I shall quote tumblr:

Solas: I now must walk in solitude forever. My fate is mine alone.

Solavellan fandom: Nope. No. We’ll be there in ten minutes to pick you up and take you home. There’s hot chocolate and blankets and a very anxious Lavellan waiting at Skyhold to cuddle and love you, you bald egg headed elf demi-god bastard. There will be no break ups in this fandom even if we have to get the duct tape out.

We take our fandom very seriously.

Pretty much sums up every feeling I had.

Another thing to consider is Felassan seems convinced he can avoid whoever kills him if he avoids the fade (I re-read the passage earlier) and that wouldn't be the case with Solas, Solas wouldn't need the Fade to reach Felassan. So it seems whoever he is afraid of is stuck in the fade. Which makes me wonder if we have another big-bad coming our way, remember at the beginning of Witch Hunt there was something trying to get out of the Fade in the Fereldan Circle tower that freaks out that prophecy statue? I'm wondering if that and the thing that killed Felassan are the same being and that's our next big-bad?

This, and the fact that the elven gods are most in need of a key, is the reason I tend to side with Felassan being killed by another entity.

Fen'Harel: Everyone in this pantheon is awful. Andruil hunts elves, Falon'Din keeps making blood sacrifices to himself, Dirthamen is cool with this, I'm pretty sure Ghilan'nain made halla out of elf souls, Syalise keeps burning **** down, and Elgar'nan's temper tantrums have gone too far. Also I'm pretty sure one of you killed Mythal. I'm locking you up.
June: But I didn't do anything-
Fen'Harel: /doorslam
June: no one ever notices me

Don't be morose June. Your tAttoos are the sexiest.

But isn't that the question - what is a god?  Anyone with enough power, charisma, followers can run around announcing they're a god. Some people may believe them.  Look at Corypheus.  You play the entire game saying he's not but people really did believe he was. Look at the Inquisitor. The "Blessed Herald of Andraste". I spent the entire game playing "Life of Brian" because I knew I wasn't. I was just a person who was in the right place at the wrong time.  But people still believed I was their freaking Messiah.  The Warden's story is legendary. In time their feats will become even more ludicrous as history forgets the truth.  Same thing with the Champion.  People already probably view them as demigods.

That's also the whole point of faith. Or at least what the game tries to teach you.  If you believe in something hard enough, is it true? Does it matter?  In the end all that matters are the actions and choices you make as a person.

Morrigan during the Well of Sorrows mission says something like "what is a god if not a creature of immense (please correct me if it's not exactly the word she uses, mined to find this dialoge on yt and google and couldn't find the exact transcription) power?"

For me it's.... it's exactly what gods in DA lore are. The way if you're born/made/created with this power or actually you claim it is a secondary issue.

I totally agree with all your points. Since the DA:O all your achievements that everyone praises you for, are just a sum of coincidences, some of your skills, your actions and how people chose to think of you, but it's you who you chose to be.

The whole construction of all DA games though forces our heroes to become somehow special, demigods, as you say. Warden unifies Ferelden, deals with impossible, Champion protects the city, Quizzy has the fancy green glowing hand etc. All DA heroes are being pushed for more, they reach where the others don't. This is why I believe the whole lore is leading to a choice: if you would have the possibility to have even more power, to become a "god" = creature of unmatched power, will you chose to reach for it?

Although my BW lore predictions never happen (never expected the ME3 ending ;))

This. I know a lot of people assume Solas has only been awake for a few years, but I think it has to be a bit longer than that. He understands way too much about the current world to only have been awake a short time.

He could have been seeing reflections of events the whole time in the Fade.

The talk of Ancient Greeks=Ancient Elvhen made me make some comparisons that are probably only hilarious to me.

Elvhen subjugation of the Donarks and the strange beasts the natives make use of:

Spoiler

An example of the division of Elvhen territory according to gods, with the Neromenian tribes on a peninsula to the west.  :P

Yeah, I thought of this too, but I mean he learned the language, knows about the Qun, is familiar with the current politics. Just seems like a lot to get from memories in the Fade, though I'm sure it's possible.

Yep, Bioware has a thing for ancient Greece. In Mass Effect, Asari society was modeled after ancient Greece and there are many parallels between the Asari and elves of Elvhenan. Both have exceptionally long life spans and take their time to make decisions. Both races have inherent magical abilities that far exceed the "artificial" recreation of magic/biotics in other races. Element zero pretty much functions like lyrium (both are blue too) and allows other races to establish a connection to magic. Like the lyrium addicted templars, element zero trained biotics suffer terrible side effects. Their bodies can't handle it well. However, element zero seems to be the original source of ALL "magic" in Mass Effect, including the Asari.

While the Asari seem to be Bioware's ideal society of peaceful negotiation, and their idea of being one with a collective unconscious is basically the original song of the ancient elves, Bioware turned it on its head in Dragon Age and made their perfect society fall from grace. Also, Asari can mate with any race and their children will always be Asari. It's the other way round with the elves.

What may be interesting to consider for Arlathan and the gods is that the Asari did not become this wise incredibly intelligent biotic society on their own. Their inherent biotic abilities were engineered by the Protheans who played god with them through genetic experiments and accelerated their development with passed down knowledge. The Asari religion rose from the invisible hands of the Prothean "Maker", they spoke to the Asari through an invented god of wisdom.

I wonder if there will be something like that in Dragon Age too. Where did the magic come from? What exactly is it anyway? I kind of like the idea of Thedas being a future of the Mass Effect galaxy, one of the races came and helped the ancient elves too...

<snip>

Yes! <3 I really enjoy how the pinnacle of civilization is often depicted as Greece-inspired. I loved the Asari, and wish we could have seen more of their worlds. And the Asari's "song" and dominant-racial-babymaking-gene are something to think about.

I'm not sure how I feel about the connections between games though. On the one hand, Mass Effect and Dragon Age potential crossovers is exciting. On the other hand, I get super frustrated when the origins of a world are explained as either 1> created by a creator, or 2> advanced alien "uplifting". Both are not origins! They just raise more questions!

I have also been fighting for a while against the familiar idea that the Fade in Dragon Age is actually a virtual network, which everybody "plugs into" (i.e., following a scenario where Shepard chose the "green" option and everybody in Dragon Age is part biological, part machine. Not that the two are so different). I really hope this is not the case!

Alright that's it. This dearth of likes cannot go on. I am marching up to a mod and demanding to ask why exactly this limit exists.

Re: The trial

I think our Arlathan shapechanger was more of a man of ambition than a man of principle. He says he took wings because Ghilan'nain said he could, not because he's fighting for some idea. But wth, I love the Socrates parallel. And a Thedasian renaissance?

yessssssssss......

There is a lot open to interpretation, agreed. I gathered Ghilan'nain was just the go-to girl of you need any weird and wonderful powers granted! It just makes me happy to have pieced things together in my head, like a jigsaw

Doesnt Solas say that what he sees in the Fade isnt wicked reliable?
