Do you relate to your Lavellan? I mean, do you play your Lavellan as yourself, based on the same ideas, morals, thoughts etc. or do you make up somebody completely unrelated to yourself? In case it's a different character, why do you build her exactly the way you do?
I find that fascinating because mine usually is me. My decisions, my thoughts, my "back story". (Well, I share Avejajed's approach to back stories, actually.)
The best characters are ones you can relate to, so they will naturally draw from your experiences and beliefs as well as those of the people you know and interact with in the world. But for my characters, I don't self-insert. I give them a backstory as best I can with what the game allows and use that to build their personality and beliefs. Those can then be shaped further by what they experience through the game with events and companions. I try to play and react based on how the character has developed, rather than my own feelings on the matter. Usually, anyway. Some things will be irrational. ![]()
