It occurred to me while reading the thread on the Freemen that the mages in Solas' quest might be on their way to join Gordian in his mad quest. Why else would they be out there, and "the foremost expert on demons in the Kirkwall Circle." Not that they knew what was going on, maybe, but he could have been recruiting?
Also came across this codex on the Spiral Eye in DA2, which mentions the Watcher. Dirthamen helping a mage to protect those who keep his secrets?
That guy's a Half Life reference, lol.
Gordian, a "Freeman".
Gordon Freeman.
Anyway, it's possible. True or not, mages trying to summon demons, all the reason needed to let Solas go apeshit.
In addition to what has already been noted, we have an entry about the aravels that comes from the journal of a hunter, Taniel (so it isn't limited to Keepers or Firsts). Addai has also pointed out in the past that in "The Stolen Throne", it's mentioned that the Dalish speak elvish with one another in the clan, and that using the common tongue is something that's done when speaking with outsiders (which would explain Lavellan's use of elvish in conversations with Mihris and Solas); it's likely that the Dalish may write elvish, as opposed to the shemlen equivalent of the written language.
Let's not forget that the Dalish IQ was sent by her clan to gather intelligence on the conclave, there would be little point in sending someone along who was illiterate and had no knowledge of the common tongue, in fact one would expect the best intelligence officers to be literate in several languages and very aware of the social context in the nations they were acting in, as is, for example IB.
Having reached this point in my post I am suddenly asking myself, of the companions, who is not actually a spy or hasn't had some undercover/intelligence role in the past???

Woah, that's a tough one! Josie, maybe? She's mostly just royalty that keeps stuff under control. But then again, she's an advisor. If you think about it Quizzy just has a bunch of shady and powerful friends among her ranks.

I have been reading these forums for a while now. Lots of great theories!
I love liza's analysis of tyrdda's story, it got me thinking:
Tyrdda Bright-Axe Analysis
Stanza Five: The Burial of the Beast. Complete stanza below behind spoiler.
Spoiler
Lightning split the spitting rains,
Sundered over prideful heights,
Dragon fell in rubble down,
Crashed and crushed in earth's mad shaking.
Lightning splits the sky, sunders the Dragon from its prideful heights in the Sky, and is crashed/ crushed/ consumed in an Earthquake below. Tyrdda and her Divine Elven Lady Love 1, Dragon 0.
This part is interesting because we have a dragon seek out Tyrdda once she gets to a place the armies/ tribes of Thelm Gold-Handed can't reach. It's suspiciously as if a dragon was sent to destroy Tyrdda and her tribe for escaping Thelm's clutches. Which implies Thelm capable of controlling a dragon to do his bidding. And that dragon is now crushed in the earth below. I'll just leave that thought to marinate.
(2) Not related, but all three songs that I could find look like they're actually referring to dragons.)
3) Ever since my playthrough it got stuck in my head that tyrdda is connected to Flemeth. In fact I was almost certain it was the same person, either before the creation of Flemythal, the incident that created Flemythal or Flemythal herself (in which case the reference to Tyrdda being the lover of leaf-eared lady of the skies was a way to say they were two souls joined in one.)
4) Which leads to crazy theory: that could be a link to why the red lyrium idol looks so much like Flemythal.
Am I making any sense? I'm not very good at explaining myself..
Edit: The dwarven red lyrium idol. Which was worshiped by dwarves.

You.
I like you. Welcome to the Blanket Fort Thread.
Something was definitely going on with the Creators, Dragons, and Elvhen.
And Mythal being in a dwarven ruin as an idol would be explained by Mythal's choosing to romance Tyrdda in her playthrough. If the Imhar=Solas and Korth=Elgar'nan thing holds any weight, that would also help out with some of the theories as to what the damn idol represents.
Just wanted to tell you all, I have the Inq Ed, and was SO disappointed when it got here. 2 of 4 map markers were broken, the coins and the Inquisitor's symbol are cheap plastic, the "journal" is some smelly faux leather, as is the "case" for the "lockpicks," the "quill" isn't even a real feather, nor could it possibly be used to write with, the interior is (instead of silk-like cloth as they advertised) flocked plastic inserts...and the ONLY reason I didn't return it was the Tarot cards. Essentially, I paid $190 for a set of tarot cards and the game. Ok, the map is so-so, too.
So when you see the cards on Ebay for way too much money, it's because folks are trying to recoup the loss they took on the rest of the box set.
This was my experience too, really, really disappointed... A bit of a con. More fool me. Last special edition I am ever buying.
I've been wanting to get my hands on some tarot cards, but I have no idea where to get them T_T Are they for sale on the Bioware site? Or do you have to get them somewhere else?
They don't sell the Tarot cards yet, only Playing cards at the Bioware store.
Anyway, it's possible. True or not, mages trying to summon demons, all the reason needed to let Solas go apeshit.
I saw that, but that's pretty thin as easter eggs go, isn't it? I don't know anything about Halo though. Gordias the peasant who was declared king by just showing up seems a better fit for where the name comes from.
Thank you to Ajna, Missy_MI, Little Mama, Shari'El, madrar, phyreblade74, jellobell, Siha, drake2511, Giton, AutumnOracle, Elven_Glory, and Kryllian for the kind words after my last post. Held that in for a long time! But things are looking better now. Just after New Year's, my sister gave birth to a baby girl, and I have been spending as much time as I can over there helping care for her. Her baby smiles are mending my heart and giving me purpose again. Such is the circle of life.
So much to catch up on (congrats 2500 posts, Solas thread ) but want to update some thoughts on a previous theory regarding the symbol of the wolf:
Spoiler
This was in response to the wolf in the final, unfinished fresco. However, the more I think about it the more... appreciative I become of this idea of the wolf not being a single person, or even deity - but an idea shared by many, and later misinterpreted.
In Emerald Graves we see two types of wolf statues. One, the obedient, protective servant. The other, howling in rebellion. They are the same creature in two different states.
There is an Emerald Graves codex informing us of the wolves serving as companions to the Emerald Knights. We could interpret this in several ways:
1> actual wolves used practically for their combat skills
2> used practically and as a symbol of "loyalty in the service of noble elf" (treatment of companion-wolves and slaves/servants the same)
3> Not wolves at all, but a class of servant or slave bodyguards represented by the wolf symbol
4> actual wolves, with Ghilan'nain-approved spirits trapped in wolf bodies to enhance their intelligence/abilities (!)
2> or 3> sees the wolf symbol being used in it's two different states; one representing before rebellion, the other after.
Something else I must share, in relation to frescos and symbolism, is this passage from H.P. Lovecraft's The Nameless City, in which so much sounds eerily familiar (and I would be surprised if it had not been a source of inspiration for DA)!
Spoiler
Unfortunately all this conflicts with "The Four Faces of Solas" theory (sorry madrar!), but I am satisfied with the possibility of the "wolf" as an allegorical symbol for "the oppressed". And... I am *probably* alone in the wishing of Solas potentially being "just another guy". A survivor of an ancient rebellion, with extraordinary skills and a heavy burden to bear... but a normal, non-god guy all the same.
(@Caddius: The comparisons between Ancient Arlathan and Ancient Greece have me so excited that is my favourite subject *prepares to geek out* )
Anyway, catch up time!
This. More and more I think he was just a regular guy. You are not alone! I have also been swirling the idea of the wolves around and hadn't reached this point yet. I say brilliant, I was dancing around the idea. love!

Also, the Inquisitor can read the note that Felix gives them in Redcliffe, regardless of their race/class. So every Inquisitor can at least read that much.
I too could see the wolves of the emerald knights being more "symbolic" than literal wolves, ie. Slaves, servants, bodyguards? I'm not 100% on that theory but it would work, and makes sense considering all we know about Fen'harel maybe not being so trixy after all.
Solas would hate that.
I was playing through the Suledin Keep and Emerald Graves last night and do you realize how hard it must have been to keep his mouth shut when we were in some of these places that he's probably seen in their prime?
Can you imagine having seen Suledin keep when it was first built and then walking through thousands of years later and it's nothing but a ruin? How depressing.

The ultimate wistful old man experience. "Back in my day..."
I hope in the future, when our characters know that he's Fen'harel, we can actually ask him to reminisce and spill the beans.

I hope so! I want like 100000 hours of dialogue. Lol.
I have theories today, I hope you guys are feeling tinhatty.
As usual I get a few pages behind when returning to this thread...
I wonder if that last scene happened before Mythal had been with Kieran. As in, When Mythal spoke to the dread wolf she looked like she was pushing something into the eluvian, which could be part of her soul, so when Solas left, her soul crawled back to Flemeth's body releasing her from the petrification and going to find Kieran to fill up what's left of her power with the old god. She seemed to be travelling through eluvians like a boss and all the time, so maybe what Solas took was half of the power so she can have space for the old god (hmm this sounds dumb as ****, but I need to say it ._.) or maybe a dummy, again, not thinking straight and making Mythal even stronger for the reckoning.
Probably already answered, but its meeting Mythal in the fade with Kieran -> Fight with Cory -> Solas leaving and meeting up with Mythal.
But as I said before, I'm pretty sure Flemeth/Mythal isn't dead.
Shouldn't it be 'saving' the world?
That is after all what they are trying to do.
Hi guys, recently finished DA:I and when ME3 finished I spent a great few months on the Garrus thread in the Character/Romance forums on the old Bioware Social threads before they got locked, and I fully intend to do the same here. *gets comfortable*
Firstly, congratulations on over 2500 pages! That's a lot of fandom! I'm really pleased to see it.
When I first started playing DA:I I didn't really like Solas, he seemed a bit up his own backside for my liking, but when I saw the first Romance option and took it, I was like, "Damn, Solas, you smooth! Let's see where this goes," and he really grew on me. He's rivalling Garrus in a lot of ways for my favourite companion now! Although, King Cole the Dragon Slayer is really close too.
Now, sadly I managed to lose my save right before starting the Orleasian Ball, but I watched my partner play through the rest (he's not a fan of Solas, sadly), and devoured the Wiki entry on Solas, so I know what to expect from my Lavellan's relationship, but I do have a few questions both plot and romance related:
Spoiler
Is Solas Fen'Harel, or is he Fen'Harel in the same way Flemeth is Mythal?
Was there some sort of past between Solas and Mythal? From what I gathered Mythal was killed and shortly after Fen'Harel rebelled and locked the rest of the Gods away. (This is just from memory though, I may be wrong). I know they refer to each other as old friends, but it's something I still wonder at.
Is it confirmed if Solas took Flemeth/Mythal's powers, or vice versa in the form of possession?
Do we know how long Solas was asleep for, and how long he was awake for prior to the Breach?
Did he give Corypheus the Orb to help him open an Eluvian with the Gods in, and Corypheus was helping him, or did Corypheus trick Solas and used it for his own goals?
Did the Orb belong to Solas originally, and if so does the Inquisitor now technically have Solas's power with the Orb's destruction, and how do we think he felt about losing his power to the Inquisitor?
When are these mentioned in game: "Sera cracks a joke about what Solas must shout during sex; if you pick a certain dialogue option Solas says getting Lavellan into bed is an enjoyable side-benefit."? - Snipped from FAQ.
Also when Sera, Cole, Vivienne comment on Solas/Lavellan's relationship, is it during party conversations? Is Cole's comment only after the breakup? And the Wikia doesn't mention Vivienne's comments (unless I missed it).
When does Solas's tarot card change when you Romance him? (If it's after the breakup I might just throw something. xD)
And lastly, what is your opinions on the best reaction to the breakup? I want my Lavellan to be saddened, to fight it at first, but not be angry with him. Also, do you choose to remove the Vallaslin or keep it? I think I know what it's origins are (basically a slave mark?) but I don't know yet if my Lavellan would keep it because it's a part of her face or she'd be horrified by it and want it gone.
Sorry for the firing a mass of bullet points there, and I'm really sorry if this has already been discussed/answered, but 2500 pages is a lot to go through and I think I've asked questions the FAQ doesn't quite cover. If I haven't though, please feel free to redirect me to the FAQ.
Looking forward to spending time with you all! ^^
Text edit for spelling. Also, damn; I start writing this and the board gains 4 new pages. Faaaast!
Welcome to the thread and congratulation on finishing the game.
People already answered all the questions but I'll still give you my answers
Spoiler
Solas seem to be the actual Fen'Harel, and neither some kind of reincarnation or possesser/body-charer like Mythal.
They seem to have a long past. There has been lots of lively discussions on what their relations really is/was. Family, maybe, possibly lovers or some kind of servent or mentorship(?)
It's confirmed by the dev notes that Flemeth gives her power to the dread wolf, beacuse she know that if she doesn't he'll likely (try to) kill her for it anyhow.
No there's no known exact time, as far as I know at least. But its indicated that he woke up not that long ago. It's been ten years since Hawke killed Cory, it possible he woke up around the same time.
Nobody knows (but the devs) but their are plenty of speculations around it. Some say Solas gave it to Cory in hope that he'd unlock it and die in the process od doing so. If he knew what would happen at the conclave/the explosion killing so many is a wildly debated topic. I'm not sure what to believe myself. It's hard on the heart to picture him being so casual for other people's lifes but at the same time I think he'd do anything so succed with his mission.
Once again a heatedly dscused topic. For my own thoughts; I think it did belong to him and the power in it and that the IQ possess some of that power. Solas reaction to that likely depends on what type of person the IQ is, if he respect it or not, but in the beginning it must bother him a great deal to see him/her use it.
You can get Sera to crack the joke if you ask her about her thoughts about Solas after your relathionship is known (after the 2:d scen, the balcony) Solas uses the term side befits at two occasions. The first being when you flirt with him for the first time the second being the hearticon option before the breakup scene If I remember corectly.
During banter and if you ask them about him. Both Cass and Cole makes their 'vallaslin' and 'turned away' banter after the break up, depending if you removed the tattoos or not.
The card changes after the romance has been locked in.
It depends on you and on your Lavellan. If you want the most sentimental dialouge then you go with sad breakup and never get angry with him. But if you want more of a reaction you should get upset. My advice is to try both and chose the reaction you like best. Sad breakup gets the "we were real" line and angry "you had the right to be angry". It depends on what you prefer.
okay
no
but like
A "I love you, why'd u do this too me" Punch.
You can do exactly that if you get angry when he breaks up with you.
You don't get any "You have a rare and wonderful sprit. In another world.." talk but you get the chance to push him by the chest.
I just wish someone would mention something about your clan dying...especially Solas.
You killed your clan! You bastard! just kidding
i find it lacking too. You're entire 'family' has just been killed and no one makes one remark about it...
I'm heading to the Fade pretty soon.
UNLEASH THE THEORIES SO I HAVE SOMETHING TO WAKE ME UP IN THE MORNING!
...Or, y'know, just do them now. I can put off sleep for a while longer.
Hahah just go to bed, I can post them later too. I'm just getting to work so it'll be a half hour anyway. Xd
Catching up real quick since I'm at work (lunch break).
Liz, I know I'm going to love whatever you wrote. I don't have time to read everything right now, but I'm looking forward to have my mind blown. Hope you collect everything in a huge post!
Some of the headcanons I read made me drown in feels. Gah. So good. I'm probably stealing some lol.
4:42 am...can't sleep..so of course I look for new art. Figures..no new Solas art...but I did find this...which is almost as good.
