I love Solas "In Hushed Whispers." He's so sad and resigned when you first encounter him, then is surprised and joyed to see you alivce, then wastes no time telling you what happened since you were away and supports you getting back to your own time. Granted, many of the companions don't waste time dwelling on sorrow or regret either, but Solas has every reason to feel crushed by the burden of regret (since he technically created his current world time and again, though especially in giving Corypheus the Orb), so I'm impressed by the swiftness in which Solas acts.
As for my Lavellan's greatest fear in "Here Lies the Abyss" ... The best word I can think of after seeing Vivienne's greatest fear being Irrelevance," was "Ineffective."
She wants to help her people - Dalish, city elves, elves everywhere. Recover their lost knowledge, improve their standing in the world, move forward as a people. She doesn't like her own elven identity being undermined by being named "The Herald of Andraste," but as several characters point out, the fact that people believe you are gives you power, and it's power she hopes to use to help the elves. Thus, her greatest fear is that all her power, her influence, her decisions and actions will prove to be ineffective in helping the elves.
I got the sense that not everyone was able to see what was on the graves. I mean, why is the Inquisitor not able to comment on them? Maybe because the only people who are able to see the graves with their greatest fear is the person themselves. But the player gets to see them all. Same reason why the fearlings look like spiders but are hinted to appear to be different to the others.
That also explains why nobody else comments on the Nightmare's words to your companions except them. Maybe Solas is seemingly saying "Banal Nadas" into thin air.
Here's an interesting question. What would be on your Inquisitor's grave?
My Lavellan's greatest fear is failure. For obvious reasons. That glimpse of the future where Corypheus succeeded deeply affected her. She saw Solas and Cass and Leliana die to save her, after having been tortured for a year. All because she hadn't been there.
Hmmm. I haven't given that much thought, and now that I'm thinking about it...I'm not sure.
Failure, loss, despair...
Loss, I think. She has lost her identity, her parents, her betrothed, her clan, and she had to watch her companions die for her in that terrible future; and finally Solas who was her rock in everything.
My poor girl has been through way too much.
part of it's my fault blasted headcanons

...while we're on the subject DEPRESSED FOR LIFE (I can't stop crying ;_; ) ima drop this sad sad song here cuz it makes me think of Solavellan.
Don't mind me, I'll just be crying my feels in a corner.
So I'm pretty certain Solas will be in DLC. Not as the main focus, just a companion, and only if you play the DLC prior to the post-game.

@Suketchi: Too busy making Solas Rivalmance playlist, man.

My lavellan's greatest fear would be sickness, plagues, being covered in maggots while her body rots away with time. She cares dearly about everyone's health.

Hmm... You should probably stay away from the Inquisition's surgeon then. Science is great and all but you can't solve everything with bloodletting.

You've obviously got an imbalance of humors.
I know a guy who can fix that. ![]()

Funny thing is that she's a rogue, so she has to get right in there. She isn't afraid of the blood, more of the effect of a disease. (especially skin disease) She hates fighting darkspawns, but the fact that is her fear, doesn't mean it will stop her. She just doesn't want it on herself.
My Lavellan's greatest fear is to be forgotten.
I'm sure there's a deep seeded traumatic childhood reason in her backstory somewhere I never bothered to create.
So my Lavellan's deeply seeded traumatic childhood thingy was that in the act of discovering her magic she almost burned her sister to death.
Fear of death is what that and other stuff caused. Death of those close to her, death of culture because she's Dalish and even if they're wrong she doesn't think they should just stop, and death of materialistic goods because I like the idea of a tribal nomad caring a Hell of a lot about things that are hers and trying to keep them preserved. Death of herself? Not the topper, but she'd rather it not happen anytime soon.
Seeing everyone dying in the bad future did not sit well with her but that's mostly another story.
Let's see...I think my Lavellan's greatest fear is failure. The whole world is depending on her, watching her. That's just so much pressure. Before she got the mark and everything, it was spiders. There was a time when she was still a child and wandering the forests alone, away from her clan like she always did, when she was attacked by three giant spiders. They almost killed her, but she froze them and ran away. She never told anyone because The Keeper wouldn't let her leave and explore by herself anymore if she knew.
Here's an interesting question. What would be on your Inquisitor's grave?
My Lavellan's would either be loss, abandonment, or loneliness. Tala loves being surrounded by friends and family, so losing everyone she cares about and being left alone in the process is something she fears the most. (Solas leaving her did not help.)
I'm sorry, but this has nothing to do with Solas. Weren't a few of you talking about Boudicca yesterday? I just saw this article posted on my Facebook news feed and thought I'd share it.

Elinan Lavellan, practical Inquisitor and Solas romancer: her greatest fear is to be trapped or imprisoned away from the forests and the mountains, the wild lands where the wind sings and freedom stirs her blood.
Adahsulahn Lavellan, compassionate Inquisitor and Cullen romancer: Her greatest fear is not being able to protect those she loves- good thing she didn't romance Solas.

Fine, I take the hint, I'll get started on conquering the world in her name as the Iceni in Rome: Total War 2. ![]()
It's just...it's just gonna take awhile.
The great thing about playing the historical losers of a conflict is that if you win, you just flipped off destiny. If you lose, you just reenacted history like a champ!

I'm real good at reenacting the Partition of Poland in EUIV, lemme tell you. ![]()

Trevelyan has the first line, Solas agrees with her.
She's a human saying "the elves aren't your people." It's very presumptuous. And he agrees with her. I'm offended on Lavellan's behalf.
The whole discussion about Briala is confusing to me. I'd like to hear PW give insight into Solas' mindset there.
I agree, the idea of a human deigning from on high to tell a (seeming) elf that other elves aren't his people, and him approving that this person decided this about him, rubs me the wrong way. Especially since he disapproves of someone presuming that he feels kinship with elves. I see; presuming enough about him as an individual and other elves enough to decide "They're not your people, you have nothing in common with them" is totally fine, but not... oh, whatever. My Lavellan was offended, believe you me.
I agree, the whole Briala discussion is all over the place. Then again, I've only played a Lavellan who expresses interest in siding with Briala during the Ball, then had this conversation in one save where I failed to help her and one where I did manage help her. Yet, in both cases, I found it odd how Solas vacillates between admiring/empathizing with Briala and being indifferent to her fate; between being a little glad to help elves/a little wistful not to help elves and going "Pfft! What do I care? The elves are not my people anyway."
Flip-flopper!
I wouldn't/wasn't offended that Solas doesn't consider dalish/elves "his people" anymore than Sera does. Solas does take an "individual first, group second" mentality and its clear long before that conversation. He tells Cass "mankind is a trial" (as in everybody, not just humans) and all that stuff, and makes it clear he pretty much identifies with spirits more than he does any of the real world Thedosians he's encountered. Just look at the lead up dialogue to "All is New, Faded for Her" in the rotunda. Or the dialogue in Haven where he asks if Cassandra is defined more by her cheekbones than her faith, Varric by his chest hair and not his wit (I think? lol) . Basically, Solas takes the view people are people (including fade people lol) and doesn't identify himself by his ears being pointed. I think he actually says that sentence too at some point, come to think of it.
Trevelyan (or any other inquisitor) correctly picking up on that vibe he's giving off and saying so isn't some haughty crime, imo. Its observant.
