I didn't get that from Solas at all. He just abhors slavery and any form of controlling free will so of course he hates marks that were associated with it and once caused people pain. And I think the vallaslin have little to do with his problems with the Dalish. Their view on them is an example of the main thing he dislikes about them, but hardly the only thing he's hung up on or even close.

I was being...facetious??(not the right word).  I agree I didn't get sense at all either and frankly I'm probably applying personality traits from the FF that I read on Solas - they all depict him thinking about how guh-ross the tattoos are.  I actually thought him telling Lavellan about the vallaslin was more about giving her the freedom to choose.  Which I think was incredibly sweet.  ANYWAYS - It was more to say that their views on it could be different. Nuanced.  Just an interesting perspective. And I said earlier on here, even if they bring him back he will never match the character that's already been built up.  Based on what we've seen he'll probably be a totall as*hole. And i agree, there are too many similarities with his character and Solas that I don't think we'll see him back in a major way like a companion.  I hope he pops for fun stuff in the DLC - I have a feeling he'll want to help Solas.

Haha a refresher from Google definitions says that probably isn't the right word! You were messing around and it's hard to read tone on the internet. Plus I was just reading something that in all seriousness described Solas like that so I took it too seriously! And yeah, I've found that some depictions of Solas in fanfction are....weird.  Oh well, to each their own!

 

And don't be so certain! I definitely had a picture of Solas in my head and though who he turned out to be was different, I still think he's amazing. If they decide to continue with Abelas, I'm sure they'd make him super compelling! Did Gaider write him, I wonder? I can't remember if it was him that wrote that whole mission.

I'd be ok with this. I would accept this.   She would be all like "F---Yeah, Abelas!" and do the whole Bill and Ted air guitar as she does a high kick.  Frankly, buddy adventures with grumpy Abelas would be great.  It would be almost like having Sten and Shale back.  *sob*

For some reason, although it has nothing to do with what you wrote, reading this led me to think of Solas and Abelas as buddy cops. That'd be interesting. They'd snark everyone to death. 

 

And now I'm imagining Solas and Dorian in a cop movie. I can totally see Dorian being Solas' new and eager young partner and Solas is the jaded veteran cop who finds him irritating and doesn't want to work with him. And then they strike up an unlikely friendship, of course. Just like in the movies!

I was playing through, er, yet another lavellan, and I noticed this oddity:

This screenshot is taken when she is level 5, just before heading to Val Royeaux for the first time. She had just asked him to tell her more about himself and asked about him staying in order to experience more, and after his usual speech about "all are in danger", she said "ah", then he said that.

 

I had never seen this dialogue, and uh, she isn't the Inquisitor yet, so I am thinking maybe I PL'd my approval with him to very high levels that shouldn't have happened until after Skyhold?

 

Ah well, always nice to find new things.

 

If you raise his approval too much he gets an extra line of dialouge during that converstation.  I guess the devs didn't account for people raising his approval that high while still in Haven.

I have been thinking about a possible post-game DLC where the inquisitor tracks down Solas to wrap up the inquisition storyline.

 

Imagine if we were given the opportunity to either side with him or against him upon discovering his plan, but that Bioware makes it so that Solas succeeds in his accomplishing whatever his next step of his plan is regardless of your choice. So if you chose to oppose his plan, the two of you fight, ending with Solas fatally injuiring the inquisitor.

 

I just think it could be interesting to see a scene where a Solas that was a friend with the inquisitor (as was the case on my canon-playthrough) choses to stay with the inquisitor as he lies dying. Considering what Solas' greatest fear is, I can't imagine he would leave a good friend to die alone in some elven ruin even if they technically became enemies at the end.
