That is a good question. What would Solas' drink of choice be. I have a feeling it would be something sweet. Like a good dessert wine because of his love of frilly cakes. As cerebral as he is, I have this image of him being the most delightfully prissy eater. Cakes, little finger sandwhiches, sickeningly sweet wines. I think it would be something my Lavellan would sort of mock him for.

Now I'm just picturing him making the "I don't like tea" face at a sandwich that didn't have the crusts cut off.

As a romance writer, I think I would have added one more scene at the end. Rather than lonely Lavellans getting the "forever alone" ending, I would have had Solas come to her in the Fade again and kiss her goodbye one last time. Or whisper that he loved her. I think that could have been amazing. 

 

That might not be very ethical of him, to say the least. If he says their relationship is over, I believe the only way he can kiss her after that would be asking for her forgiveness and asking if she would take him back and rekindle their relationship. And only if she agrees, then he has a right to speak to her about love. Otherwise we might be getting into the territory of mixed messages and perhaps emotional abuse(I might even say "torture"). Imagine: Lavellan loves Solas very much, and he breaks her heart by saying "no, it's over". She's devastated, she is trying to learn to live without him, just to get up every morning, and then he suddenly pops up with a kiss or a whispered word of love - and disappears again. And maybe does that more than once. I really shudder when I think of what these visits would to to her. It seems to me that Solas would not do that to her - although, of course, I respect that people would like to replay that in their head or fanfiction, but to me such behavior seems unhealthy, callous, hurtful to Lavellan, and perhaps more than a little cruel.

I don't think the final scene needs much. If it were me, I'd just add a wolf howling in the distance.

I love to hear about everyone's Lavellan's backstory. the range of them is quite interesting so, I thought I'd share mine too.

 

Ellana's childhood was neither super happy nor particularly dark. She was born the daughter of the old clan's keeper and his wife, who was a hunter. Unfortunately, they both died in a human attack when she was too young to remember them (that attack caused the clan to move to the Free Marches). Her father's younger sister, Deshanna, who was first, became Keeper and took over the task of raising her niece. Coming from a family of mages, everyone pretty much expected Ellana to be one too, and Deshanna took pleasure to teach her the way she would for a first. Unfortunately for Ellana, she grew older and by puberty, magic was still MIA. the clan having no other mages, at the next Arlathven (spelling?) when Ellana was 13, the Keeper looked for another apprentice the clan could take in. She ended up inviting a family of city elves that had fled Wycome when their younger daughter showed signs of magic at age 8 (she's my other elven character )

 

Poor Ellana did what all teenager feeling like they're being supplented by a 9yo would do and got pissed at the entire clan. As she started training to be a hunter, she couldn't wait to leave the clan behind and explore on her own. Deshanna didn't like it and worried for her niece, but also understood. As she grew older and less... angry, Ellana started spending more time in old ruins. She was intelligent and a quick study and she was more educated than  most hunter seeing her aunt taught her a lot. She starts questionning some of the clan's teaching on ancient elvhen seeing what she finds adn the little she can translated of old writing, but kept those questions to herself. She never really warmed up to her "little sister" who became Keeper's first, although she stopped hating her after she gained some maturity.

 

She jumped at the chance to go to the Conclave, mostly because she was curious, but she would never have thought it would lead her to become Inquisitor lol. She might have dreamed of being Keeper once, but the true burden of leading people is a heavy weight on her shoulders. She feels so responsible for them. her biggest fear is most certainly failure to protect.

I was wondering... am I the only one who thinks it would be interesting if he'd been romanceable for human inquistors? I know "elf-only" seems like an obvious part of his personality, but if he'd been open to a really lovely & beautiful human, then I would have felt like I REALLY got under his skin and changed his mind about things. I'm sure I'm the only one who will feel this way.

The thread had a discussion about that yesterday, so you're not alone. I've done so the human-elf romance so much (Alistair x elf mage as my canon Warden, with Alistair x Mahariel a close second, and Hawke-Fenris) that I'm tired of the dynamic. The elf is always the one who has to give up their culture, supposing they haven't already been assimilated. If you could make an elven Circle mage, I'd probably have done Blackwall's and Cullen's romance with an elf, but as it is- I can't make Lavellan do the cross cultural dance when she's already given up so much as Herald of freaking Andraste. I'm glad Solas' romance is gated. The gating makes for more believable, fully realized characters IMO, and it makes the romance more special. But, I can see the story appeal.
 

Also.. am I the only one who prefers a happy ending? I'm just so darned depressed....all over again... which means the writing must be pretty good. And I'm a romance writer myself, so I should know.

I think we'll get more material and I hope it includes a happy ending. The story is definitely unresolved. If we don't get a Wolf Hunt type resolution, I'll still love Solavellan, but it will diminish it quite a bit. The ending for her is so anti-climactic and definitely feels unfinished. Hence my signature.

I agree. Even though my Lavellan acted like a kicked puppy during the break-up scene, she would probably outright strangle him if he did that kind of stuff and tell him to make up his mind. On a similar note, I wish lavellan had the option to respond to that final "No matter what happens, what we had was real" with a scoff and a sarcastic "Yeah right". Since I totally see my quizzie, by that point, too disillusioned and jaded by the break up to be impressed.

If Solas can get into Cole's mind, does that mean Solas can get into Lavellan's head too?   (I hope he doesn't discover that my lavellan was the one who accidentally  set his coat tail on fire)

Probably.  I don't think he would invade her privacy like that though.   He only did it for Cole out of complete necessity to keep his location a secret and he was clearly very contrite about it.

Agreed. I very purposely don't headcanon Solas visiting Lavellan in the Fade, because that would just be cruel. He ended the relationship because it would've been unethical to let it continue, given everything that he wasn't telling her. A man who has the willpower to do that wouldn't then undermine it by sending Lavellan mixed signals. He even acts cold towards her afterwards in order to reinforce his decision. The one time he slips is before the final battle, because he doesn't know how this is going to turn out and he wants her to know that his feelings for her weren't a lie.

 

I think the fact that he doesn't break down and go back to her shows just how much he loves her. It would be so easy to continue the lie, to not be lonely anymore. But that would ultimately be at Lavellan's expense. So he chooses to put her above his own gratification, and face his greatest fear rather than continue to lead her on. Of course, this could all be moot if he'd just told her the truth, but Solas ain't perfect by a long shot. He's a flawed person trying to wrestle with feelings of love, guilt, and duty.

Yesterday I finally got the hang of flycam... Took me a while at first because when the cutscene would start the characters were nowhere to be found and I was just zooming in and out of blue sky and rocks, completely lost. Until I understood that you have to press Reset xD

Anyway.. I took so many screens, I have a 2gb picture folder XD hahahah

I tried the scene so many times to catch many SS.. so I also tried all the various dialoge options for fun. It's quite sad if you pick "i believe in us", Lavellan says "Whatever you need, we can find it together" and he replies "No, we can't.. You'll see".

As for the banters.. Dunno, I tried going the save/reload way while farming, but got no chats (and I've already gotten all the schematics xD so no use).
I tried walking around in Crestwood again.. nada, they just didn't talk anymore. I only had Corypheus left to kill and a quest in Crestwood about Bandits, but the bandits also wouldn't spawn. It's like my game decided that it was over, and nothing else except black wolves (oh the irony) were spawning in the entire area. 

So I decided to let it go and finished the game

Well, that will be it for me for a while, I will not do a 4th PT for now xD
Which means now I have all the time I need to finish my drawings :3
