I am so glad other people are bothered by the use of 'da'len' in romantic fanfics.

 

Well, he is old enough to be my Inquisitor's Dad XD

I swear my Lavellan must be the only one who didn't spend weeks and months crying her eyes out in a heartbroken daze after the breakup. She didn't sob on anyone's shoulder, get drunk, blather on about the breakup to her companions, or otherwise wander around like her whole world ended. She was hurt and upset, but mostly confused and figured whatever, give him space and we'll see what happens. We kinda got this bad guy to kill.

 

Maybe it's because I play her as being older and content with herself and not necessarily needing or wanting a relationship - she just wasn't going to pass up what seemed like a good thing when it presented itself. She might also be taking Leliana's words to heart that Solas might appear one day. After all, he ran off for a bit after Wisdom, right? RIGHT?

My Lavellan actually takes it pretty well until he disappears and then she's more worried than weepy. It is pretty worrying behavior given how upset he was and that he didn't say a word to anyone about leaving like he did after Wisdom.

So...I've been playing DA:O on my computer and downloaded a bunch of mods. All these mods make the game seem like new almost. I decided to romance Alistair with my elf mage. I'm going to keep him as a Grey Warden this time, I've never done that before, I always make him King. Anyway..I'm about halfway though the game and I accidentally flirted with Zevran. Alistair asked me about it, I told him we were just friends and poor Zevran disapproved 11 points.  I felt so bad. Now I want to start all over and romance Zevran instead.  *sighs*  Friggin' elves and their hotness!!

Nothing, really. We've basically just posted random quotes from calendar sheets and stuff. There were a few empty posts and, oh, somebody had a really great recipe for sugar and fat free chocolate mountain cookies. Other than that it was rather dull.

Hey Solas Thread,

 

So I woke up this morning thinking about the companions outfits. Because that is a totally normal way to start the day, ok!?

 

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that Solas and Lavellan didn't ever have sex. 

 

Why?

 

Because that weird leather under garment he has that goes from his neck to his feet, is secretly a hard leather body suit with no zip. He's just vacuum packed into that thing as part of some ancient elven god fashion.

 

So there's Lavellan getting all hot and heavy, rips off his beige sweater thing and his green non-trousers and BAM. ****-BLOCKED.

 

And then she dies on the floor from sexual frustation.

 

..as does my Male Lavellan, because I honestly don't see how that poor boy is getting Dorian's clothes off. ALL THOSE BUCKLES! WHERE DOES IT BEGIN AND WHERE DOES IT END!? In a moment of passion he would just end up crying from the puzzle solving of that outfit.

 

Bull is the easiest to strip off. He's always ready to ride.

My Lavellan takes it reasonably well.  She's hurt, but she talks to him afterwards and gets the promise that he'll tell her everything once Cornflakes is dead.  It's only after he leaves that she sort of falls apart.  But she's got her friends so she'll cope.

  The "Old Gods" are living creatures, fundamentally connected with the essence of all life. Each one with a nature pertaining to a single purpose. They are immortal, immutable, incorporeal - but not omnipotent, and not all-knowing. 

 

  Once, the Elves lived in harmony with those "Old Gods" named "Creators"; whose natures were giving, and had always provided elves with health, happiness and immortality. In exchange, the elves shared their own natures - the marvels of will, self, choice. Together the two types of beings created wonders. 

 

  One day humans arrived. Unlike the elves, who were knowledgeable of the different plains of existence, humans were not aware that they were connected to another set of "Old Gods". These Gods were not giving, but taking. They fed on life - being responsible for the very finite lifespan of humans; even speeding up the process by inflicting disease, or stress and bitterness of the heart. 

 

  So as the elves met the humans, on another plane, the Creators met the Forgotten Ones. The conflict of natures became immediately apparent. Out of fear for their allies, the elves refused any more contact with humans. 

 

  But the damage had been done. Simply becoming aware of the Forgotten Ones existence was enough for the elves to succumb to their effect. For you see, material life is equally susceptible to all "Old Gods". Mortality took hold. 

 

  Far worse, the Forgotten Ones, who resided in the plain of the Void, demanded access to the Fade - a realm tantalising in it's possibilities to be shaped by their will. Imagine the damage the will of pestilence, or spite, would achieve? The Creators denied them, starting a war between the two realms. 

 

  This would eventually culminate in Fen'Harel locking them all away in their respective realms. 

 

  Sometime later, the first Neromenian Dreamers made contact with the gods originally connected to them - the Forgotten Ones - in the Void. They learned the art of blood magic. 

 

  Fast forward to the time just before the magisters enter the Black City. @Ave may have been onto something - that The Forgotten Ones intended to deceive humanity into believing that dragons were their Old Gods. They were playing the long game. 

 

  It is no coincidence that the Forgotten Ones chose to make their move when the number of believers in the Old Gods reached its peak. Faith, in this case, equals susceptibility to "Old Gods" influence. The 100% faithful, like a first priest of Dumat, would have his "life force plane" 100% open to being filled with gross Forbidden One juice. 

 

  So the Forbidden Ones hitch a ride when the magisters travel to the Golden City, where the Creators reside. When the doors open, the link the magister's proximity provides to the Void allows the Forbidden Ones to jump out, restarting an endless incorporeal war in the Fade. 

 

  Not only this, but both the magisters and the Creators themselves are expelled from the Fade; carrying a "gift" from the Forbidden One known as "pestilence" - the Blight. The Creator's Old God Souls are put in the bodies of High Dragons, long before manipulated to move deep underground. 

  

  The Fade war rages on. Smaller daily battles are made over the souls of mortals, who make it more difficult to connect with any "good" influence on the other plane by believing themselves betrayed by Old Gods, no longer letting them in. 

 

  Grey Wardens also aspire to defeat an Archdemon by taking in its essence, killing them in the process - but on death, it is simply the Archdemon hitching a ride back to the Fade with the Warden's soul, cleansed and ready to join the eternal battle again.

 

Add to this the codex on the Order of Fiery Promise trying to destroy the veil and bring about the destruction and necessary "remaking" of the world.... you've got your standard apocalypse chestnut right there, with Fen'Harel and the elves having attempted to prevent it. 

Tl:Dr: Both sides of "Old Gods" waging endless war in the Fade; believed to eventually bring about the apocalypse (destruction and remaking of the world). 

  Souls of brave sacrifices (Wardens, players) invited to fight alongside the "Creators" on death. 

....And all of this makes me think, in a meta-sense, of the dotHack//Sign series where the AI control program of the game ("Morganna"), uses the "negative emotion data" present in the world due to human players to put the new, perfected AI control program ("Aura") into a coma so that it may never wake and override her.

Yeah, it freaks me out that people keep using it when they write Solas. He wouldn't call her da'len if he's sleeping with her. >.<

 

I used it a little early on in their relationship.  In my headcanon, Solas's prejudice toward the Dalish colors his perception of her at first, so he uses "da'len" in a friendly but slightly condescending manner.  He stops once he starts referring to her as "lethallan."  The shift in his language matches the shift in their relationship as he gets to know her without just pigeonholing her as another Dalish elf.

I'm with you. Their relationship was actually pretty private. Not on purpose but just that's how they both were. She was angry initially and upset but not ragey. She took a day and just kind of kept going. It wasn't like he cheated on her. She's worried about him but she's got thedas to fix. He will come back if he needs her. She was pretty confident in his feelings for her and hers for him. At the end of the day though she's her own person. She can be happy without him....not that she particularly wants to.

While we missed you dearly, we carried on as usual, with artwork, theories that spiral into madness, passive aggressive snark that eventually fades.


GDL practically confirmed a DLC and also read some Lovecraft, which is basically everything and weirdly hot.

I've gotten over my distrust of Killabee, ventured into the new lore thread, and paid off my car.

All in all its business as usual.
