The absolute hysterical thing about all of this is that I agree 100%.    I don't villify, hate, want to kill, weep over the break up with Solas.  I pity him. PW succeeded in making his character sadder because of it.  Oh man...word usage.  I regret it.   That'll learn me to post before coffee.  Have a nice day everyone, I'm going to the museum.

Oh, I was just responding to her post and discussions I've seen on the matter outside of here. I didn't read through the whole thread so I wasn't calling you out or anything! Have fun at the museum!

I just wanted to talk about these stupid requesitions and how I'm way too ocd to let unfinished quests go in my journal. Nooooo.

Requisitions sucks! I mean, I need those materials for armors and weapons. How many times do I have to let people study a rock?

Hah! To explain my reasoning with the kid comment-

I just meant that Solas and Lavellan have no long term ties. She isn't raising a hoard of his egg children that he's leaving without explanation. They don't really have a lot of ties other than love. Love is important, of course. But he didn't put down roots, which is why I didn't think he was obligated to give a reasoning. Even if they were having sex, they are still basically dating.

If he had planted roots, so to speak, then it becomes a bit more dodgy when explanation isn't given.

Break ups are bad in general, yes.  There wasn't a good option once the relationship was started. I just think it's unfair to say that Solas shouldn't have an emotional response to knowing he needed to end things. He was clearly heartbroken there too. We want to pretend that people will always be selfless but he was probably just as concerned with the fact that he was crushing his own heart into dust at the same time.

A lot of things are unfair. Like, that breakup :P  I agree with those who say the relationship probably was a mistake in the first place being who he is. I'm again not saying he was heartless or emotionless, just to double clarify. It's never someone's fault for being emotional. It's still a weak response to me though, with how he dealt with it. One can be emotional and not let the emotion control them. Obviously at one point he noodled it through and thought it was worth telling her. It's not like he had absolutely no choice.

In the end it's his decision. I just don't think his emotion excuses how it was done. And it's obviously fine that others don't agree.

I disagree. What would be unfair is abandoning your kid in the process. Nobody has any obligation to stay with their SO, and I think that's kind of a scary mindset, but I DO believe there is an obligation to whatever children you bring into the world. You can take care of your kid without being married to someone.

But that doesn't apply to Solas and Lavellan. And gosh am I happy about that, I was never an enormous fan of the idea of kid plotlines. Sure I think about it for some of my DA couples down the road but I wouldn't pick that choice in game. I love Morrigan, but I never romanced her.

It's called a commitment for a reason ;) That's all I'll say on that. I don't think anyone has to do anything, I just frown upon those who leave spouses for small reasons, though yes I know "small reasons" is subjective.

Oh come on!

"I want to show you how I feel for you... You are so beautiful... Alright, that's it. See you around."

If that's not badly I don't know what. He should have cut all the clutter and just ended it right away.

There's about a hundred ways to end a relationship and this is probably the meanest way to do it.

Wouldn't say meanest.. meanest would more like to be cheating on with someone and then she walks into the room and then he is like '' yea btw I was planning on dumping you ''

and I actually think that blackwall did a little bit shittier to inquisitor than Solas.. I mean Solas doesn't neccessarily LIE to you. He is just more like.. going around about who he is. Also he really wants to tell but who the heck would 1st. believe that he is dread wolf. 2nd. trust him after. 3rd. How would Lavellan feel about him? Well instead Blackwall lies to you all the time about everything. He pretends to be someone else and leads you on and then fucks you and leaves you by WRITING A NOTE and then you get to know that he is a murderer and that he didn't even want to do any greater good. All he did was **** and how he leaves inquisitor... well obv. you can still be with him later but think about how shitty that is.
Solas at least as he says in the banter that he thought they were first similar but getting to know that what he did was not neccessary and did no good to anyone he really could not consider Blackwall similar to himself anymore. He also says '' What I did was neccessary '' so whatever he did.. he did it for some greater good I believe. Also he probably doesn't tell you in the end who he is and about everything even though he wants to because he doesn't want to jeopardize the mission at that point. I mean it is understandable cause he cannot know how Lavellan would react if she got to know. He did it wrong by leading the stuff on but honestly I think he broke up with her sort of.. not the best way but still a nice way. He wanted to show her that he loves her so much but that he just CANNOT be with her.. now I think still that he needs to give that good explanation for Lavellan. And I think that he owns her the truth later. I still hope that they will end up together though. It was still sort of selfish to do what he did.

Quizzy has 30 bottles of liquor just sitting there, down in the cellar. After saving the world, I think a bit of unwinding time would be pleasant for everybody.

Absolutely NO ORLESIANS ALLOWED. Their parties always end with somebody dead, and somebody else's marriage in ruins. >_<

It occurs to me just how much influence Lavellan has. She could mobilize some serious forces if Solas ever ended up on her bad side. My canon has Leliana as Divine, who is both very progressive and a friend of my Lavellan's. And then Orlais is pretty much the Inquisition's b***h after Halamshiral.

They seem to be playing at the idea that the Inquisition has gotten too powerful, though, so I wonder if they're going to pull a "the Inquisitor left their post" and then the Inquisition started acting as its own body/got a new, cruel leader and is now doing horrible things to everyone. That sounds like something BioWare would do.

Nah, we can't give them the satisfaction. We have to make a party so great that everyone comes back east and is sorry for not inviting us.

It is like a plot of an 80s highschool movie.

The way I understood it, the Inquisition was suppose to be broken up/over after solving the mage rebellion, which it (Kinda) did.  Then after Cory it was suppose to break up.  I'd prefer it becoming it's own nation.  There's a town developing around the castle.

I personally disagree. Give me the situation you described and I can be angry and mad and wish him to hell without a second thought. But don't tell me you love me and leave me with the next sentence. That's just very much harder to get over and requires to be really strong. But I assume it's just really a question of what type of person you are.

I do not want to speak Blackwall now. I do have an opinion but it is off-topic and the thread unnerving enough people already, I do not wish to stretch it. No offense please, I only want to try let things calm down for those who wish the discussions to end.

I agree more or less for normal relationships, but in most cases unless your SO were abusive or something, just deciding you no longer want to be with your wife or husband when you have a kid seems irresponsible and unfair to the child to me. You don't just quit family, and that's what your SO is when you marry them. That's just my opinion on that, which is unrelated. So my bad for that.

Anyway, as for Solas, it's not about the break up if you ask me, it's how it was done.

Teach me more of your ways.

I draw a Abelas x Solas picture.

And the real reason Solas leaves is revealed!

Awesome pic.

Did you guys hear? It's a little thing since of course they are, but Mark Darrah confirmed they're currently working on DLC via Twitter.  :D

Whoops, forgot to link it in my excitement: https://twitter.com/...138631447584768

I keep having this horrible feeling that they're going to announce a DLC that's just another map. Hissing Wastes Pt2. Just an wide empty space for my team to walk round in silence while I search for items that have no relevance to the plot and cry.

I stepped outside. Did you guys know there's a world outside? With other threads and posts and... people? It was a horrible experience, I shall not do that again.

I went into the Feedback section once.

Once.

Vi8JI.gif

Wait, what? Everyone hates Solas now?

Tsk. I don't read this thread for 24 hours and now i'm supposed to hate the guy?

Let's see here..

um. no. I got nothing. If I'm honest I can't criticize a character for breaking up with someone and then cutting them out of their lives without an explanation. Done it.

I shall high five Solas on my way to douche bag corner. Sometimes life demands a bit of selfish action.

That's fine and not everyone has to like the same things. I tried to like the Cullen romance, but the fact that nothing unexpected happens and it all ties up neatly and happily just left me bored. I think the Dorian romance would do the same. With Solas, the end hasn't been written yet, so I'm going to reserve final judgement on it until I've seen how the writers wrap it up. That in itself might be enough to put some people off the romance. Me, well- it hooked me badly. *grumbles*

I prefer the Dorian romance somewhat because he expresses his love the same way I do. By saying he hates you. I love reading posts of people who got mad over that because they just don't understand the thinking behind it.

But I would stake a lot on that romance not having the fluffy ending people think it has. Sooo much am I anticipating that Dorian is going to be like the DAO LI's and show up in another game without the Inquisitor. Possibly with his fate being decided much like Alistair's in DAI. He is just someone I feel they are going to use again, but I feel like they won't be using the Inquisitor with him.

Much like I fear they will with Solas as well.

I wish I wasn't so pessimistic with Bioware romances, but it's their fault! You can potentially break up both your DAO and DA2 relationships in this game. It's hard to have a relationship in Thedas.

Then again I don't enjoy it when it goes well. Hence why I can't romance Cullen.

You never forget your first so I will always love that Solas romance. Plus I laughed so freaking much when he dumped my Lavellan. Oooh yes. Inappropriate laugher here. Never watch sad things with me. I will ruin the experience.

But then I also don't have any great sympathy for Lavellan. He does tell her it's a bad idea. More than once. She doesn't listen. If she was my friend IRL I'd smack her on the head instead of giving her a shoulder to cry on. I'm a total charmer like that.

aaaand this is why I have an angry Lavellan and not a sad one. She dun goofed up.
