I totally despise it. I will regret this to eternity (and beyond!) but this time I just have to do it in order to get it right: rofl.

At both, at not going in and at succeeding at not going in. I would have gone in, I would have stepped on some loose stone, thudded on the floor to break my armor and leave with a bleeding nose, meeting the Divine right at the stairs up. I just know it.

Most of these snouted faces appear to be eating mabari hound statues.

The whole dog eating thing is super creepy, but makes more sense after finding this codex entry:

In case you're wondering what's in the mouth of the old forest spirits when they aren't eating hounds, well... Again, you're welcome for the nightmares.

There are a lot of these mabari-eating statues. Pretending this means more than the artists making exceptional use of game assets, it begs the question of how may other prayers are asking for the wolf, so to speak.

 

Solas says the gods are mages or spirits or something more. Spirits embody a quality and that is their purpose. Is it possible the ancient gods are powerful, but bound in a similar fashion? Flemeth is determined to get justice for Mythal, who is the goddess of justice.

 

A thousand years is a long time to be away, and the elven people have been praying for release from slavery, ritual slaughter, and general abuse for some time. Perhaps their awakened god of rebellion has no choice but to try and save them again? As in literally has no choice.

I noticed the mabaris being eaten, too. I assumed it's because this realm grew fat off the fears of Fereldans during the Blight, so they symbolize Ferelden being swallowed up by monsters.

I'm leaning more towards that plea being spoken by the first werewolf though:

 

Fereldan lore is full of instances where these creatures have plagued the countryside: wolves possessed by rage demons and transformed into humanoid monsters with incredible speed and strength, able to spread a curse to those they bit that would drive them mad with unthinking fury. When in this enraged state, a human host can likewise become possessed and be transformed into a feral, wolf-like beast.
