I suppose some like the idea of their really young Lavellan being in a "daddy" situation with Solas, and they are welcome to their headcanon and fantasy. Not passing judgement. Just noting that the terms seem to be used as if they mean something other than what they do, and it is a bit jarring for someone who might be a language/lore nerd and find it out of place.
Also my Lavellan is close in apparent age to Solas and would give him such a look if he persisted in calling her a child and likely accuse him of having some questionable ideas. And then kick him in the shin.
You know, this is actually something I have worried about in going into my chronicling of Lysaris Lavellan's playthrough because she IS so much younger than him (I have her canoned at around 23) and she DOES have some Daddy issues. But Solas has nothing to do with that. Their relationship is one based out of mutual respect and understanding of one another not... well, I hope it comes across, anyway. She's not a broken person, so it should. I hope...
Gonna be honest, I really hope that locking the romance in after Solas breaks up with you means that something more will come. I hope it isn't some weird programming thing that forces a romance to be locked in at some point because it has to be saved in the Keep or whatever. I really really hope that the romance has some significant treatment and/or consequences (hopefully positive).
Another thought, you guys know how Weekes had said on the phone at PAX that he wrote the Solas romance because he wanted to take every chance possible to humanize him so that he wouldn't seem too much like a villain? Do yall think he meant because of the reveal at the end that Solas is Fen'Harel and Fen'Harel has a **** load of stigma behind him or do yall think it is because of what is to come? I kinda want to tweet him about this, but I think that is something that he probably wouldn't answer due to spoilers.
I was thinking... more or less... if Weekes had not 'humanized' him, we would get to the end and go. "WTF? So we were just a pawn in his elven chess game this whole time? What a douche." But we don't do that because we come to the understanding that Solas really loves, cares about, and cherishes pawns, and only utilizes them because he has the understanding that their percieved 'weakness' gives them greater value.
My first playthrough I went Travelyan and started off romancing Blackwall. That was pretty dull so when I finished his revelations quest, I dumped him and Cullen comforted me through the rest of that game. He was sweet, but a bit boring. My Trav got along super well with Solas (I played a mage) and I thought he was a great character, then I saw the stinger and I was stunned. How had I missed that? Were there clues? Was I too busy smooching DA Ken on the ramparts to see what was right in front of me? I HAD to know more about Solas. So I rolled up a mage Lavellan for the sole purpose of getting to know him better and I fell hard. Even knowing what was coming didn't dampen the depth of my heartache. Best Bioware romance ever. My favorite Bioware companion of all time. I could never hate Solas. Angry, hurt, disappointed? You bet!
Now I'm on my 3rd playthough because....feels. *crawls into the pillow fort*
You and me, both. Minus the bit about Blackwall. I ****** hate Blackwall. Or... rather, he's not my cup of tea.
