Seriously. The guy has an overdeveloped sense of justice/ responsibility that is going to get him in trouble one day.

OH WAIT.

Yeah.  After Lavellan has dealt with varric's various "betrayals" with Corypheus and Bianca - both of which caused more immediate and actual problems, I think she would be like "alright, solas, enough with the self-pity".  We're going to fix this but not your way.  Also there are about 20 other things that you have to take responsibility for, one of which is leaving me high and dry in a wyvern pit.

I edited some of Solas' dialogue from the break-up scene, for a happier ending. It's kinda NSFW though so use headphones. :P

I want the Formless One to be terrifying beyond all comprehension, the name screams Lovecraft, I'd love him to live up to that... especially since we've kicked the asses of all the forbidden ones we've met so far, it would be a shock no?

Edit: Unless it's Solas or something, in which case..not.

Nothing like a last minute cop out...

IRL... Almost half time and Wales is beating England in the six nations cup... I have to ready myself...

Not going to lie, while I made the Inigo Montoya parallel, I'm not sure his reasons for vengeance/ responsibility are quite so clear/ worthy to me.

Yeah, I get that you sealed peeps away and **** didn't go the way you planned. But you weren't 12 years old and your father murdered before your eyes by a clearsingular culprit. That sort of vengeance and justice CAN be realized. But what he's hoping for is so amorphous that someone claiming any ability to control it is.. either incredibly stupid or incredibly arrogant. Probably both.

Moreover, no ONE person can be responsible for the fate of an empire, especially one so fraught with interior strife and betrayal, teetering on socio-economic collapse in a slave rebellion (whether it had happened yet, or was about to happen, or not they won is something else entirely). A whole lot of hands were in that pie that extended beyond even the pantheon.

To the point that I'm not entirely sure what his goals are. Releasing the Elvhen gods is counter-productive. They proved they were **** leaders, a few thousand years in isolation hardly helped their character flaws. In fact, it probably exacerbated them. Bringing them back would surely result in the exact same thing with more unhinged insanity. More slavery. More blood sacrifice. More betrayals. More world-wide destruction for power. For all of the Elvhen Empire's tales of forests and spires winding through the trees, their rivalries and the results thereof (see Andruil and Falon'Din) were such that I'm shocked Thedas survived. All of them brought out at once after millenia of cabin fever behind eluvians sounds like the worst idea. Pretty much... ever.

So that can't be his goal. If it's to restore the Elvhen Empire without the Gods themselves - that I could maybe see. But that would require "fixing" whatever started or continues to cause the Quickening. It would also require bringing the Elves to a knowledge of what they once were so they could become it again - but what did that lead to the last time they attempted to create Arlathan? The Dales, Red Crossing, and the Exalted Marched. Bad news, as I remember. Moreover, their collective history/ mythology has been so far corrupted that he's already been labeled a madman and a liar in the past by the Dalish. Revealing his identity would only further his condemnation.

TL;DR: Solas needs a sassy gay friend to ask him "WHAT, WHAT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"  Cause clearly Dorian dropped the ball. As did the Inquisitor. *badum tsssh*

^This is why I can't even begin to predict what he will do next. Another theory is that he's going to bring down the veil, but I can't see THAT happening either. He's not exactly happy when the veil comes down in that In Hushed Whispers AU.

Actually since EVERYBODY seems to be heading west, I'm guessing his goal has something to do with the blight.

This idea is beginning to form in my head after all the blight talk... perhaps he wants to reach the elven gods, not to release them, but to cure them from the blight?

Excuse me a bit while I craft a shiny tinfoil hat for myself...

Edit just to get this out of my system: Lord Woolsley is The Fluffy Ass One.

OT here, and perhaps this has already been discussed. If so, I apologize, and feel free to ignore me. But...

Can we talk about that strange bricked up cave thing at the end of the huge ravine behind Argon's Lodge in the Emerald Graves?

It's strange, because typically large mysterious structures like that have some sort of explanation. A landmark, or a journal, SOMETHING. But this place is suspiciously lacking any identification. I, at least, haven't been able to find anything. The only possible clue is the pair of owls framing the sealed doorway. So perhaps Falon'Din?

I'm on my phone, so if you need a picture for reference, you'll have to work for it. :P

That's the star thing cave.  The owl statues have the bits the beams hit.

I have a question, Solas gets upset if you drink from the well of sorrows saying that you are bound to a god that doesn't exist/ aren't gods and such. after the end credits, he appears to absorb flemeth's power, now If you drank from the well instead of morrigan are you therefore bound to Solas????

(one could only hope lol) ;)

Elves = We screw everything up.

At least they didn't create the darkspawn. Tevinter has them beat there.

It's sad how beautiful their empire was for them to destroy themselves for lack of leader or gods...like it sounds like elves were worse than tevinter...much worse. They used to be the kind of elves everyone hated because it was an empire of dick heads.

Not you Solas, maybe a little, but not you.

but, if the elves decide to rebel and actually stand up for themselves nowadays, I think I would enjoy these elves more than the douchebags that ruled an amazing empire.

How are they "worse" than Tevinter? Because they got conquered by Tevinter when they were still weak from internal strife and still reeling from loss of leadership? So what? Tevinter lost half its empire after it was weakened by the Blights and darkspawn they created in the first place.

Sure, Elvhen "gods" sound like they were jerks, but so were Tevinter "Old Gods" and the Maker (who is said to have abandoned his creations three times over petty vices and refuses to come back until they sing His praises across the globe). Sure, Alathan nobles were jerks who enslaved other elves and marked them with vallaslin, but Magisters stole the entire continent of and enslaved an entire race, then moved on to conquer and enslave people of all races all across Thedas, and constantly sacrificed them in blood magic rituals. Orlais, mere centuries after being freed from occupation by Tevinter, immediately went around conquering and occupying its neighbors, went around forcing its new religion on everyone else, and created a culture surrounding a deadly decadent court where lying, cheating, back-stabbing, and murdering other people over petty slights and petty gain is treated as an amusing pastime. EDIT: And need I go into the moral depravity of Orzammar's cutthroat politics and oppressive caste system? And how they're implied to have also been a vast empire with slaves in the past?

Why are people always quick to jump on the flaws of elves as "proof" that they're worse than humans, even though the flaws in question just point toward them being people who had flaws and moral failings and made mistakes like everyone else?

My theory is that whatever he did to seal away the elvhen gods might have trapped an unknown amount of elves along with them. You can't exactly spring a trap like that and not hit some collateral damage. This would explain the lack of leadership in Arlathan. With no upperclass or nobility to reasonably bring order, the slave revolt happens and the remaining nobles or otherwise 'capable' rulers are slain in the ensuing conflicts.

It would also explain a fair amount of the guilt he feels. He would be the only one who can reasonably retrieve them. Since Solas considered 'giving up' his plans [according to Weekes], whatever he plans to do can't be world shattering if he failed to do it. So he's not out to save the world...at least, not exactly. I think he feels indebted to The People, whoever they are, for what he did to them. And that trumps whatever else he might feel.

Of course, even this theory does make him out to be crazy reckless. He would have no idea what effects being sealed away would have on 'mortal' elves. Opening the door to try and let the 'innocents' out could also wake up the elven gods he worked so hard to trap up. And there's a fair chance that most ancient elves are going to be assholes and would simply create Arlathan 2.0, with dalish and city elves invited in as slaves.

That said- according to what he says to Cole, whatever he plans to do is going to lead to his own suffering. So not quite sure what that would mean. Perhaps he thinks he can switch places with them. Or perhaps it is something else entirely.
