I'm guessing part of the reason 'hot for teacher' is so popular with Solas fan fiction has to do with the age demographics of many of the writers. And the fact that Lavellan seems to be fairly young- it is quite difficult to even make an elven inquisitor that looks like they are pushing forty without using the old skin.
I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with it. Any more than say, dom!Solas or whatever else people are into.
I suppose I would say my Lavellan considers him something of a mentor...although I probably would skew it more to a Merlin and Nimue type of relationship. Which is to say, Solas may very well come to regret assisting in making Lavellan as capable as she is. Particularly if they come into conflict.
Although that could be because I see my girl as being a bit more aggressive than she is passive. She isn't likely to just fall in love without some form of pragmatism behind it. She loved him...but I think even if she hadn't loved him, she would have still pursued him and tried to seduce him. She saw he was an intelligent, cunning man who had unique talents and experiences. She wanted that. If she was just going for looks and happy feels, she would have gone for Cullen.
Thankfully, they actually did get along, and the feelings were legitimate. But I still see her as more of a fox than she is a halla, in terms of their relationship. She's the other predatory creature, the other trickster.
