First point, if he fell for a dalish when they're not his people by his own words, he can do so for a human as well. (not saying I want it, as this point for me is about racial gating in general, which brings me to)
 
Second point, as Cass shows, racial gating doesn't bring more content, how much the devs decides to give to certain races does. Dwarves can still get a lot of content specific to them without it being gated. If the other romances don't get as much, fine. If they don't work out as well, also fine. But the gating isn't necessary for any of it.
 
It's fine that he's gated, same as it's fine that he isn't gay. I'm just saying the argument that it allows for more is incorrect.

Oh meant to say Addai, while we may disagree over Solas/Trev pairings, I am a big fan of your "The Arrangement" fanfic. Love Loghain. Seriously. He's probably one of DA:O's most original characters. I can't imagine how much effort went into such a long series. I'm struggle with serious procrastination issues when I get past six chapters. So muchos kudos for such a great story.

Why thank you. A lot of work and some tears went into that, you're right. I was just kind of... gripped. I had no real interest in Loghain prior to writing it.

The problem with Cass is that it feels like the qunari and dwarves should get specific content with them which they don't. I don't think Solas should have that with a human. Ignore that they are human. That should be brought up, and if it gets in the way of the romance, then good. That is realistic for him.

 

The elven romance wouldn't be effected regardless anyway. Like I said before, if they can't handle the Solas romance and make the human one seem good as well (not necessarily better or equal mind you) then so be it.

I understand it's not a very intense quest or anything, I just wondered if anyone had interesting dialogue.

Yes, it's fair. But for all the problems Solas has with modern elves, he has more with humans. Have you heard his banters with Varric?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. It's just common sense that the narrower a romance arc is, the more they can do with the resources they have. Even animations. Mike Laidlaw said it at PAX- if Solas' romance hadn't been gated, there would be no Solas romance.

Well yes it would- see above. But supposing that resources weren't an issue, you're saying there should be no acknowledgement of the PC being human, or the opposite? I'm not clear what you mean here.

  Yes, she is very feisty, take charge, she's genuinely strong and not the super skinny chick that probably couldn't lift a pencil yet still kills grown men. She's very authentic. She's not there for you to get turned on (I do anyway ) She's there to do a job. Scars, short hair, realistic armor, all shows she doesn't give a **** about what people think of her appearance, so long as she does her job.

 

And I love the divine thing, even though it hurts to let her go. I have to take it now because she made the decision that this is what she wants to do. And the only way you can keep her from doing it is by not supporting her, even if she agrees that yes, there are other ways to help. I feel obligated to allow her to take the path she chose, because that's who she is. Otherwise, she can't because I didn't allow her to, and that feels wrong to me. It would be one thing if she says "You're right, I won't do it now even if they want me to", but that's not what she says. Like Solas, she has her own motivations and goals, doesn't revolve around me. And that makes her awesome.

I.... don't experience physical attraction myself, so even though I recognise that others do, I find it particularly difficult to imagine in Solas! To extend on my last post, we are speaking of someone who spends a lot of time dream-walking in the Fade... a place malleable, reflective of our will. Perhaps the limitations of what the game can display for us means that we only ever see Solas and the Inquisitor appearing as they do in the "material" world... but theoretically, one experienced in manipulating the Fade would be able to shape their own appearance as they desire. And we know that Solas is entirely capable of engaging in a sex life in the Fade. This is... part of the reasoning behind why, to me, the physical body is largely irrelevant in the case of Solas. 

 

We must give major Kudos to Weekes for managing to write a character and romance which can be so openly interpreted, and enjoyable to so many different people! What skill!

I've heard them, and wouldn't a human romance be his chance to see a different side since he's shown he doesn't know a lot about humans? It's not like people don't do the real life equivalent. Not all of them last, but this romance doesn't last either. Not all of them have to end for the same reason.

Final comment on it, since we're not going to agree:

 

If they do this in the future, my only hope is that they give men or women, whoever it's for, enough other options to satisfy those who might not like the race it's gated for.

 

I also hope they don't throw this romance away or dismiss it with a few dialogue points because of the smaller audience. That would be sad.

Well as I already said, to me that stretches the character to unbelievability. But I know you don't even think he's an elf, so your view makes sense for you.

You're not being real here. If they have X zots and have to animate for only one race and gender, all those zots go into that one. If they have to cut that pie into four or five or six...

They're never going to please everyone, and they shouldn't try. I'm really glad they took the story risks they did this time, even though it means the Iron Bull or Dorian or Sera romance isn't something I'll play. I like that the characters are who they are, though.

I am being real, if they didn't waste all that time adding all the filler and stupid fetch stuff in this game, they could have fitted more resources for the romances. I'm also not saying they need to please everyone. I also like that Solas is who he is, someone that doesn't want to bang a human and has his prejudices. That's fine. I just don't agree with the idea that the racial gating is why you guys got more elven specific stuff in the romance. That can be there whether he liked banging humans too or not.

 

That's all I'm saying. You know me, the last thing I care about is forced inclusiveness. As long as they keep giving more options besides the gated race I'm fine, though I will indeed be disappointed if they make a gated dwarven romance. But like the people complaining about male options, I will just have to suck it up.

Oh god, lol. My opinion of that is whether it was abusive or not, abusive relationships are real and they do happen. I'm glad it's there because I don't play dark fantasy games to feel fluffy inside all the time.
