So many feelings about "The Swan Princess".   I kind of would want them in something rock-y.  I don't know why.  Giton got in my head with Solas as David Bowie and now it's just lodged there.  Like can't you just imagine him singing in that same desperate way i.e. "Heroes", "Five Years"...ugh that entire album.  I can...

Same here! Our VHS for "The Swan Princess" was played mercilessly when I was a child, as were the copies of The Last Unicorn and Flight of Dragons. The music hits me with such nostalgia now. But David Bowie? Yes, please.   The exact vocal nuance you speak of, I hear it now, ungh.

Wasn't there also a fanart of Solas/Lavellan in Labyrinth cosplay a while ago? That film was my Bowie initiation as a child.

On my Lave, I never had BW in the part when collecting his Artifacts - never got it to trigger, same with my Brother I believe?

So. I don't have the pleasure of pretty screenshots because I can't take screenshots on my Xbone...but I took one on my phone. This is Mahanon Lavellan. He is a skilled archer and a rather skeptical Dalish. He questions the existence of the elven gods and is curious about other religions and beliefs, mainly the Qun (blasphemy I know). His involvement with the conclave came after he and his fellow hunters were attacked by abominations created by a rebel mage ritual gone wrong. Since then he has been squimish about magic and mages. He is very blunt and harsh about his opinions and doesn't take **** from anybody. He's cranky and can be mean, but maybe if someone were to reach out to him he may soften a little bit (I'm looking at you Dorian).

I just found out recently that it was possessed. I had my suspicions but it ran away so fast that I guessed killing it wasn't an option. Then I tried it in the fence and... yea. I reloaded though. Took the advice I figured Solas would give.

More fangirling over animation behind the spoiler that isn't as on topic as the current discussion. Spoilered to keep the thread focused on the bugs!

Girrllll there's another Don Bluth "prince" out there. Dimitri. Also. Ginger. Oh! There's one I hadn't thought of At the Beginning. I mean, I guess the story does start and end at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. But the drama of their relationship isn't complete as of yet so we'll have to wait and see if that's an appropriate fit.

 

But I'm weird. My favorite animated romances are Dimitri, Tombo (from Kiki's Delivery Service), Prince Phillip, and Flynn Rider/ Eugene. Yeah, yeah, Prince Phillip falls in love with a woman he just met. I get it, that doesn't happen. And if it does, rein in the horses and get some counseling. However, out of all of Disney's princes, he's the one who actually does stuff. Like slays a freaking dragon does stuff. The majority of other Disney princes are either dudes in distress or relatively inactive in terms of the narrative. Phillip is neither and incredibly proactive within the story. Just wish one of the fairies swapped out one of Aurora's gifts of beauty or song in favored of a brilliant mind. But that's my personal bias showing. I also really love Eyvind Earle's artistic direction for that film. More than words can describe.

I do love Beast's gift of his library to Belle. That's like the most romantic gesture I can imagine.     Also the book Beauty is amazing and I can't believe I lost it when I moved out to grad school.

I could probably throw Howl in there, but.. Tombo. Ugh... or Haku. No, no. Tombo. *shakes fist* TOMBO. 

I have SUCH a soft spot for "Sleeping Beauty" because of the art.  I LOVE IT TOO MUCH.  The BluRay of that movie just does it an incredible amount of justice. It's a must buy. 

 

I think my favorite animated romances - Tangled(still amazed I loved that movie...im pretty much in the camp of "After Hercules, wtf happened Disney"), Spirited Away, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust(I will never not love the vampire love-spaceship and the way Meier Link says "Chaaaaarrrlotte")

Like the inquisitor comes in all heroic to save the halla from wolves, and when the dust settles, she's looking all proud, only to see that they're all dead. And iron bull's already salting the carcasses for eating.

Which - if we can all agree - DA:I was really just Dragon Age: Cole Must Approve 100% of the time.  I was like 'Whatever Solas...eat dirt. I'm keeping the Wardens" but when Cole Disapproved... it was reload time.

This is so funny because I just got into a discussion about animated film with a friend, and she mentioned Anastasia. My Demetri crush was intense. I had almost forgotten it was Bluth though; so many of his films were so memorable it's sometimes easy to forget they're not Disney. Kind of wish Disney shared his love of ginger princes though. We never seem to get many. My absolute favorite Disney prince is Beast though, for the reason you mention. Give me a library and I'm won!

Prince Phillip, yes! I like that the princesses get more focus, yet it would be nice to have an Action!Prince sometimes. That whole dragon fight was beautifully animated, at that. But I could kiss you from bringing up Studio Ghibli! The dynamic between the heroes and heroines in their films are almost always perfect. My favorite of their films is actually Whisper of the Heart, where both leads have to build themselves up equally to have a truly happy relationship. Haku and Tombo though, they are so sweet it aches. I actually still weep at the point where Haku and Chihiro are falling together.

Mm! If you kill it and come back a bit later, it also respawns. Apparently demons love rams in the Hinterlands.

I ****** hate the halla. Trying to round up that "golden" halla was a nightmare. Wanted to rip the horns off and sell them.

It was mostly in jest.  I made the decisions how I wanted to. I felt bad though but...c'est la vie.
