reservoir of mana to cast all spells"....
> How I am understanding this is: a mage has "form" carved into the fade, in the sense that there is a reservoir of mana specifically for them. As the reservoir depletes, the ability to draw from the fade weakens. Lyrium replenishes this ability. So... carving an enchantment with lyrium carves an ability to draw from the fade into an object. Gives the object a personal fade reservoir. Gives it "spirit". Right?

BTW: Welcome back Squish
WE MISSED YOU.
I love your brain, as always! Your theories are great! From my understanding, lyrium doesn't even come close to paralleling any single substance that exists in our world. Which is expected, because magic- BUT I will try to answer your first question as best I can! I'll put it under a spoiler tag though. Because there's a lot of words.
But because you're an awesome person I figured I'd at least try to explain it somehow! It's like probably 99.9% wrong, but a wrong theory is better than no theory at all! Besides, what else do I have to do at 2 AM besides look crazy on a forum?
I've been kind of sitting back and just absorbing everyone else's fascinating conversations (I really wish I had something worthwhile to add), but some of your lovely headcanons made me sniffle so much it felt odd just to lurk. Cry once a week in this thread, no joke ;_;

And now you've also fixed my headcanon of whether they hit the sheets or not. They do. And it's the most desperately sad and passionate moment of intimacy EVER. And here I was hoping for a tipsy, breathless, awestruck Halamshiral discovery of each other. THANKS FOR THAT.
This is always better, non?
I've been wanting to get my hands on some tarot cards, but I have no idea where to get them T_T Are they for sale on the Bioware site? Or do you have to get them somewhere else?
I haven't seen the tarot cards for sale in the BW store but I just ordered the DA:I playing card deck. Closest thing I could find.
I'll contribute a happy, silly headcanon before going back to smut
There are plenty of sad, beautiful headcanons already.
Lavellan occasionally teases Solas about being the Dread Wolf once they've reunited and repaired their relationship. It starts out as an offhanded comment or two--his fondness for the wolves in the Hinterlands, whether he dislikes mabari, that sort of thing. For the most part, Solas simply wrinkles his nose a little and endures the teasing. But one day she makes off with the jawbone necklace, leading him on a merry chase across Skyhold, shouting "Got your nose, Dread Wolf!" She is light and effortless on her feet, and he's pretty sure he's too old for this sh*t.
When he finally corners her in the Chantry; she is breathless with laughter and exertion, and the beauty of her joy overrides any exasperation. Instead of taking the necklace back, Solas gently places it around her neck and presses it against her heart. "It is yours, vhenan," he says with a smile. "As am I."

I don't suppose they've got a Solas card in there? I might have to get myself a deck. *HOPE RENEWED*

Interesting. What are Chasind statues doing in the Frostbacks? That's Avvar territory.
The warrior-women remind me of the Morrigan. Both in Celtic Mythology, which I'm sadly not that familiar with, and the one in the Tyrdda Bright-Axe Saga.
The mention of the citizens ready to kill any Chasind who flee from battle is reminiscent of tales you hear about various 'barbarian' groups. During the Cimbri Wars, wherein three massive hordes of Germanic peoples began to migrate throughout France and Italy, terrifying the Gauls and Romans in equal measure and setting off a chain of events that would lead to the Republic becoming the Empire (really long story
), the Romans were aghast at the German women. They would wait with their children on the edge of the battlefield with their wagons, holding long knives in their hands. If they spotted their husband running, they gutted him. There's accounts of these women also shivving the shocked Romans to death or killing themselves and their children rather than be enslaved or shamed by defeat.
Boudicca's rebellion in Britain was also noted for having the non-combatants link up wagons on the edge of the battlefield, to shame any Britons who fled. Unfortunately for them, as the Romans quickly routed the Britons, they were all trapped against their own wagons and slaughtered en masse.
Where was I? Oh, right.
What's up with the Chasind statues in Skyhold?
And the mention of mother just naturally makes me think of Flemythal.
Leaving this here because I found it hilarious. Crazy premise: what if there were cell phones in Thedas? Post-game texts between Solas and Levellan might look sorta like this:
