Truthfully, I'm more excited to see what's out there than finding Solas...maybe right now. I mean don't get me wrong, Solas is great and I have questions, but -- to borrow your wonderful phrase -- I just love love dealing with "wtf is going on over there".  I'm also imagining Dorian in a situation of utter weirdness.  He'd be so delightful.

Exploring and looking for Solas all sound like fun.  DA:I has been great for digging through the mysterious stuff.  :D

Lavellan: I'm just going to search those creepy woods for a while.  Tack up some of these posters.

Dorian: Are we looking for Solas or a lost dog?

Cole: She's not sure.

Marquis de Serault: Whatever you do, don't step off the road!!!

It feels like there's another part of me that has the immense thirst to know what's going on over there. The finding Solas part feels seperate but it's need is just as strong...does that make sense? Or have I completely lost it?

No, you haven't. I agree. There are so many hints that there's so much out there. Things that have shaped the core and foundation of Thedas.  Magic that we have yet to see. Magic that has yet to be tamed.  I get that Fen'Harel is important and the implications of what he did and who he is are HUGGGE, but it makes me so excited that he's just this small piece of this large complicated universe.  There may be things that he doesn't even truly understand which I think is wonderful.

Do you have the first one? Is it interesting? I got the concept art book because I am hopelessly weak, but I was thinking bout WoT to nerd out overall Thedas lore.

I have it and I have this rather irrational and crazed idea that if ever there's an apocalypse and humanity loses all power...that Dragon Age lore should be something that the world remembers... Not the classics, no, Dragon Age lore. O.o ...priorities.

I think this is the perfect explanation for why digging through lore is such an effective distraction from the hellspiral.

I would like to like this but I just cannot encourage such behavior. I assume you know how AWOL is usually perceived and.. well.. handled.

Found this:
There are also stranger more heretical chantry groups in the fringes around Serault. The largest splinter group is "The Cult of Masked Andraste" who worship Masked Andraste, a huntress-aspect version of Andraste and has several shrines in the forests around Serault. The symbol of the cult is a bow. They gather and conduct their rites in chantry robes and black masks of charred wood and pray to a wooden statue of a Masked Andraste.

_____

So where would the idea of a huntress with a bow and a mask [claiming to be] Andraste come from?
I've never heard Andraste referred to in this way but the cult has to stem from something...

I just bought it recently. It's gorgeous, and has a lot of great concept art alongside the lore. If you've read lots of codex entries then a lot of it's going to be review, but I still love it and I think it's a worthwhile purchase.

Can't wait for Vol. 2, though. Apparently it's going to be all new info.

Yeah this cult was really weird.

People have theorized that Andraste's a mage, but never an archer.

And I wondered if the mask had something to do with why Orlesians wear masks now when I first saw this.

Ohh now this is more like the real Andraste, the celtic warrior goddess who was invoked down in my neck of the woods. Apparently theres some kind of shrine dedicated to her in Epping Forest somewhere, no one knows where, it isn't marked. And no, I can't go and find it, Epping Forest is BIG.

Maybe Andruil? Maybe it was her followers running around with shrines to her that Seraults people mistook as Andraste.

Oh, that can work. Andruil had ties to the Void too after all, maybe she also had her slaves wear red lyrium vallaslin. She's mean enough

But why the masks though?

Hmm. Maybe to symbolize something? How she came back from the Void and forgot the hoe to get there? "Blinded" in some way. You know those elves and their symbolism.

And even thought he's a lying liar that lies I didn't get the impression Solas knew a whole lot about the red lyrium, so if it is a lyrium tattoo, maybe it was corrupted long after Andruil got locked away, and "turned" red.

It says that Andruil covered her face and all forgot what she looked like. This was after she returned from the void.

I got a feeling, that when a DLC finally comes out, some creepy revealing info included, we all will be like "meh, not a big deal, we've already theorized about this somewhere between pages 2500 and 3000".

You, guys, are awesome.

I always wondered if the writers casually read the theories here and come across one...

Haha! Well, it is nothing that hasn't been discussed before. This last court stuff is totally new to me. I guess I need to start investigating. I love when new information is added to the pot.

Based on how she's been depicted, I feel like we're going to end up pitying her.  Her codex entries make me feel sorry for her more than fear/loathe her. There has been exactly one person that I've hated in all of DA and that was the entire country of Orlais.  She HAS to be better.

Also, he does need to stop.  Or at least take an army with him because it sounds like a mess out there.  HE CAN BORROW MINE.

Okay. So we aren't totally connecting the red faced elves with the cult of Masked Andraste, but we can reasonably theorize the cult of Masked Andraste isn't really andraste, but Andruil that some are mistakingly worshiping as Andraste.

So let's connect the elves to This cult.

Elves in the forest would certainly have shrines. Maybe Andruils temple is there, like Mythal's is in the wilds.
