Second: I have not replayed it in a long time but there was a reason why we had to open his prison whether we meant to "use" Corypheus or not. Only, I forgot. Anyway. The Wardens hat kept Corypheus imprisoned because they thought you should not kill him in case he could be the key to ending the Blights. It's very much like that demon army, really. (Or the base in ME2.) "If only we could control him or extract his power.... we do not know how. Yet. But we might later. Let's put him on ice for now." I might get this wrong, but this is how I understood it when playing DA2.

The writers had forced us into two things in that DLC which I did not like: opening the prison for dubious reasons (which I forgot) and not questioning the change in Larius. But the rest I was willing to put up with.

LOL yea, as did I ^

It was the barrier. Anyway, as I understood it, they sealed him up because they couldn't kill him, and only decided later they could use him to end blights, partly because he was influencing their minds. Not terribly different from here in DA I.

Anyway I forgot about the barrier so it doesn't matter.

Also on the subject of Hawke... yea it wasn't his fault totally....

But.... Corypheus would have stayed sealed unless Hawke's blood was utilized to free Cornflakes with the key....

....

....

Sooo..... Yea. The real problem is that Cornflakes was able to call both wardens and darkspawn to his location, so even if you cleared the place and kept the wardens out, they'd eventually be drawn to it. What should have been done is someone should have started a special sect of wardens without the taint specifically to guard that *******. If the wardens of old could do no better than seal him, what makes you think you and your band of misfits could?

Call it hindsight, but it still seems to me like at least part of this was a lapse in judgement. Though I'm sure many a hero would say "Na **** that! It's my destiny, I can do this!" And, he/she did technically. They should have questioned themselves on why the wardens bothered sealing the dude instead of just killing him though. This is the wardens after all. Since when do they take prisoners.

Is there some sort of perverse joke I am missing as to why some people refer to Corypheus as Cornflakes? Does Sera use that one at some point?

Na, I just started called him that randomly  I hated his real name and was kinda disappointed when I found out he was the big bad when achievements info was first leaked, so I started calling him Cornflakes. Silly, I know.

I assume someone here made it up for the simpler people among us who find "Co-ry-phe-us" too difficult to remember.

Is brother Genitivi still...alive? I remember being able to kill him in Origins but never doing it. He might've gotten blown up at the conclave, but I hope he's still around.

I got a codex entry in DAI saying that he killed himself, but not sure if that happens in every game or if it's dependent on what you did with the Ashes temple in Origins. Sad. I liked old Ferd.

Nooo, Washington is great and all. It's done so much for... the world... like... Sleepless in Seattle, right? Huge hit! (I'm sorry, I have never been there, I know nothing.)

Soo... basically... Anders blew up the Chantry, finally triggering the necessary change throughout Thedas? ;) I know you probably did not mean it that way, but now that you said it... true. It was a horrible act but it at least broke the status quo, forcing a change that might help improve things (one way or the other).

Washington's a nice enough state. I don't get around much, but I'm content with it.  I know we get mistaken for Canadians occasionally.

As for Anders:

Anders/Vengeance's whole plan revolved around Meredith.

An apostate mage blows up a Chantry, including the Revered Mother of Kirkwall. This is an act of terror by a mage. This is bad. This could lead to retaliation against mages by the general populace.

But he's not dealing with Knight-Commander Greagoir. I think Greagoir would notice that Orsino was as aghast at the explosion as he was, and that Anders is openly saying he's a lone agent/one of the few remaining Resistance members. He would execute Anders, and tighten security at the Circle. The College of Enchanters would argue and discuss this situation to death, but the status quo would remain.

But Anders isn't dealing with Ser Barris the Great or Greagoir the Totally Awesome/

He's been dealing with Knight-Commander Meredith the Batshit Insane Jerkass Who Doesn't Place Blame Properly.

A mage blows up the Chantry.

That's what Meredith sees. The class of dangerous people that it's her duty to protect have struck a blow against the establishment, and murdered a personal friend of hers. There is no way she is not retaliating with pure insanity; Annulling the Circle for the actions of a Mage who was, at no point, in that Circle. An apostate who escaped from the Ferelden Circle and the Grey Wardens both.

But Annul she does.

Anders figures he's going to die going in. And he isn't bothered. In fact, he'd prefer it that way. Then Justice would finally shut up, and he could stop worrying about losing control. By tricking Meredith into Annuling the Circle of Magi in Kirkwall, Anders forces every Mage in Thedas to realize just how tenuous their position is, how much power the Templars have over them, and how cruelly illogical the blame game is played. Anders sacrifices all the mages of Kirkwall in order to start the fires of a Revolution.

Sorry to rant a little, but I'm still torn between admiration and horror for just how well Anders' plotted everything out. I would have preferred that the reforms didn't happen that way, but, well...I don't think peaceful reforms were possible when the Templars were that corrupted. (Not that the mages were much better. God, Kirkwall is about as screwed up as...as the average CKII playthrough, actually. :D )

The Wardens imprisoned Corypheus to study him, as other Magisters were active and causing chaos. They realized they didn't have a chance at killing him, so they tried control, Cerberus style. Ten years later, they gave up on both projects, and just wanted to seal him away and hope his ambient magic voodoo didn't mess with that Emerius city nearby.  But yeah, I think Hawke just went in there to see why the hell the Carta was after them, then one thing led to another...

Flabbadence: Yeah, the small realms tend to be slow at first. But have you ever read this wonderfully insane Let's Play? http://forum.paradox...Doom-Abyssinia

Also props to RoyalRey for the sketches.  Damn fine time to run out of likes.

In light of the discussions earlier about succession crises and chemistry puns. :P

"The only thing known to go faster than ordinary light is monarchy, according to the philosopher Ly Tin Wheedle. He reasoned like this: You can't have more than one king, and tradition demands that there is no gap between kings, so when a king dies the succession must therefore pass to the heir instantaneously. Presumably, he said, there must be some elementary particles-kingons, or possibly queons--that will do this job, but of course succession sometimes fails if, in mid-flight, they strike an anti-particle, or republicon."-Terry Pratchett.

That's usually the case. I'll have 2-3 hours to kill for drawing before I need to prep for school.

Hi everyone :) I haven't been keeping up very well with the thread for the past couple of weeks as RL has been hectic (please let it stop snowing!) but I've still been playing DA fanatically.

There is something in my latest PT that I'm hoping to get some other opinions/confirmation on... In this clip, would the smokey blue eyes of Abelas - which look very much the same as Solas' in the Flemeth scene - be the result of the geas?

At the 20s mark:

Apologies in advance if this has already been discussed

So easily susceptible human urges?

If you were a gym rat, are you the type to use the gym's mirrors to stare at a toned guy's butt/abs lifting weights or would you make direct eye contact while he's lifting?

I believe the smoky blue eyes represents ELVEN GLORY/power of the Creators. Perhaps Mythal in particular. :)

LOL why didn't Abelas just pull the drain? LOL.

Seriously, a drain would have been convenient. And smart.

I'd be real nervous to flush away Mythal's Well. If she's dead, Abelas is destroying one of the last remnants of the goddess he was sworn to, the thing he's spent his lifetime protecting. If she's alive, she'd be weakened. And pissed. I can't blame him.
