I'm not so sure Solas himself erased Cole's memory. It could be he just compelled Cole to erase his own memory. Either because spirits are easily manipulated through a certain form of magic, or because Cole trusts Solas.
Solas only takes that the part of Cole's memory that would allow Cole to find him, not his entire memory of Solas.

Yeah, good guys altering memories no matter the reason is a big no-no for me in fiction. Cole does get away with it (for me) because he doesn't know any better and you can encourage him to stop. If Solas had taken away Cole's memories in such a huge way it would've made it very, very hard for me to continue a romance with him.

Allright Solassians...I am curious which Vallaslin you would actually put on your characters now that we officially know what each of them means ? I know that it is the markings of a slave but you are stuck with them if you are a Lavellan so which one would you choose ?
It sort of boils down to which Elven deity you prefer ? Perhaps Mythal, since she has been somewhat nice and helpful to us as Flemeth throughout the franchise ? Or something else ? Pity there is no Fen'Harel markings.

I'm incredibly glad there isn't Fen'Harel vallaslin, considering what the vallaslin represents. (Also because I'm picky/petty and the amount of Lavellans that would change their vallaslin to Fen'Harel's after finding out which one it is despite their meaning would drive me mad.)
For my main Lavellan, Mythal fits her pretty well. My other Lavellan has Sylaise; I've always thought of her as a closet artist, so that works out pretty well. The only one I'd probably change is my dude Lavellan, but I have no idea which one would be best for him.

Mythal because of potential irony. You have a Vallaslin of Mythal and drink from the well to become a real servant of Mythal. Remove the vallaslin of Mythal but you'll always be a servant because you drank from the well of sorrows.

My Lavellan has Mythal's vallaslin and after knowing what they officially mean now, I'd still stick with it since I feel it suits her with the whole 'Protector' thing. My Lavellan is an archer and the character summary for the Dalish hunter at the beginning mentions how the clan relies on you for food and protection.

Well, I think
1) He's a firm believer in freedom of thought and self-agency, and considering memories make up the majority of what we are, he doesn't like tampering with it. With Cole, he just made him forget his plans, not everything, only what's necessary.
2) He can't erase himself from the Inquisitor's memories, because it wouldn't last. He left traces of his existence all over the place. Murals? Solas. Skyhold? Solas. Heck, the Inquisitor would be dead from the Anchor if it wasn't because of Solas. Things just wouldn't make sense with him out of the picture.
Admittedly I freaking love the The Immortals series. Just... don't take the Mary Sue Litmus test for Daine. Her score is OFF THE CHARTS.
But who cares because.. Numair.
All Pierce's heroines would probably get high scores on that test but to be fair so would Batman and many other males.

Mythal for the same reason I picked it before it was officially hers, Anriell strives to be a protector.
Even if Fen'Harel's vallaslin still existed I doubt he'd want Lavellan or anyone to use it.
