That's the thing though. Solas and Lavellan never referred to each other as hahren and da'len in my playthrough, so when I finished the game and went scrounging for fics, I was like, where did that come from? I'm not into teacher/student or elder/innocent relationships either (they squick me out a little actually). It's pretty sad that I can't enjoy fics like Apotheosis though, since a lot of people say it's a great read.

I believe they mention the term once way at the beginning when they are having a spat about Dalish, then never again. At least not for me and I have played female Lavellan beginnings...a LOT of times.

 

I think the elder thing comes from Bioware stating Solas' age at 'in his 40s' and standard current society thinking being that that's old.  Sure, it's easy for me to think like that now that I am 'old' too and I know I thought 30 was washed up back then, but there you are.

 

On another note, I had a 'don't want to get up and face the job hunt chore' episode this morning and headcannoned a brief, melodramatic story of my reaper Briseis Lavellan:

 

Post break-up, she conferred with Morrigan and decided that her presence wasn't required to seal all rifts and defeat Corypheus. She was planning to open a rift to the Fade and just disappear, but instead died of an anyeurism brought on by overuse of dragon's blood to fuel her reaper powers. My theory was that the rifts and the breach did close but Cory was still at large and everyone had to deal with it.  I think they could have; she really was just one person, regardless of anchor. 

 

Anyway, I got up and used this forum to avoid the job hunt, but I guess I'll get back at it.

I remember trying to kill the dragon in Hissing Waste. It was minding its own business before I came close, and halfway during the battle its dragonlings came to attack me. I felt so guilty wracking a family............

 

In my current PT, I went to kill that wyvern in Crestwood....and I found it there with two baby wyverns splashing around in the pool, and I couldn't do it.  Too horrible.  So for now they're still living in Heartcrush Ruins.

I have a feeling he intentionally kept the cakes secret. I know I would have.

I am wishing for a black emporium DLC where we can change our hair color to a real black and not a  super friggin' shiny dark blue. I really want to make an elf with black hair, but I can't stand how shiny it is...it's almost blinding!!!  My rant for the day!

I should point out that while it doesn't squick me out (as I don't think it's said particularly with too much meaning behind it) I don't find a sexual version of it appropriate for their relationship at all.

And I can understand why a sexualized version of that would squick someone out. I just don't see it as sexual or demeaning. If it was, it would probably irritate me too.

That said, I always felt like it was more generalized than people gave it credit for. Like I call my 27 year old brother and his wife "The Kids" when referring to them.

Only if you pick one of the top options in the dialogue wheel. My Lavellan usually took the middle, so no hahren/da'len for her.

 

As to Solas's being older, I didn't mind it ingame because that wasn't one of the focuses of their relationship. He just happens to be older (ha, Lavellan has no idea), just as she just happens to be Dalish. But I just... don't like it when that dynamic is used as a kink, as I often see in fanfic.

 

And wow. Those thoughts aren't cheery at all.

According to the wiki it does mean "elder" but not necessarily based on the age.

"Hahren (hah-REHN): Elder. Used as a term of respect by the Dalish, but more specifically for the leader of an alienage by the City Elves."

Given that I see enough reasons for using that term.

Why do you not refuse them to join (Vivienne) or tell them to leave (Sera if you accept her at first for the bees)? Does it have benefits to keep them around or disadvantages to make them go/not take them in?

 

 

I did not read any of the books, so my knowledge on Felassan is basically non-existent. I only know that tiny bit of lore because he appeared as a ghost in DAO. May I ask what he said or if there is anything interesting about this in the books/related to him?

 

Felassan is an ancient elf pretending to be dalish in The Masked Empire, an interesting character and I wish we knew more about him.

 

 

I middle optioned it all the way through the elf conversation with Solas (the delivery of "allergic to halla" kills me) so hahren/da'len never happened for me either. And while my Lavellan thinks it's sweet when the Exalted Plains Keeper unfreezes enough to call her da'len and when the widow in Redcliffe thanked her for taking flowers to his wife's grave it's not how she wants the guy she's looking to have sex with to refer to her.

Be glad we get the patches later, they have to go through certification first, which is why we have the delay. We have less problems because of that, I think, and less game breaking issues to begin with.

And yes, we have dlc first.

I can see him living a very extravagant lifestyle when he was still Fen'Harel though, before the rebellion happened. Rav's informed me dreads take a lot of work.

 

Edit: Assuming his concept art was young Fen'Harel of course  . I still haven't given up on Fen'Harel was just a village kid who launched a rebellion against the gods though.

I'm like 100000 percent sure any important story DLC will be last.

I, for one, will be thrilled to death for a black emporium DLC. Preferably with some new hair.I think that's more likely anyway.

I'm also 10000 percent sure whatever the first DLC will be is already done, besides bug fixes and stuff. Just going through QA and getting business done with Microsoft and EA.

Yes.  Black Emporium is a must, IMO.  I used it constantly.  Tweaking makeup, changing hair after each act, plus I just wanted to talk to Xenon sometimes... that guys is a HOOT.
