The note also says "We'll have to find another Archdemon". :)

Which begs the question, what the hell were they doing? It doesn't sound like a Warden murder-pack to me, more like Wardens Screwing With Forces Beyond Their Ken.

Maybe they're desperate for joining-blood?   Now that my understanding of backstory is a little more complete, the fact that a drop of Archdemon blood seems to be required for the Joining is incredibly strange to me.  Not in terms of the ritual, or what I think they're doing blood-magic-wise, but in terms of getting the order of the Grey Wardens started in the first place.  I mean... how did that happen?  Getting a huge batch of blood from the Archdemon you just killed, sure.  Not a problem.  Makes sense.  Getting it during the first Blight, though?  While Dumat was very much alive?  Enough to join a full force of Wardens?

That's tough to wrap my mind around.

Do you have to use the Grey Warden treaties to get Blackwall quest?

At least that's probably more appropriate than Sandal? Love the guy, but that just feels... a little wrong. He feels perpetually underage and I'm not sure if he'd be a consenting adult. And even if so, it'd feel a little like Catherine the Great and her first husband, and that ended in an heir out of necessity, a couple seduced soldier's, a military coup, and the husband in a casket. Catherine was a woman after my own heart. <3

... That's a disturbing realization. I'm not a cold, calculating woman, I swear! I just REALLY like women who took the world by the balls and twisted. Like Tomyris.

I don't play as the Russians in Civilization. That way, if I'm neighbors with Catherine and I get backstabbed or thrown to the wolves in general, I can take it as gentle flirtation from one ruthless powermonger to another rather than just me sucking at Civilization:lol:

Would Wu Zetian be your cup of tea as well?  ;)

Queen Isabelle of Castille sent out Columbus to find more world and more dangle-bags to twist.  :o

Empress Theodora dived into the world of Byzantine politics and came out with the other players' eyes in her hands.

Is there any notes/lore anywhere that says exactly WHY the Wardens were like "hey u know what would be a good idea" "whot" "Lets drink this blighted dragon blood it will makes us supah strong" "k" ?

You're kidding, right?

She'd pull out the thesis she wrote for First Enchanter Irving back in the day and begin explaining it to you and you'd both start jumping up and down and frothing in excitement.

The wedding clothes would include tin-foil hats. :P

Now you're actively making me sad that this she's not an LI...

In other inappropriate-crush news, I had a horrific fangirl moment meeting Genetivi for the first time during the Haven part of my DA:O run-through yesterday.  There was a definite "oh my god, it's really him!!  *internal squealing*" reaction I had to tamp down pretty hard.

Seriously, the guy going into ToSA is almost as adorable as Solas in the Fade.  ^w^   He's just so damn excited to be there.

Dumat was slain numerous times by pre-Grey Warden Tevinter armies. That's how they learned about the respawn ability in the first place. :) Being Tevinter, they naturally collected the blood of their slain god in celebration to use as a spice for punch, only to learn that Dumat had just burned another city to the ground. They stockpile it, and over time develop the Joining Ritual properly when they gather at Weisshaupt and form the Wardens, pooling all of their knowledge.

But yeah, I imagine it'd run dry. I can just imagine the Wardens carefully letting someone non-Wardeny deliver the killing blow, just so they can get extra blood.

EDIT: I also flipped my **** when I met Genetivi. I went into full fanboy mode.

The wiki says that the Grey Wardens can use the blood of greater darkspawn and just magically alter it with a magic ritual to be used in place of archdemon blood for the Joining.  Because yeah, the whole "Only a grey warden can kill an archdemon, but a grey warden can only become a grey warden with the blood of a dead archdemon" starts to resemble that age old question of "which came first, the Egg or the Hen'Harel" territory.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Caddius!

AHAAAAA.  Thanks!  That makes sense.  I thought the Wardens' appearance was the first significant victory the mortal races had, but if Tevinter managed to take Dumat down a few times, there's plenty of dragon juice to go around.

Also, I totally restart Civ games if I spawn directly next to Cesar or Catherine.  Those two are monsters.  MONSTERS, I tell you.

From what I remember, most of the notes/ codex entries on how that concept came about were during the adventure through the Nightmare.

I remember that mostly talking about vague articles of the founding of the grey wardens, but nothing specifically mentioning the first joining?

You just had to bring Sherlock into it.

I just finished Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments (the computer game), and now I am in serious withdrawal.

You guys know that Solas' voice actor played Dr. Watson in Sherlock Holmes Asylum, right?

I got you guys covered. :D

7295: The Grey Wardens are founded at Weisshaupt Fortress in the Anderfels, dedicated to wiping out the darkspawn wherever they should rise. The organization is formed primarily of veterans from the countless battles against the darkspawn. They maintain communications within the Imperium and strike quickly wherever the darkspawn appear, quickly erecting fortresses everywhere and receiving tithes and supplies from all lands.

The idea of taking in their blood is endorsed by Nakiri of the Donarks, whose people drink their enemies blood to absorb their power. This was likely backed by the elves offering knowledge of Arlathan, and the Tevinter magisters there. This was the First Joining.

As a 1/4 Spaniard, my love of Isabelle of Castille should surprise... literally no one. As should the fact that my family originates from La Mancha, despite their 300 year sojourn in Andalucia.

Oh, oh! And Hildegard of Bingen. While she didn't use her vagina to rule nations, getting the POPE to come to YOU on religious matters as a woman in the middle ages? That's incredible. And should her visions have been a play for political power within the Catholic church? Utterly brilliant.

Empress Theodora was a BADASS. Yes, these women. ALL OF THESE WOMEN. At times I worry for my Inquisitor, that I am slowly but surely sending her down the path of a cunningly brutal pragmatic politician and thereby mild sociopathy, but meh. Bitches get stuff done. And history has no choice but to remember it.

Hildegard! YES! Hildegard and Teresa of Avila are my favorites.

I listen to Hildegard's music when writing.

Batter my heart, indeed.

Is brother Genitivi still...alive? I remember being able to kill him in Origins but never doing it. He might've gotten blown up at the conclave, but I hope he's still around.

Along with others, I've noticed a trend in CKII that your female characters tend to be much more memorable than your male ones. And stable, too. There was even a thread about how their Empire lasted for two hundred years, prosperous, under Empresses, but everytime a man became Emperor everything went to hell.

Of course, this is just because any female ruler who survives her first few years in a position of power in this game, what with all the opinion malus and general medieval misogyny, well...the lady's got stats;) I'd like to see the Duke of Berry try to get something past my 29 Intrigue score.

EDIT: I once named my Irish Count's daughter after my very Irish SO as a joke to make her laugh. But then disease swept through and killed my son and heir Cailan and his brother Alistair (What?  ^_^ ) and she became Countess.

Six hours and a forged Kingdom of Ireland later, my SO started getting spam texts about running for President.

Yeah, I was wondering for a while if the position of Fen'Harel was a post/ mantle given to the person most appropriate to it at the time (hence his mosaics being faceless, it was a role played by one person at a time, but not one person for all time). I'm still open to the possibility since the orb in the dev files is labeled Mythal's orb and it appears as if it was entrusted to him/ put under his care thus becoming "his" while the foci of someone else.

Kind of like the Arbiter from Halo?

Hopefully the badass one and not the one that got his ass handed to him in Halo Wars...
