Yes, that is true! I dislike many of the flirt options (though I do feel they did a better job this time, not as awkward as some flirting in DA2 or ME). But I assume there's also people out there who actually like them (they do test their games prior to release, don't they). Maybe they want to keep it "simple" at the cost of different approaches/personality. But I really do not want to be too annoyed. The game is pretty big already and we had to wait quite a few years. And I had rather not wait 5 years for the next entry to the series so I'll just keep my list of wishes short...

TBH the flirt options have always been a little...forward in BioWare's games.  It's just become much more noticeable in their recent games because of the voiced protagonist.  I mean, some of the lines you can say to Zev in DA:O would have made me hide under my desk in embarrassment if I'd actually heard them spoken.  DA:I is by far the best incarnation of it, but I think BioWare is still working out the kinks in the voiced protagonist/dialogue wheel system.  Delivery is now extremely important, and when it comes to flirts, the delivery can be really hit-or-miss.

What are some of your headcannons for non-mage Lavellans? I even think mine can barely read. Wouldn't that be something taught only to the First? I don't know if there's any codexes about it, it kind of feels right. I'm just worried that they won't have a lot in common since she's not mage, y'know? What would be her reason in being interested in the Fade? I know she would be interested in knowing about her culture~

Stupidly indepth are my Lavellan headcannons. My non mage Male Lavellan goes like this:

Tristan is a bit of a self insert and heavily influenced by a piece of criticism I have had thrown at me my whole life "You have so much potential but you have no ability to apply yourself."

He is potentially my smartest Inquisitor but is just too lazy to bother. He's far to interested in sex, drugs and rock aaand roooll (or something like that)

His parents couldn't deal with him, his clans could never deal with him. Just one person could, his younger brother.

I ran with the idea that his younger brother started showing signs of magic at around 9 years old (Tristan at 12) and was given up to his aunt's clan (Clan Lavellan) to become her second. Tristan refused to be separated from his brother and his parents didn't put up much of a fight to keep him. So off they went.

Tristan can read and has a strange amount of knowledge and interest in magic because he helped his brother out with his study. It's why he also doesn't fear it (his brother is a bit of a soft touch which is why Tristan is so protective of him) and why he chose to ally with the mages.

He became so close to Solas and Dorian partially because of that familiarity with being close to a mage user. So they became his tutors within the Inquisition. Dorian forced him to sit down and read and Solas gave him all the history and magic lessons. Josie was there to teach him how to be civil

I love the whole Dorian/Solas tutorial team though because of how close they are in Skyhold. Tristan would sit at Solas's desk and be tested by him, while Dorian can stand looking over the railings giving feedback and throwing books at him.

My beautiful man trio. Oh man. Now I want my DLC man trio reunion again.

*weeps*

I don't think it works for me. Lol. I'm an artificer and it never last long enough to get anywhere with my cooldowns. I'm probably doing it wrong.

I ran as an artificer on nightmare with my archer. Spamming leaping shot during the focus ability time made for quick dragon kills so long as you don't fall through the map. This happens, a lot.

What - you don't miss Hawke telling a Anders how "tortured is super sexy" after he opens up to her about his declining mental state???

This game was a lot better but given what we had int he past it's still not the best. There was that one flirt with Solas "What would you do to stop them?" and you're like "anything i had to" and was just like "Whoah girl, relax.  Let's not start promising bloodbaths until the 3rd date".

She loves magic. She's also kind of afraid of it but - in truth - was a bit envious of the First and the Keeper and all the things they could do.  When she met Solas, Vivienne, and Dorian - she was just sort of enthralled by their knowledge.  Since Vivienne and Solas were on the scene first, she was kind of scared to ask Vivienne anything.  Her and Solas were already pretty friendly so she started asking more about the ins/outs of magic.  She just wants to know. She likes knowing how things work...including magic.  He was happy to share it because she was so excited. Like Dagna.

Yeah Solas just seems like he would be excited for anybody to ask him questions about what he knows. I can only imagine an excited Lavellan like Dagna talking to him. That is just the cutest thing. "I'll teach you to hunt Hahren, and you can tell me more stories about Arlathan."

I'm curious, does anyone know at about what age the Dalish start  getting "trained"? Like, at what age do they start training the children to become hunters, or train with the craftsperson etc? Did we ever get any info on that?

Not if I know, but due to their short on hands situation, I bet ASAP will be the likely answer.

Why did you choose to make Falon'Din and Dirthamen look like that?

See this is how I also see my Lavellan's relationship with Solas and Dorian. Dorian just seems like he would give two ducks and jump in the conversation from above. I adore him for that. Indeed my male Lavellan is part of such "beautiful man trio". Best trio by the way.

DLC cannot come soon enough. *weeps with you*

Oh my god, some of the Anders flirts were just insane.  As in, the two of them sound legitimately like crazy people, especially the "I would drown us in blood to keep you safe" conversation.  Though I suppose that fits the overall tone of the romance  :P

Mass Effect was still the worst, but I kind of liked it in a so-bad-it's-good sort of way.  ManShep trying to flirt with Miranda is still a highlight of that game for me because he's just so very, very bad at it.

Edit for ToP: a very lovely Solas render

By the way, do you get the whole flirt-comment thing with Solas if you didn't pick his first romance dialogue options? ((I mean the first romance where you say I'd never let anyone hurt you, and then later on there is the second filrt where he sorta hits on you? about your class abilities.)) Because I kinda want to start their *romance* awkwardly in the Fade-scene where she doesn't know It's not a dream.

sigh deep sigh.

I did not flirt with him at all and could not kiss him in the Fade. Another time I picked the first flirt option without following up on it and, again, no Fade kiss.
But that's just two experiences.

Aww I love this headcannon. I've always liked the fact of the Inquisitor having siblings. One of the things I miss from DA2. I think it adds more weight to what you do because you have a family to protect type of thing. It's hard to tell if it's a gameplay mechanic or if the Dalish and commoner dwarves do learn how to read/write. I think it's safe to say it depends from clan to clan. To be honest it does look like we do quite a bit of writing (letter correspondence and research) in our room so maybe it's safe to say the Inquisitor simply knows how to read/write.

This is a really good cannon lol. I would read a whole story with this setting. That last part was cute and I can see that making sense in the story.  :D
I guess clan Lavellan seemed more interested in humans in comparison to other clans we've seen, so I can see a hunter being in charge of trading and the like, picking up the language to read and write.

Well, thank you! I have worked very hard on her backstory, as I plan on chronicling her adventures... because I need to, for my sanity. She was not really in charge of trading, she more or less just tagged along with the people who were and more or less went "please, sir, may I trade this paper thing with words in it for one I havent read 12 times already?" She has been doing it since she was a kid so, as the clan travelled the same path year in and year out, I think some of the merchants kind of got to know her a little, and she was always pleasant, so why not, right? She's a bit of a solitary elf, too. Since her father was distant, she often also comes across as aloof, though if one were so inclined to win her heart (Solas) they might find that she doesn't actually mean to keep people at arm's distance, it's just something she picked up from her father, and that she's actually pretty warm and friendly once you get past the snark.

The choice of attire mainly. And why so flamboyant?

It's your art though, and if that's just your preference then that's your preference. They just stick out to me because the others look pretty normal, then these two out of the others, one's showing nipples, the other has this pose that reminds me of Prince :P

I've worked out my Lavellan's family, what she was like as a child, even an Arlathvhen where she briefly crossed paths with Feynriel while he was with Clan Sabrae.  I definitely have a problem.

Unfortunately, it's hard to work her family members into any fanfiction except the disjointed 60-odd pages of Lavellan as Fen'Harel's queen.  She's in the south, doing her Inquisitorial thing, and they're all in Wycome.

I'm in the middle of my second playthrough romancing Cullen to get away from all this wolfish sadness.
So here I was- having a beautiful romantically cutscene with Cullen by a lake and suddenly the infamous humming of the Love Theme popped up and I literally fell in depression again. Gone was the romantic scenery, gone was Cullen's sweet talk and the only thing I've heard was the echo of
"Maybe in another world.."
Srsly? He ruined everything.... I BLAME YOU BALD ELF!!!

Shiitt, Really? I wasn't going to flirt with him yet until Skyhold because I HATE the "anything I had too" line. I thought none of the romances cemented until Skyhold?.. I just did -alot- of stuff after I talked to him, do I have to reload? or.. basically remake my character.

oh lordd.

This happened on to me on the Trevelyan I made specifically to escape Solavellan hell. *Laughs.*  Thedas Love Theme has pretty much become my "Ouch, Solas Theme" instead. Though my romance with Cullen inadvertently ended up having the potential for tragedy too; I chose the Templar specialization.  :crying:

So I tried to make my asian-dalish-elf tonight.. She came out too cutesy. WELL I HOPE YOU STILL LIKE HER SOLAS.

I skip the first flirt because my girl's a mage and despite the mark she doesn't feel safe among these Andrastian humans and she's not going to lie about it to the only other elf in her circle of acquaintances.

But I'm too paranoid not to take at least one flirt before Haven gets snowed and the most natural one is when he hits on you first.

Heh. Mine's the type that would've gone nuts in a dress. She likes having full mobility. How're you supposed to climb a trellis while wearing a dress? :P

What about a dress equipped with anachronistic velcro (or snaps)?

Imagine:

The Inquisitor comes across a body in Halamshiral.

(Cue dramatic music--mood lighting)

Suddenly she rips open the bodice of her (really awesome) gown, revealing her battle (under) armor.

Vivienne: UGH. You just ruined the only halfway decent thing you owned. You ripped your bodice!!

Inquisitor: Don't worry. It's made to be put back together--seamlessly. It's like the jack-knife of gowns. So the bodice can be ripped open again . . . [winks at Solas] and again . . .  and again.

Dorian: Well, that was certainly exciting. I want one.
