Similarly, I was never big on fanfics, but... with Solas it's different. I don't mind reading the fanfics at all. I've actually enjoyed quite a few of them. Contemplating writing a few of my own, even. I feel like maybe I just need reasurance tHat everythi g is going to be okay. I've never been this emotionally torn about a video game before, but it's nice to know I'm among such good company here in the blanket fort.

Same here. In my case I search for ff when I desperately need closure, like in Solavellan case.

It still doesn't explain how ferelden was able to hold back the blight on its own, politically fractured as it was. There was 400 years between the fourth blight and the fifth blight. Even if all of the darkspawn stayed in the deep roads to dig during those intervening years, there should have been hundreds of thousands (or even millions) of darkspawn to breach the surface when Urthemiel rose.

(But seriously the Fifth Blight was shocking in how quickly it was decided. Most had numerous legendary campaigns as desperate measures to preserve resources so that one day, maybe, they could take down the Archdemon. And a single Orlesian with a genius idea and good aim was faster at disabling an Archdemon's ability to flee and making it vulnerable to the army at large than most of the griffon-riders in squads ever were.)

I usually don't like to read ff that happen after the game story because I'm always scared they might come real and that I will not be surprised when eventual DLC or expansions come 

I've bee known to do that too. I tend to not read a lot of fan theories about anything because I like to be surprised.

I wanted my lavellan to be.. more innocent looking.. since I prefer in real life more the elegant sexy make up style and so on.. I somehow felt like my lavellan with solas should be.. uhm.. more.. of innocent but yet slightly mature looking. I couldn't really cosplay her that well haha XD

I wanted my lavellan to be.. more innocent looking.. since I prefer in real life more the elegant sexy make up style and so on.. I somehow felt like my lavellan with solas should be.. uhm.. more.. of innocent but yet slightly mature looking. I couldn't really cosplay her that well haha XD

Haha mine actually looks a bit like me now that I think about it. Same eye color, skin color, hair color, lip shape. Yeesh. And very minimal looking makeup so it'd be an easy cosplay, I just need to get the hair right. She has that hair that's pulled back with the little waves in front of the ears.

Okay so now I'm really confused.    I've just been doing the Winter Palace plot again but this time I sacrificed Celene and put Gaspard on the throne as Briala's puppet.   This is my run through with male Lavellan so no romantic distractions to get in the way of our conversations.   Anyway, we're discussing the events and I comment that in choosing to side with Briala I'm glad I was able to help our people (a conversation I didn't get when I reconciled Celene and Briala on previous run with female Lavellan) and Solas is confused for a moment before he realises I mean the elves and says he helped the Inquisition because it benefits all races (I'm paraphrasing).    Then he goes on to show admiration for Briala and what she has achieved and comments how most people would have looked at her and only seen a pair of ears.  

 

This is puzzling on two fronts; first why he will only romance a female elf if he doesn't regard them as his people and doesn't judge people on their race; second in respect of the conversation in the epilogue because "my people need me" most certainly doesn't relate to the modern day elves based on the exchange I just had with him.    If he is talking about the ancient elves or the elven gods, why now?   What has occurred that woke him up and required him to take action?

I honestly never got that impression from her, tbh. Honestly, I have a lot of issues with her, but I sympathize with her because the mages are a ragtag bunch of people, and they can't really be choosy about who leads them. Their pool is limited, so someone has to stand up and do what they think must be done, and she did, against a bunch of grown ass men in white armor with sexual frustrations grand enough to ****** off a peacock.

 

She failed as a leader, and normally I have no sympathy for incompetence, though I'm not really defending her in that aspect. Just showing appreciation for the character. Not everyone can be a Arminius. Sometimes you're stuck with Publius Quinctillius Varus. At least she had the balls to stand against them.

 

Also, I think her outfit is cute

I quite liked Fiona in the Calling. I don't think she made a good show of being Grand Enchanter, and I'm frustrated I don't have more information on how she was cured of the Taint, but I still liked her. I think a lot of the book characters weren't quite as interesting to me because, well, the Anglo side of me bred a disdain for Orlesian accents as a prank on the heavily French side of my family.   Makes me twitchy.

Also, good analogy. At first I was just like, "Yeah, good comparison of incompetent leaders."

But Varus was a Roman general and governor that led his men to doom because he trusted Arminius. Arminius, the German raised by Romans and who served in the Legions, but still came from the traditional enemies of Rome. And he kept trusting Arminius, despite all the glaring warning signs. And in the end, he committed an honorable Roman suicide while fighting alongside his men in Teutoberg Forest.

That's...actually kind of the perfect analogy.

Though Arminius is much cooler than Alexius, though we can hardly blame Alexius for that. I mean, it's Armenius.

Solas has a lot of conflicting feelings about the current elves.  He doesn't have much in common with them, this is true.  But he does want to help them.  He has tried in the past to help the Dalish and been rejected which is why he's annoyed with them.

 

He will only romance a female elf partially because game resources were limited.  And I think Weekes said he wrote it the romance with a female elf in mind (I might be wrong about that).

 

At the end he says "the People, they need me" ... usually in DA when "the People" are referenced, it means the elves.  Well, the Dalish use it to refer to themselves but in general I think it can be applied to all elves.

Speaking of art, drew my Aliyah Levellan last night (again).  I'm making it a point to draw something every single day, even if it's just a stick figure with pointed ears.
