OT here, and perhaps this has already been discussed. If so, I apologize, and feel free to ignore me. But...

Can we talk about that strange bricked up cave thing at the end of the huge ravine behind Argon's Lodge in the Emerald Graves?

It's strange, because typically large mysterious structures like that have some sort of explanation. A landmark, or a journal, SOMETHING. But this place is suspiciously lacking any identification. I, at least, haven't been able to find anything. The only possible clue is the pair of owls framing the sealed doorway. So perhaps Falon'Din?

I'm on my phone, so if you need a picture for reference, you'll have to work for it. :P

I think that's probably the Astrarium cave, I haven't done that one yet.

Guys, do you know who Coryfish meant by saying that he entered Golden City in the name of another? If you discussed it earlier, I'm sorry to repeat the question, but it bugs my mind!

Edit: He starts talking about it around 2:54.

I hate to mention it, but Fade rifts have always looked like an incoming migraine to me.

Oh, they definitely do. I don't usually get visual cues for migraines, but on occasion I have had those trippy tears in your vision. And they look a lot like that, just with black or white instead of green.

He entered the temple in the name of Dumat. When he didn't find him there, that was when he resolved to create himself as a god.

Red maybe? Since that's what the taint's colored

That and red is green's complementary color  Those also happen to be my two favorite colors.

Yet another reason why Christmas kicks ass.

<snip>

He worshipped(worships?) Dumat - one of the old gods and the first Archdemon.  He did it in his name.

This is why I have to headcanon the vallaslin scene as being in the fade. It works nicely after picking the side benefits line. They get to go upstairs, snuggle and fall asleep together.

Only works if you didn't get them removed... :(

Can work if you remove them do too. Given it's probably a really old spell from Arlathan used to free slaves so it removed the mystical bloodbinding of the Vallaslin and the removal of their physical component was a side benefit.

Since the Vallaslin are created in a ritual involving blood I immediately jumped to the conclusion that there was actually originally a blood magical binding effect going on. I could just be overly suspicious though.

Yeah, I actually hesitated to use the word "master", because I think they may have simply created a pandora's box of problems trying to utilize it into a real-world power.  But I think they command it as much as anyone can.  If power from the Fade, which is deemed magic, is where creation flows from, then the Void could be seen as the realm of the opposite force.  It's like Avernus described the taint, as something alien to demons, but it has its own power.  That's what the darkspawn emissaries are drawing from for their "magic".

If the elven Creators roamed and utilized the Fade, then the Forgotten Ones may have made the Void their own place of power.

On a separate note, there's a bit in the WoT that suggests that the elven gods were locked away well before the arrival of humans:

I was just re-reading and stopped at that same passage! I completely forgot about it. Now my brain won't go to sleep.

Speaking of astrariums, does the game ever explain lore-wise how they work?

Speaking of astrariums, does the game ever explain lore-wise how they work?

This is about what we have:

Regarding your inquiry regarding the so-called "astrariums," it is our considered belief that these are relics from a cult that existed in the pre-Andrastian era of the Tevinter Imperium. Now, what would be considered a cult in a society that worshipped the Old Gods? An order of magisters who believed in the destruction of the Magisterium, the governing body of the Imperium that determines which mages are and are not given the "magister" title. The members of this order wished to return to an earlier period where Dreamers ruled, and evidence indicates they operated throughout Tevinter, though primarily in the frontier areas. There they would lock away their secrets, caches of treasure, and perhaps even secret meeting places (though we have no way of knowing for certain), unlockable only through knowledge of ancient astronomy—a practice that was, we understand, rather out of fashion in the late Tevinter period.

According to our investigations, each of the astrariums could point to the secret cache if one knew the three constellations that mapped to each device present at the site. Connect the dweomers in the correct configuration, and it would be revealed. Many of these relics were sought out byAndrastian cultists in the early Divine Age (the Order of Fiery Promise in particular) and destroyed. Why? Because they believed the astrariums held together the Veil, and that destroying them would destroy the Veil and thus the world. Such is the way of cults of any kind that the true reasons for what they do could never truly be understood by modern minds.

—From a letter written by Magister Pelidanus, head of the Corial Order, 5:12 Exalted
—From Codex entry: Astrariums

Shards too, actually. What are they exactly? Pieces of the fade? We need tranquil skulls to locate them, and what's that about? And how come Solas doesn't appear to know anything about them when you see the first occularum, even though shards are necessary for the Solasan temple? And why does he have one on his desk?

Thought so! Buuuuuut... Why he doesn't mention Dumat by his name? It's little odd.

He does...CONSTANTLY in Legacy.  It was actually kind of creepy.  But he does in this game as well - at the end "DUMAT HALP! IF YOU EVER TRULY EXISTED" right before he gets his teeth kicked in.

In the Fade, there is a codex entry about how he entered the Golden City/Fade the first time "The tooth of Dumat" from the perspective of one his elven slaves.  It's quite sad.

killabee...how long does it take Cassandra to finally admit that she has returned feelings for you....I must have flirted with her like 10 times by now and she's still like "I don't need no man" even though I did her fetch quest and have a high enough approval rating....I'm currently right before the Winter Palace quest.

That is a fairly interesting bit of dialogue. Perhaps the cult was around that mysterious maybe real maybe not real 8th old god? Or perhaps they worshipped the elven gods, explaining why the constellations match up.

As for the shards, no idea. It may be that there's not a lot of lore behind it, they just wanted to give us something to collect. But who knows.

Because they were likely new magic since it requires the skulls of the Tranquil.  He's studying them. Solas just means pride.  I don't think he and that temple are related.  It's like somebody being named "Grace" or something. He took that name to remind himself of his failure/flaws.

The shards...who knows.  Could be something similar.
