I did that too! My lovely Mage Hawke and Fenris had a sweet friendship that became romantic! Would have been awesome to have that with Solas. I also liked romancing Cullen as a Mage. It made it more interesting if you knew about his past and played a Mage in DAO.
Yep! I also did that with Cullen, and it was adorable. I needed that warm, fluffy romance after the way the Solas one ended. Happy ending!
I was also thinking back to my Origins mage when I did it, too. LOL.

I think a great DA2 style rivalmance would be Sassy Iran and the Roman Empire.
Rome's had this great mutual hatred and contempt thing going on with Parthia for a few centuries, ever since Parthia broke that poor sweet old man Crassus's heart. (Gods, I keep cracking myself up.) But all of a sudden Parthia's gone, and instead there's this strangely charming but, y'know, intensely ambitious guy named Sasanian. And they keep coming to blows over Mesopotamia and Syria, and they keep falling in love for a few years, but then the fights happen again and it just hurts so good.

The, uh, story doesn't end well once Caliph Jr. shows up.

I also ship Qun/Rivain. I'm pretty much convinced it's canon.
...oh, right, this is the Solas thread.

Omg I'm crying(from laughter) because this would be so sad. It would shatter my heart to bitty bits. I WOULD LOVE IT.

YOU NUKED THE THREAD COLONEL. i just like how fluffy it is around here. so everyone is just trying to be civil and it comes off passive aggressive which makes people uncomfortable. some people ONLY pop up for this one argument too so it's clear it hits a sore spot and i don't want anyone to feel like their opinion is being abused(see fluffiness).
This is SUPER TAME though: I do miss EvE forum fights sometimes. They were hilariously brutal and awful.

Yeah Cullen's romance was pretty sweet, but he deserved it after all the torment he endured in his past. He needed love. Solas though, as was brought up in another topic, seems to have absorbed Mythal (unless it's the other way around) and whoever drank from the Well is bind to Mythal. I think a female Elf Inquisitor who romanced him and drank from it might make DLC or a sequel pretty interesting if he took Mythal's essence.

UGH. Him an OxidantsHappen would be the best nerd comedy routine pretty much ever.
I grew up surrounded by punsters, chemistry nerds, and Terry Pratchett. It doesn't show.
EDIT: Checking the forum during turn times in Rome II, playing as Parthia. Crack joke about Crassus.
Read the description for Mercenary Parthian Cataphracts. "Perhaps if Crassus had used some of his fabulous wealth to hire these mighty warriors, he wouldn't have had that kerfuffle at Carrhae."

No, that would make Solas' character unrealistic to the point of cheese. An elven god is not going to fall for a Qunari or dwarf or human babe. I mean, if people want to ship it in fanfiction or whatever, that's fine- that's what fanfiction is for. I would have been interested to see how Solas responds to a non-elf flirting with him, but I don't imagine it would go any further than some chuckles and polite refusals. I don't want to be too emphatic since a good storyteller can do a lot of things, but I think Solas' character would lose a lot of meaning for me if that were the case. It'd be eyeroller territory.I see this as people settling in other words, when we could have more. If Solas had a romance with a human woman, would that not be a win for everyone since you could see another side of him? It doesn't even have to necessarily go well. The race thing could come up as a problem, like the dalish thing was for Sera. That was realistic for her character and this would be for Solas.
Anyway I think the friendship bonds are just as meaningful, if not more so, especially for someone like Solas or Morrigan.
I was happy about my happy ending for about five minutes, then I thought... this was so boring. Absolutely nothing unexpected happened. I liked the non-drama in Garrus' romance, though, so I think it's just that I find Cullen and Trevelyan both duller than a sack of rocks.Yep! I also did that with Cullen, and it was adorable. This is totally how the Solavellan romance will end if she drank from the Well.
Solas: "Ma Vhenan, I can't be with you for you are bound to me through Mythal's essence and I cannot see you lower yourself to me and follow my every whim....woe to me." *Solas then begins to sob and frolics off with him waving a hankie at the IQ*

I don't really know why people must argue about this anyway. It so strongly depends on your point of view and how much time you are willing to invest in the game.
I personally have no problem with playing a particular race or even gender to romance a particular person (or miss out). But that game is pretty long. And I really do not want to be forced to put up with mage gameplay for 100+ hours to romance, e.g., Cullen.
If they had placed such a gate it would be nice for the lore and people who like to play mage. But for the others it's pretty mean. Combat-wise DA is not the best game around. Where it shines is the universe and are the character interactions, including romance. So romance is at least one third of my reasons for playing it. Take the romance away because you only leave me two choices I cannot put up with (Blackwall, Iron Bull) would really diminish my gaming joy. BUT I also do not want to play 100+ hours of a class I do not enjoy.
But why is that such an issue? Why should BioWare punish those players who only enjoy playing a warrior in their free time but like Cullen best, who maybe never played a DA before (of will after)? Fans can usually always head-canon if they wish. If needed BioWare should introduce some settings menu where fans can choose whether to play by class restrictions or not. But I see no point in setting up so many boundaries when romance options are so few and so strongly typed already (the brooding warrior, the soft mage, the lone wolf, the tortured liar etc.). That's sacrificing gameplay value for a big audience in favor of a few fans who take issue in some character being open for different races/genders/classes.
I understand that opinion might not be so popular, but despite being a DA fan I can also see it as somebody who simply enjoys gaming.
That's the other side of me. The one that thinks "I don't have time for this sh*t!" I have no idea if I'll ever complete my second or third PT. I sooo want to do certain romances, but it's SO time-consuming to replay just for that. Then again, I'd have the same problem without race/gender restrictions. I'm sure there are many people who are not obsessed about DA and only play it once. So if I had to pick just one romance, I'd be happy about a free buffet, I guess. I'd liked to have romanced Cassandra as a female inquisitor then (since Dorian for both sexes makes no sense whatsoever, I declare defeat there *g*).
So I get both positions on this matter.

Though my female IQ was human, she had a very deep bond with Solas. I found it was more satisfying than a romance, though that would have really been interesting and fun to try (kind of ending like Anders), but their connection was very beautiful, especially his parting words to her when the final battle was won.

At the point where Britain is shocked to realize he has feelings for America, he goes into panic mode and goes to visit France to find her in the middle of 'visitations' with Italy. And Austria. And Spain.
So he runs back to America. He thinks it's a little weird that his chill daughter Canada is best friends with Lady Liberty, but whatever. It's a love story with dropped monocles, guns, fireworks, spilled tea, and arguments about Doctor Who and the War of 1812.
(Yes I did just make an orgy joke about the Italian Wars. Popemancing and Gallic pride, that's how I roll.

It's a lot different- I was talking about an Andrastian Tal Vashoth. And if Solas doesn't consider Dalish his people, he's going to fall for a human...?Also, remember that moment he had with a human inquisitor that made you uncomfortable? The dalish aren't his people to him.

My canon Warden is an Andrastian elf mage who's Alistair's mistress, so I'm not against human-elf. Solavellan is one case where the gating works really well, though. I think a dwarf romance should be gated, too, but that's because I'm hoping that we get as much dwarf-specific content as we got elven in DAI.

It's really not tbh.
First point, if he fell for a dalish when they're not his people by his own words, he can do so for a human as well. (not saying I want it, as this point for me is about racial gating in general, which brings me to)
Second point, as Cass shows, racial gating doesn't bring more content, how much the devs decides to give to certain races does. Dwarves can still get a lot of content specific to them without it being gated. If the other romances don't get as much, fine. If they don't work out as well, also fine. But the gating isn't necessary for any of it.
It's fine that he's gated, same as it's fine that he isn't gay. I'm just saying the argument that it allows for more is incorrect.

Oh meant to say Addai, while we may disagree over Solas/Trev pairings, I am a big fan of your "The Arrangement" fanfic. Love Loghain. Seriously. He's probably one of DA:O's most original characters. I can't imagine how much effort went into such a long series. I'm struggle with serious procrastination issues when I get past six chapters. So muchos kudos for such a great story.
