This one makes me a sad panda.

That first comic is pretty awesome. I've envisioned something similar for my Lavellan to find out the truth. Either that or something weird in the fade.

The second is also part of my headcannon. Like WHY SOLAS WHY!

Oh shiiiiznit I hadn't seen that! I might side with @Colonelkillabee that it's just a cute easter egg, but part of me wants the Forgotten Ones to be Eldrich Horror Madness-Inducing Void spawn. That's what the Elven God Andruil Codex entry makes me think anyway:

Yeah you guys may be right about it being an easter egg but I'm getting paranoid with all these theories and I admit it would be kind of cool. I guess we'll have to wait and see. lol

It's something to the effect of "You will be the death of me." Or perhaps more akin to "I'm going to kill you" in intent. It's an exasperated curse, essentially.

Ah makes sense! It always makes me laugh but I never know what he's saying~

EMPRESSSS. It's so dirty. And so right.

EDIT: But those two chapters of Apotheosis in the stairwell ... Those take the frilly Orlesian cakes and lather me with frosting. Elven. Freaking. Glory.

Maleficar is basically singlehandedly reponsible for dom!Fen'Harel being my Dragon Age guilty pleasure.  Elven glory indeed.

Out of curiosity.. you awesome artists out there, do you prefer photoshop or manga studio?
I've got both on the pc but I have never tried manga studio yet ;P I keep telling myself I should but since I am more used to photoshop I never do.
I didn't know this thing about a 3d model tho.. interesting! I shall check that out!

I can draw manga/cartoon styles alright.. but then sometimes I get so depressed when it takes me days to do something and then I see what other people can do in the same amount of time.. xD I wish I was better at doing more realistic shading/colouring T_T

RoyalRel, share your secrets XD :3

Heard good things about manga studio, people bring up the program quite a few times with recommendations such as use in animation. But I use Photoshop  ONLY if I have Lazy Nezumi and Kyle's magepack Brushes. Without them, vanilla photoshop would just be vanilla because let's be honest, default brushes suck and I like to make perfect strokes with less effort.

Before I had those extensions, I did use SAI for a time because their brushes were nice and community sizable.

Oh man, I would so love to! <3 But I can't promise anything at the moment, I'll be out tomorrow for a friends birthday and I don't know when I'll be home, lol.
And where, what? I haven't seen them! Links, please? :>

Spoiler

Gchat will always be here.

Quick question: I don't know any Elvish except "vhenan" because of reasons but in this conversation, what did Solas tell Sera?

Solas: Our people used to be here.
Sera: Pfft, you say that everywhere.
Solas: It is more true than you want to believe.
Sera: I bet, right? Who wants to think about stepping on dead elves?
Solas: Din elvhen emma him?
Sera: Oh, you felt that one.

Ooh, I saw this same question last week!

Din - dead, deceased.
Elvhen - elves.
Emma - I am.
Him - become.

So it's literally "Dead elves, I [have] become." However, taken into context what they're saying - Solas marvels what "his people" built (as in, those from his time), Sera shows flagrant disregard and says "who wants to think about stepping on dead elves?" In frustration, he probably meant words to the effect of "My people really are dead!" Or "Have my people really become so dead?!"

Just my guess.

 If I saw all this art while waiting for a commission, I'd still be breathing heavily, lol :P Amazing and excited.

Side note, as a nerd of all things lovecraftian or lovecraft related (this isn't his work, but considered in the same universe) This is awesome:

That's one thing I like about how the Magisters and Darkspawn look. You see them and you know there's something horribly, horribly wrong that eats a pit in your stomach. Their fleshy deformation speaks to a deeper, more corrupted core. While the Red Templars were scary, they felt artificial.. crafted whereas the organic vileness of the Darkspawn and lyrium over-use sinking/ skewing of features is terrifying because you can see remnants of a humanity twisted beyond repair.

There's a part of you that rejects them with every fiber of your being and NEEDS to destroy them out of fear. Fear because you can still see yourself in it. Fear because you might be that twisted on the inside, you're just not showing it yet. And the blight is just waiting for an opportunity bring it out of you, unlock your penchant for evil, and manifest it on the outside.

One of the stories in "The King in Yellow" is named "The Yellow Sign"

It is about an artist who is troubled by a sinister churchyard watchman who resembles a coffin worm.

Hahaha this is amazing! It has to be a clue

I read The Nameless City recently and had no doubt it was related. Now I guess it's time to comb through them all

Sorry this is a bit off topic but I know this thread is full of lore buffs and smarty-pantses.

Do broodmothers have a definite lifespan? Regular darkspawn are immortal b/c of the taint, but broodmothers are not true darkspawn, just tainted/mutated females of various species. Considering how fast the Mother was able to field an entire ARMY, how has thedas not been completely overrun by darkspawn???

This. I actually studied Art History for the deep love of it - to my father's chagrin("CANT YOU JUST MINOR IN IT??")  I was on spring break in Puerto Rico during my senior year and was talking to a woman at the pool and told her what I was studying. She actually laughed in my face and said "Oh God, what will you do with that?".  I was so stunned by her complete rudeness that I didn't respond, but I should have said '******, I will be a functioning and wonderful member of society....unlike you...hag'.

On Topic and semi-related:  When I first saw the mural in Skyhold - as a mage Trevelyan - I was like 'Oh Solas...How did you know!!??'

Well, not to belabor it, but I wish I'd listened to my parents when they told me to get a real major.

Tell me what you really think, Solas.

Interesting comment on Cassandra since we talked about their relationship. This is when the Inquisitor responds "I'm just part of a team. What about Cassandra or Leliana?"

Ghouls extend their lifespan as well I'm pretty sure, just like the grey warden in DA 2's dlc.

I spent a whole afternoon trying to pair up the old Gods and the Elvish gods.

I'll have to find what I ended up with, but I think Razikale and Zazikel are Falon'Din and Dirthamen. I dont think i had a better reason than "they sound related." Also I love how my phone recognizes how to spell Elvish gods but not how to spell anything else I ever try.

In any case I had theories and reasonings. I'll have to look it up.

well that just makes my question all the more important, then. If we have immortal broodmothers popping out 20-50 darkspawn at a time, how is it the surface hasn't been completely overrun (let alone Orzammar)?

Maybe they are cannibals and most end up eating each other.

I wonder how a dark spawn sustains itself..

Darkspawn are compelled to seek out the calling that the Old Gods send out.  So they mostly dig underground searching for the Old Gods.  It's the reason they all return underground once the Archdemon is dead.  This is also why the Grey Warden plan to kill the Old Gods to stop future Blights was a terrible one...  With no more calling, there would be nothing keeping the the majority of them underground any longer.

This has been my question FOR A WHILE. Hence my shriek question. We know they have elven broodmothers.. somewhere underground. There should be more of them. Unless they use the shrieks to do the digging because they already have sword-space arms and they dig faster. But that's just silly.

I'd imagine a broodmother is capable of living a MINIMUM of double the average healthy mortal lifespan. But I'm also unaware of how long darkspawn... incubate. Do they have an average 9 month birth cycle? Or are they having 20-50 darkspawn chid'rens every week?

The Mother managed to birth an entire ARMY of children between her awakening by the Architect and DAO:A. That suggests a fairly short gestation. (I think the mother was turned just after Urthemiel bit the dust.)

I'm not sure if I took this for granted or if it's mentioned somewhere (I'll try looking it up when I can), but I always thought Broodmothers were more-or-less subdued until a Blight, and then would become active when there was one.

Incidently I hated that part in Origins; listening to the female dwarf talk about how they made Broodmothers in that dead voice. ;_; All the chills were felt that day. Some playthroughs I'd turn subtitles off and volume down to avoid hearing it. >_<

I wondered the same thing, my friend. There should be enough to cover thedas. Why they don't, my only guess is because the taint's primary programming is to search, not destroy.

It still doesn't explain how ferelden was able to hold back the blight on its own, politically fractured as it was. There was 400 years between the fourth blight and the fifth blight. Even if all of the darkspawn stayed in the deep roads to dig during those intervening years, there should have been hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of darkspawn to breach the surface when Urthemiel rose.
