Lol my character's not inheriting a damn thing anyway after what he did to his family. Burned that bridge forever pretty much. Was glad I could say we're not on good terms in game. Gave me some wiggle room for a story.

Which reminds me, I really hope Solas gets at least ONE scene where he gets to make people bow before him, and unlike Flemeth actually embraces it. Just one. No more of that kind bashful god crap. BOW. BOW BEFORE ME! BOW BEFORE FEN'HAREL, DIVIDER OF WORLDS AND SEALER OF GODS!

I just had the insane idea to go check if there were any DA sims. I've played all the sims games and spent more time than I'd like to reveal playing sims 3... but for some reason I never thought to look for DA sims. Dunno why.

I'm personally hoping that Solas is telling the truth when it comes to elven gods not even being close to "gods", but just powerful beings that others decided were gods. I like the idea that he was an ancient elf who was somehow raised to godhood at some point, for reasons we don't know yet. That's why I'm hoping his body is his and that's how he always looked. Not that he was some crazy powerful essence that took over a body.

I think we should clarify things so people know what camp I'm in and so people don't get confused. It seems we have three sides.

 

1. Solas was always Fen'harel.

 

2. Solas was never Fen'harel and he's just letting him hitch a ride.

 

3. Solas wasn't always Fen'harel, but he is now and they may as well be the same person.

 

I'm that last one. I also think this blend happened very long ago, and that Solas' experiences that he shared are indeed his own. As in the elf body.

 

I'm in the "I don't give a **** as long as he's still Solas" camp, can we add that one?

3. So: Black City (BC)/Golden City is also underground?

3.1. Corrupted magisters are expelled from BC and come out as 1st darkspawn, so as point 1 is confirmed as a fact, then it supports the point 3 theory, unless there is some direct connection between the Fade (where the BC is supposed to be?) and the Deep Roads.

3.2. This all underground place of all mystical stuff made me think of the Stone

3.2.1. Dwarfs think of the Stone is a "she"

3.2.2. There is a cult of Ancestors who live(d) according to Stone's will

3.2.3. Does all this does not sound similar to the guardians of Well of Sorrows or the Well of Sorrows itself? Bound to the will of the deity, ancient knowledge transmitted through generations to the ones willing to obey to the deity's will...

4. So what is the Stone? All the above made me think of the codex entry of Mythal as Great Protector which echoes the story of the destruction of the earth by the sun and how Mythal and Elgar'nan bring balance between these two.

4.1. Here again the Earth is "she", she's the mother, where the sun is male, father.

4.1.1. Can the dwarfs worship the Earth directly, as the Stone...?

4.2. Mythal is a creature born "out of the sea of the Earth's tears": there is definitely a connection between Mythal and Earth only, while Elgar'nan is the child of Earth and Sun. Does it has any meaning? Let's leave it aside as for now.

4.3. In this story Sun is depicted as a destructive force which needs taming but also is required to grow life.

4.4. Again: dichotomy, this time Earth and Sun and their children are the ones which negotiate and restore balance between these two.

Mythal as a potential Archdemon:   Mythal is a unique case in terms of the Pantheon, and understanding what makes her different does a lot to explain why being Dumat (or any of the Archdemons) doesn't seem possible.  Conceptually, OGS-piloting a dragon uses the fade like an eluvian crossroads: it requires an OGS to be drawn from the original body and redirected into the dragon "vehicle".  The key here is that Mythal doesn't have a connection to the fade of Thedas.  She is, conceptually, a very small fragment of the soul of Earth, one of the two powerful pre-veil entities that created the world.  Consequently, she's not connected to the fade like the other members of the Pantheon are.  In much the same way that the Fade can be conceived of as the soul or fade-shadow of Thedas, Mythal carries around a fragment of her own Fade, the independent source of her power.  The fact that she is fundamentally distinct from Thedas and its Fade means her OGS cannot be redirected via Falon'Din's fade-crossroads: not to an OGS vehicle and not to another body when she dies.  This is why her soul haunts the physical world each time she's sacrificed, and why she's forced to wait for a willing host to take her in.  

 

A second important thing to note here is that all of Mythal's magic draws from this internal, finite source- the last of which is granted to Solas at the end of DAI.  Her OGS however, as we conceive of it, goes elsewhere.  To Morrigan. 

 

If our basic understanding here isn't flawed, this distinction is important.  Solas is not Mythalolas now.  He is still just Solas, gifted with what remained of Mythal's fade power.  This means what we conceive of as OGSes and fade shadows are not the same thing, if you see what I'm getting at.  Mythal gave her fade-shadow to Solas, and her OGS to Morrigan.

 

This is where terminology makes things more confusing than they should be  Conceptually we're primed to conceive of beings as having two parts: a physical body and a soul- and this is basically true of all the mortal races of Thedas.  We call OGSes "Old God Souls", but by all appearances an OGS may be, in fact, far more representative of the physical side of existence.  It is the concentrated Will of an entity: its identity, its Self, its memories.  Unlike spirits, the core nature of an OGS seems to be persistent and unchanging.  And tellingly, each one also seems intimately tied to a Duty or Purpose.  

 

This, I think, might be the key to understanding what OGSes actually are, and why they exist.  It's possible they're the embodiment of powers granted by Mythal early in Thedas' primordial history, which the granted entity was expected to use in the performance of a specific eternal Duty in service of the People and the Stone.  ...maybe?  

 

AAAH.  No.  Let me back right up out of that train of thought, because it's heading straight to uncooked crazytown, which is nowhere near your other questions.

I am wary of Flemeth. I don't think she's the typical villain type like Corypheus, who is cliched as all get-out. When y'all pointed that out, it raised a red flag. 

 

The first clue is the name of the age and the games: dragon. Flemeth can transform into a dragon, perhaps she is a dragon, she is Mythal. Perhaps BioWare is telling us right up front that this age was not just named because dragons began appearing again...but because Flemeth may change the world.

 

She has appeared in all three games, leaving us with more questions and just a few clues that would help us connect with what occurred in DAI. She is clever, powerful, and dangerous, a frightening combination. A typically villainous combination, but we know BioWare doesn't like to make a bad guy look like a bad guy. If they do...they're just distracting us.

 

And so comes in Corypheus.

 

I love Cory, I think he's awesome, but he's a terribly shallow character. BioWare could have easily fleshed him out, made us sympathize with him - and while we kind of do in a sense, we don't care about him like we do Flemeth, Solas, Morrigan, or Loghain. 

 

So what is BioWare distracting us from? Not Solas or Morrigan: they were shoved in front of us with a big sign reading "PAY ATTENTION TO THEM." Nearly everything these two intend has been revealed upfront. BioWare is showing us their hand, and hiding the ace in their sleeve; and we know it's there...we just don't know when they are going to play it; but we have an idea: when there are higher stakes. 

 

Flemeth is that ace, and the winning card just happens to be Mythal, the murdered goddess intent on justice and vengeance on those who killed her. But they're gone...right? 

 

No. They're stuck somewhere.

 

Who stuck them in eternal time-out? Solas. 

 

Solas, I'm sure, is the only person who can find the Creators and free them. Hence the importance of the focci, and Solas taking Flemeth's power. Flemeth allowed Solas to take her power, but I doubt it was all of it...just enough for Solas to do what he must...or what she wants him to do.

 

Solas, I think, is too distracted by his own guilt, sorrow, and pride to realize he very well may be being used by Flemeth. Or, he does realize it but he doesn't give a **** because he is so convinced that what he did was wrong, and he will do anything to undo it despite the consequences of another god's wrath...a wrath that may destroy everything. He is so ****** lonely, he is willing to risk being killed just to end it.

 

But Flemeth wants to kill the ones who murdered her/Mythal. How exactly will she go about that?

 

Not quietly. From the stories, she went all out on enacting justice. Have ulterior motives? Dead. Imagined slight? Dead. No real mercy, no slap on the hand. Poof. Dead. And it may not stop just there. 

 

Flemeth has been in the background for too long for me to feel safe anymore. She is pulling the strings, saving the chess pieces that keep the world going for her benefit so she can have her vengeance. 

 

The world was betrayed? By who?

 

The elven gods? 

The Maker?

Tevinter?

 

By Solas for locking away the only ones who could save Arlathan?

 

I believe Solas' story isn't just about redemption. It's about saving him.

Question for the thread: In your Thedas who do you consider to be more heartbroken by the way things turned out, Solas or Lavellan?

 

Oh man Solas is CRAZY heartbroken over my Lavellan. He thinks it's the end forever between them, because he thinks that what he's doing he has to do alone and he won't come back alive from that path he must "walk in solitude forever."  So he's crazy depressed, I imagine the only thing keeping him going is the memory of his Lavellan and dat asssss. 

 

But fortunately for him my Lavellan is a badass warrior queen and she's already working her way towards finding him. Her heart's not broken because she never believed it was really over. She knew Solas was being grim and fatalistic, she knows DAMN SURE that he was keeping something from her, probs because he's so hung up on being this martyr and carrying his burden alone. Lavellan is like, UGH BARF CITY FOREVER, get over yourself Solas, because she signed up for this romance and that meant she was willing to help him with his burden because THAT IS WHAT LOVE IS. Solas told her everything would be clear after the final fight, but man, NOTHING is clear and she is fueled by the FURY OF WOMAN, a woman who knows her man did something stupid and thought he had to push her away to keep her safe. That much she knows is true, but what Solas forgot is that personal safety means squat when the one you love is in peril. Lavellan is about to remind him of that fact. 

 

With, you know, plenty of angry make-up sex.

Nope. He says everything will become clear after the battle. That doesn't mean he will tell us. He's sneaky that way. And cruel.

I unfortunately cannot show you proof but my dialogue was like:

 

L: "Explain why"

S: "No, we must focus on the battle"

L: "Will you explain later?"

S: "Yes, if we're both still alive I will explain it all".

 

I only played this once though, so I do not know the different dialogues. I know they can change considerably depending on the previous choices throughout the game.

ANYWAY, I highly doubt that there's someone seperate in there. Nothing really suggests that the guy you're talking to is being possessed or is just being a fen'harel muppet, so you've got little to worry about.

 

Unless someone murders him too.

Exactly, and he doesn't say WHEN everything will be made clear after the battle. It could be days, months or years; however long it takes to put his plan to action. I'm guessing whatever his Big Plan is will result in world-shaking consequences - enough that it'll catch the Inquisition's attention (it being a major world power and all), which in turn will catch the Inquisitor's attention, who will soon learn that Solas is behind it, and will soon piece together that he broke up with her so he could do this.

 

Yeah, I mean, SOMETHING would have become immediately clear about him had the orb survived the final battle. Since he likely would have snatched the thing up immediately once the battle was over, it would be clear that he was involved with the orb somehow and that he wanted it and planned to do something with it. A few pieces might be able to click into place after that, even if he never said a word to you. So yeah, he wasn't exactly lying.
