The first time I did Dorian's quest I had no idea how emotional it was going to be. So Dorian ended up wearing what I can only describe as 'plaidweave caveman' (I think it was one of the mail varients...) while confronting his father. It's a credit to the writing and the acting that it didn't ruin the quest for me.

Alright, maybe I get angry at Solas, but never hate him I understand why he does the things he does. Most of the things that even make me angry with him are just because I'm worried for him. I just wish Bioware would give Solasmancers a chance at a happy ending the same way the Morrigan romancers did.

Has anyone ever theorized the reason for using the "Elven Artifact" in Dirthamen's temple, to summon the High Priest? I just found it, highly suspect...
Like, oh, I don't know, maybe all of this "veil strengthening" is actually tiny parts of a giant summoning circle. A summoning circle that would release, hmmm, maybe magical beings that have been locked away for centuries?! Or something...
I've thought that the artifacts might be tuning the Veil so that Solas can manipulate it better. Like re-attaching transformers in a power grid so that you can use the master switch. I think it may be one of those "asset reuse" things so the devs didn't have to spend more creating a unique artifact for it. OR The artifact may be just like the orb - worthless until you imbue it with power. Bind something to it. etc. etc. So they look the same because it's just a ball of metal. Does that make sense?

Yeah, I can see that. Skyhold definitely has something up it's stony sleeve. Perhaps the elven artifacts were commonplace, and just accentuated magical properties.

Sigh. As much as I don't want to admit they'd reuse that for ease, you're probably right. However, if not, than the implications are fascinating. It just seems odd I never ran into these deactivated artifacts at any other point in time, in the previous two games, like... you'd think the Warden would have come across even a couple...

I think your first line is the most important thing to keep in mind when thinking about a character. I love Solas as a character and as a romance but that doesn't stop me from noticing his flaws. If you start thinking of a character as flawless it means that any faults you notice become worse.
Precisely. To me, a character without flaws is just an uninteresting Mary Sue. Solas romance is wonderfully written, and the core of it to me and its driving force is the conflict inside him between his duty and his feelings. Falling in love at the worst time and cornering yourself at the end of a no way road because you can't stop letting your feelings grow, that is a very human thing; and the fact that they allowed a god to make this most earthly mistake is great writing for me.
That also doesn't detract from other romances in my view. One thing I love about DAI is that almost every romance offers a very different experience; my first run was a Cullemance and I enjoyed every bit of it.
So no, I don't hate Solas; yes, I think he was a bit selfish and weak and caused Lavellan a great deal of pain because of it; and yes I think all of that is part of what I think to be a damn well written romance.
All this talk of frilly cakes...I would really like one but since having 4 teeth pulled I can't eat anything that's not liquified... -sobs-
TRUTH. We needed some more testosterone. Don't get me wrong, I love all the estrogen in here. But we needed a Bog Unicorn to our Rainbow Cupcake Sparkle Unicorn. It allows us to feel free to be all the different kinds of unicorns inbetween as compared to feeling trapped into one flavor.

I would also like to see this, but also a not lovey dovey version, because yes my Lavellan has a sweet tooth, but my Trevelyan has a serious problematic sweet tooth, she loves cakes (especially petit fours) so I imagine that when she hears Solas likes the fancy cakes that every time she indulges her sweet tooth with cake she brings him one and includes him in it.
