I totally agree with those who say that watching him in motion is what attracted them first. In his promo picture, he was barely a blip on my radar. he seemed bland and frankly weird looking. But once you actually see him in game, the expressions on his face and the way he moves (that veil-fire scene, damn!), combined with his voice... I was riveted and couldn't look away. Which is weird to say of an animated character, really. He has charisma I think. And I kneel at the feet of whatever team did his animation as he's so real-looking it scares me sometimes.

Why cats? why not dogs? Are most dog people outside while cat people are holed up in their rooms chatting in forums?

 

I'm a dog person. I do not like cats and return they taunt me. Found one sleeping on my bed once. Just walked into my house, found my bedroom and went to sleep. They seek me out to torment me.

 

If you can't tell she's wearing make-up, then her natural toned makeup is working.

 

If I don't wear make-up people ask me if I'm sick. No, I'm not sick. I'm just genetically Scottish and I don't see a lot of daylight, or sleep.

First post from my new laptop \o/ It's so quiet! I'm not used to browsing and typing without being deafened at the same time. WE SHALL BE THE BEST OF FRIENDS

I don't usually get too attracted to game models. So generally, I look for characters that seem like they'd give the most interesting story, or have very nice voices. 

 

That said. There were moments in this game more than the others that really read as 'human' to me, and not just animated sock puppets. Particularly Solas's swagger when he lights that torch after the destruction of haven. Thems are some fiine animations. 

I mean Cullen is great.   But Solas in that scene - I  lost all hope by that point and I was like "WHEN IS THIS GOING TO HAPPEN SOLAS? PLEASE TELL ME IT'S RIGHT NOW".  I look forward to DA4 when we are solidly in new tech and I will NOT be able to stand it whenever the new hotness shows up.

Okay, that's a lie, I have a blog, but it's weird, and I'm horrible at consistency.  Plus, I went through A BUNCH of un-Solas-related feels a while ago that kind of made me put life on hold.

There was a gif of that swagger floating around right before the game came out.  I was already pretty lost with the first few voice clips of Solas, but dat animation.  Such sexy wow.  Much confidence.

Dog person too. Combining both replies.. There was one time a girl complimented on my red eyeshadow and asked what product it was. I wasn't wearing eye shadow, it was just my allergies.

I know people find him odd looking but I think he's actually one of the more attractive DA characters. A. Jawline. His profile is really nice.  B. The way he holds himself. 

 

The scene on the balcony where Lavellan and him are facing eachother before he TRIES to leave - perfect(though  a lot of that was camera angles but who cares!).  It goes to his whole air of confidence.  It just works for him. 

Oh don't even get me started on that scene. Jawline is amazing, yes, but I'm always drawn to how...solid he looks. Like you could wrap your arms around his torso and hug him forever. Observe:

Thanks! I uh... WAS going to do some designs somewhere on there, but uh... lazy ultimately took over.

 

I especially appreciate her highly impractical hair... I think I was overcompensating for the 50 bald hairstyles we get to choose from in-game.

LOL that's some improvising for you. I love all animals, but I like dogs more because they're more useful and I can play with a dog without worrying about hurting him. We wrestle and play fight all the time, and I like taking my dog outside off the leash and so on for miles. I feel like I can do more with dogs than I could a cat.

I almost went all Buffy/Spike on that scene - as he was leaving - and was like "I don't know what I would have done had he left".  Probably thrown my monitor out the window and wrote a nasty letter to BW for being a DISGUSTING TEASE.  Even looking at the pictures <sighs> How Lavellan adopts his posture...swoons eternally.

Yes. I also love how completely unsubtle Lavellan is at the beginning of the scene.

Agh all these cats. I had a bad cat week. My dad had to put my cat to sleep on Monday. My mother adopted him for me as a present when I was 16, and he was just a little yellow baby barn cat. He grew up to be the most empathetic and sweetest cat that ever existed. He was 17 and had a good life. I miss him. He was very soft.

This is also why I'm afraid of small dogs too. Like I'll sit or step on them on accident. And dogs generally love to express how happy they are, you have to win a cat's affection. Mess with them and the cat will remember that. Someday I want to adopt a cat and give it the same training as dogs.

Depends on the cat  Mine is very dog-like.  He's super energetic and playful, really social, follows me around the house, even walks on a leash.  Though I suppose it's overly generous to say I can take him for walks; he just wanders in random directions and I have to follow him.

That's the way I feel when I see his model too! There's something about the way he's built that makes me want to wrap my arms around his waist. It's probably the v-shape he has with his broader shoulders and he has a more slender waist and yet he's a lot more solid looking than the other male elves in DAI.  He was modeled really well!

I LOVED that. Especially since he seems to adopt that posture as a visual signifier of closing himself off or pulling himself back. Lavellan mirroring that posture at that moment--it reads to me as a really subtle and sensitive recognition of vulnerability.

Bombays and siamese are both incredibly dog like cats. I had a bombay, he would run and play with the dogs and walk with you outside.

Also, is anyone here like me in that they get pushed away from obvious love interests? In dragon age, for guys I don't think there was really an obvious choice, though Leliana was a lot easier to be with and she seems personality and looks wise to be more "traditional" so to speak.

 

In DA 2, I think Isabella was the more expected choice, and here, Josephine personally seemed more the expected choice as well. Didn't like any of them for romances.

 

Anyone just bored with the typical LIs? Like Cullen, he personally seems a lot more safe than the other two choices. Which for me translates to boring... I know a lot of people are tired of weird romances where something like Morrigan's ritual happens lol, but that's also not very entertaining.

 

And beyond that, I think we've just been saturated from the media with their same old portrayals of beauty that when we see something new, it's a lot more exciting. Granted, it took an in game view to see it first, but still. Variety is always good. I'd personally be rather disappointed if all our love interests looked like Miranda lawson for instance. Solas, Cassandra, they're a breath of fresh air I think.
