HAWKE/WARDEN WILL BE RIDING A GRIFFON FROM WEISSHAUPT BACK TO SKYHOLD. FUTURE DLC, YEAH.

 

The elaboration of this idea spoilered for length.

Yes, you heard me. If we take Last Flight's story as a cannon world story, then griffons are totally alive and they're happening. Haven't read the book, but I seem to recall a bit about the book that says the griffon eggs had a note that said "don't trust the First Warden," or something to that effect. So if whoever found the eggs decided to actually keep them secret and raise them outside of the First Warden's view, it would be kind of a big deal if he found out about them somehow.

 

If one of the inner circle taking care of the griffons turned and brought the griffons to Weisshaupt after they grew up enough to be ridden, the First Warden would be very interested in this new development. He's into all sorts of shady ****, and apparently can't be trusted to look after the interests of griffons. Griffons would give the Wardens power. Griffons would also enable Wardens (or a certain Inquisitor) to reach places specifically designed so that only flying creatures can enter them.

If news about the griffons broke through at Weisshaupt after Hawke/Warden got there, or there was an internal schism about what to do about them and how to use a resurgence of griffons, then that could explain the sudden silence from the fortress. First Warden and loyal subjects silencing objectors (and possibly killing griffons in the process).

 

THUS! In order to protect a griffon, and prevent Crazy Plan X that the First Warden is doing, Hawke/Warden Sacrifice will be desperately flying back to Skyhold to tell the Inquisitor. As the major power and source of stability (along with being trustworthy), the Inquisitor is in a place to do covert operations up north. BUT WAIT! That's too easy, and it means Hawke/Warden will have to still be in the story and require all sorts of dialogue. They won't be going with you back to Weisshaupt. Instead, they will be traveling to go get the good!Wardens and explain the situation if you kept them, or running around Ferelden if you decided to banish them from Orlais. Either way, Hawke/Warden is out of the picture and the Inquisitor gets to keep the griffon.

 

NEXT! If Bioware is awesome, there will be a brief tutorial on how to fly a griffon consisting of the Inquisitor flying around in Skyhold. Flight mechanics should be simpler than horse mechanics. I'm thinking direction is controlled by mouse/camera movement so that a person can strafe with left and right, rather than full turns like horses. So like default Skyrim first person mode, in a way. Run forward, turn mouse left or right to actually turn those direction.

Also because mounted combat is too complicated to introduce in an expansion/dlc.

 

FADE TO BLACK CUTSCENE. We are in the outskirts of Weisshaupt, or a fair enough distance away so that lookouts don't see our party. From where we are offered (essentially) a choice between going on foot and having Feathers fight with us as an ally, or flying to the aeries on top of the fortress to sneak in that way. Either way, that's how we get to Weisshaupt to try and figure out WTF is going on over there. And a griffon. That's how we get Feathers.

So a little off topic. Does anyone know if it is better to make Cole human rather than a spirit? I always end up making him a spirit ^{because Solas says so...}

It's a matter of personal preference. Both choices are meant to have their merits, according to Mr. Weekes. I personally prefer spirit myself, but there are rather cute scenes to be had if you should choose human.

So a little off topic. Does anyone know if it is better to make Cole human rather than a spirit? I always end up making him a spirit ^{because Solas says so...}  

One of the things I really like about Cole's quest is that neither resolution is obviously better.  People have their individual preferences, but I like Cole either way.  As a human, he's more relatable and personable, but still somewhat dependent on the Inquisitor and other companions to help him find his way.  As a spirit, he's more alien in nature and thought, but also more independent, a sort of guardian angel of compassion.

I was reading the discussion about heading west while I was at work and you guys I couldn't wait to get home because seriously every time someone mentions the MYSTERIOUS WESSST all I can think about is that Flapjack episode where the west is basically where ALL THE NIGHTMARES LIVE.

There is a silver lining to all the angst.  Solas almost told Lavellan the truth, then nearly gave up his mission for her.  Yes, it's all the tears, but it also gives me hope for future Solas content.  She doesn't know how close he came, but we do.  He still loves her, and if anyone could get through to him even after everything that's happened, it's Lavellan.

The white hart in medieval literature, if you are interested:

 The white stag appears on several occasions in medieval Arthuriana; early in Malory, it is one of the three creatures that run through the hall during Arthur's marriage feast in the Tale of King Arthur (1.102).  A white hart comes into the hall, followed by a white brachet, and they are chased in turn by a pack of hounds.  Gawain is tasked with capturing the white hart, and though he succeeds, he also kills a lady, which leads to his oath that he will champion the causes of ladies in the future (1.105-109). The quest sparked by the hart and these other creatures leads to the Pentecostal oath so critical to the chivalric virtues practiced by Arthur's court (1.120). Chretien de Troyes's Erec and Enide opens with Arthur's intent to revive the custom of the white stag, which Gawain explains is that "whoever can kill the white stag has the right to kiss the most beautiful maiden of your court regardless of the consequences" (2).  Arthur successfully kills the stag, but the kiss itself is fortunately delayed until Erec returns to court with Enide, who is immediately recognized by all as the most beautiful lady there (23).  Her arrival thus prevents dissention at court.  Michael Twomey identifies this as the earliest appearance of the white stag in the Arthurian tradition. In this appearance, he suggests, "the significance of the hunt is the affirmation of chivalric and courtly order, which is temporarily jeopardized” (100).  This story is also retold in the Post-Vulgate Merlin Continuation (4.227). 

 
Deer – particularly white deer – often appear in religious contexts, both in Malory and in the French Grail cycle.  In Malory's Morte d’Arthur, Galahad and the grail knights encounter a hart and four lions while in the Waste Forest.  The lions are transformed into a lion, a man, an eagle, and an ox – signs of the evangelists – while the hart leaps through a glass window without breaking it.  The hart here is explained as a symbol of Christ entering the Virgin Mary’s womb (2.999).  The white stag in the Lancelot-Grail Cycle's Queste is glossed differently: in this version, Galahad, Perceval, and Bors track a stag into a chapel, and they find the stag being protected by four lions.  The knights marvel as the stag turns into a man, while they lions turn into the symbols of the four evangelists (the lion, man, eagle and ox, as in Malory). The hermit singing mass tells them that this reveals them to be worthy men, as God is letting them see his mysteries, and explains that the stag represents the resurrection of Christ through its rebirth (4.74).  This is also retold in the Post-Vulgate Quest (5.236).  In the Post-Vulgate Merlin Continuation, Dodinel, Galahad, and Yvain encounter a white stag being guarded by four lions.  They marvel at this wonder, and then Galahad rides off in pursuit of the stag (though without finding it) (5.136).  Though this hunt is not technically part of a Grail Quest, the choice of Galahad as the knight who pursues the stag seems meant to invoke these quests where the stag appears to him.  These hunts are not unique to medieval Arthuriana; as Twomey observes, “the stag hunt, particularly the hunt for a white stag, has various significances in classical and medieval literature, and it occurs in a variety of genres, such as myth, Breton lai, saint's life, chanson de geste, and romance” (100).  The persistent use of the white stag in grail quests, especially French ones, suggests that these deer lead the knights of the grail quest to new knowledge or truth.

What I would do is erratically jump around at a cliff, and then switch to another character midjump. On occasion, said character would teleport on top of the rock where I needed to go to.

 

So I imagine my girl is basically flailing around until someone gives her a hand up the rocks.
