Hello, thread. Long time no see (totally my fault). I have some fairly coherent thoughts today.
Edit: Spoilers abound in this post, if anyone still cares about that.
Reasons why I think that whatever Solas plans to do will probably only benefit the "true" elvhen:
- He seems to have been set up as a sympathetic (and hopefully redeemable) antagonist, so whatever he decides to do would have to be fairly objectively bad in the eyes of any inquisitor; not just the non-elven ones.
- I'm not a fan of the "I made this mess so it's mine alone to clean up" trope. For starters, I don't think Solas would be that dumb. I think it's likely that he left Lavellan in part because he thinks that she will find his actions objectionable and try to stop him from reaching his goals. Perhaps he is also afraid that he might let her.
- What he plans will likely affect the whole world. My favourite theory (with plenty of ingame foreshadowing to draw upon) is that he means to unite the physical world with the fade. Beings that have lived in such a world (immortal elvhen) would be able to adapt without trouble. For everyone else, the world would likely become a terrifying and dangerous (though fantastical and beautiful) place.
- In the long run, everyone may benefit. That seems like a trade off Solas might be willing to make. Sacrificing a rather large portion of the current inhabitants of Thedas for a good chance at a happier, fuller existence for everyone may well be worth it in the eyes of an immortal being. He plans for the long haul.
