That voice is so perfect for Cole. So close to how I imagined it, except the accent. I never imagine things with accents, for some reason. Which is odd, because I love them.

 

That tweet makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy because it seems to up Solas' chance at LI status, but really sad because it seems to lower Varric's chance. About a year ago, I was all aboard the Varric train because it's Varric, but I kind of moved on because... it's Varric. He's my bro. But that doesn't mean I don't want him to be available for those who do want him - the Varricmancers are so lovely!

I'm exactly the same. I actually really wanted Varric as an LI, because it would've been interesting and he's our lovable dwarf! But now I only care about Solas and to a lesser degree Vivienne. I don't care about anyone else. I'd give up anyone for Solas to be romanceable. Plus Varric is totally fine as a loyal friend/bro.

Also guys...I wanna know your thoughts. Is it just me that is getting a bit irked by comments on how Solas can't be an LI because of his personality? People seem to be implying that introverts or more reserved and independent people's personality "can't work" for romances and it's irking me a tad bit. Especially as an introvert myself.

He has a 50/50 chance of becoming an LI, but I'm willing to bet all of my money that it isn't because of his personality.

Yeah, I'm going to have a friend who is mighty upset about that tweet :/ I know that some people have known about the romances since last summer, but were NDA'ed (Lolalei over in the Cullen thread comes to mind) so I'm assuming that by last April they were already writing or that the romances were already written. Could be a huge misdirection from Gaider, but I dunno. I wouldn't count out Varric, but I really feel that it's between Blackwall and Solas at this point. Who knows, though D:

People who make that assumption probably just want someone else to be a LI. Introverts can love too!

I'm getting a tad irked, yes. I myself am introverted so I'm just thinking, "Yeah, um, hi, right here...." when I see those. If he's not an LI, it's not going to be because he's an introvert.

 

 

But as RebelishGirl just said, it's probably because they're rooting for someone else. We've done it in here a bit, too. I'm trying not to take it that personally.

I'm an introvert and I like friendships, romance, and getting together with others for events or parties just fine. The difference is that I have a limit of how much of that I can take, and then I want to be alone and to myself for awhile. That also means that I have no desire to be constantly glued to my partner's side and am perfectly content if we are off in our own world, even if we are in the same house or room.

If Solas is a love interest but likes his research and ruins and alone time, he can certainly wander off on his own for a bit to do his thing. He might like his lover with him, or might not. Only time I would see that being an issue is if a potential partner expects him to constantly hang around and entertain them. I'd go batsh*t insane too.

Besides, wouldn't a romance with an introvert like Solas be adorable? How he'll open up and show the Inquisitor different sides of himself that nobody else knows. His witty side, his sarcastic side, his sweet side...I'd love to romance him for so many reasons!

No but we shouldn't take to heart what people say, they probably weren't thinking that "Hey someone in here is an introvert so it might not be cool to say this or that." No way do I think they intentionally would do such a thing as to attack a person for whom they are. (see that whom, sound so smart when you say that, or does it not work DragonRacer? You are my very own dictionary! i NEED YOU XD)

 

But yeah, Science To Do said we shouldn't take it personally. But maaaaaybe just nudge them so they get that it's a little mean.

Same, I'm thinking it has to do with what RebelishGirl said about wanting someone else as a romance.

But I also think this is pulling from tropes. When you have a lot of 'leading man/woman' personalities, it's often the more introverted or scholarly minded characters that forgo carnal pleasure for that of an academic kind. There are some exceptions to this, of course, but it has happened enough in popular media for people to draw to this conclusion automatically.

Yeah I've never taken it personally, just I kind of read the post twice and wonder, "what's so wrong with an introvert loving and being loved"? There's just as many introverts in the world as there are extroverts! Being reserved, scholarly, and enjoying your alone time definitely doesn't mean that you won't enjoy being with your partner.

Exactly. I have a small circle of friends who I absolutely adore, but there comes a time when I need to get away from them for a few hours.

 

Slightly OT, but I used to go to school with this girl who was generally well-meaning, but the things she said had a tendency to get away from her. She once asked why I didn't go to or throw big parties, and I responded with something like, "Well, I'm sort of an introvert, I guess, haha." Then she asked why I didn't like people. I still kinda regret snapping at her. It probably didn't help my case that much, and she really was a nice girl.

 

If Solas is an LI and he ends up spending every waking moment around me, I'd be a little sad/annoyed because he'd be sacrificing some of the alone time he needs for his research, and "Maker's breath I love you but please leave me be for a moment I NEED AIR."

 

I'd still romance him, though, because I have no shame. I'd just headcanon that he wanders off sometimes.

Ha ha ha, yes. I can indeed say that is the case for mine.

In any event, I'm just pointing to this in the media. It might be time restraints (you only have a movie or a 12 episode series) that doesn't allow for the scholarly character on the side to be used for anything but a talking encyclopedia. Or budget where... once again... the scholarly character is used for nothing but a talking encyclopedia. Heck, lets take a step back and look at the other problems presented in popular media. For example, the representation of females and how so called 'difficult' it is to animate a woman or have movies pass the Bechdel test or have a woman be anything other than a prop. Or young boys who grow up with movies with an outcome where they deserve a 'prize' (which could be a woman and is often a woman, or fame, or money) for doing something, therefore shaping how they think in their teens and early adulthood. 

Long story short (and the above isn't an attack towards you Uirebhiril, I'm just stating it how it is) some individuals just get it in their minds that things must stay a certain way because it has always been a certain way.

Edit: And heck, I should throw other characters at them and fight what they're saying, Abe Sapien in Hellboy 2 fell in love, annnnddd the Doctor in Treasure Planet ends up starting a family in the end. I'm sure the more I think the more I can come up with, but those two jumped out at me at the first thought.

Goodness, so many introverts in here. I never realized.

I'm very introverted, and I love my time alone. I was raised in a family that moved around a lot, so I never put a lot of myself into friends. The people who I am close with I can count on two hands, and most of those are my family members. The hubby is the same way, so we work really well together. When I DO very occasionally end up going out or while I'm at work, I'm fine with people, easy to get along with, but this comes out of my social bank (as I call it), and once it's empty, I can become kinda nasty until I lock myself alone in a room and recharge.
