All I read was Cullen on the battlements and Amell/ Surana arriving on a freaking griffon before stepping off to CLAIM that ****.
Aww, Surana and Amell can go jump off a cliff because Cullen is over them and fully enamored with the Inquisitor. Besides my Amell and Surana was all for Alistair and Zevran.

The darkspawn could be there just because it's a large breakthrough. Why bother to keep making new tunnels without an Archdemon, when there's this awesome rift?
However, the rift is on the edge of civilized lands. Beyond the Gamordan Peaks, to the west, it's just the Sea of Ash and uncharted territories. They don't have prey there. The land is already damaged enough. (Maybe from a proto-darkspawn Blight in the past? *shrug* It's just strange to me that the elves had 'bits of territory in the west' .) And there's only the occasional wandering mad nerd like our dear Frederic de Serault to munch on, in addition to the Grey Wardens. I hadn't thought of that before your post.
Darkspawn patrolling the area while others dig? Perhaps that's what made everything shake? (The Wardens only heard the Song in the thaig itself, though of course the Song could still be causing the rumblings.) The darkspawn clumsily trying to dig through, lacking engineering knowledge?
I can easily picture Zazikel breaking open the Rift in the Western Approach as a courtesy to his still imprisoned brother. "I'm going to give you at tutorial in how to Blight the world and end human civilizations, okay, bro? Watch as I invade the Anderfels, they'll never expect it a second time!"
I wonder if some darkspawn keep digging for other Gods, or if they just want that Song. Depending on the relationship between the Old Gods, they might want back-up, they might not.
And now you've made me be solidly on the 'Archdemon is still down there' train.
You know what I'm looking forward to? Seeing and meeting a fully-fledged Archdemon with the new graphics and everything. Make them as scary and implacable a foe as they deserve.
Yay! Thanks for responding. I was wondering if I'm just crazy, but now I can be like "Well Caddius agrees with me, so at least I'm not the only one who thinks this way."

Yes but in the universe when half of us are tapping the Dread Wolf, Cullen is free as a bird and Alistair was romanced and died saving the world...THIS WORKS.

Lol, I personally was not one for the whole Surana/Amell x Cullen thing. It was just a crush, an infatuation. Although, that idea certainly works in those kind of universes and would be a rather humorous scene!

Hahaha! Yeah, too many headcanons and playthroughs to keep that straight. But eh, Cullen's high and dry in my games. But he won't be. If they let me. Apparently I just want to push a decade + of waiting on one of my characters and their LI. I must've read Persuasion too often.
I'd be stoked if you're right. It just seems interesting to me that the Darkspawn have taken so long to get to it, despite the sheer number of forces they had and still have in the area. If that true, I want to think the creaking is the breath of the Old God. The idea of traipsing around above the very ground it sleeps and not thinking a thing of it.. amazingggg.
Lol, I am still torn between who I want to have as my canon. At this point I am probably going to end up creating two canon romances. O_O What do you mean by that bold print, lol. That sounds rather...intriguing,

Also, the Archdemon beneath the Western Approach.
Dumat: Starts in Deep Roads. As the dwarven kingdoms begin to fall, the darkspawn surge to the surface, invading the massive Tevinter Imperium, more concentrated in the North. Ended in the modern-day border between the Tevinter Imperium and Nevarra, the Silent Plains.
Zazikel: Begins in the Anderfels, first battle the annihilation of Hossberg. Extends to Orlais and Ferelden. Still in the North. Ends at Starkhaven in the Free Marches.
Toth: Starts in modern-day Nevarra and southern Tevinter. Hits Tevinter and Orlais. They hit back much harder. Hits Free Marches particularly hard. Slain at Hunter Fell in modern-day Nevarra.
Andoral: Concentrated in the northeast and northwest of Thedas. Antiva and Free Marches hit very hard. Rivain, Anderfels, all hit. Orlais and Tevinter rebuff invasions forces. Ended at Ayesleigh, then under the control of Antiva.
Urthemiel: Began in the Korcari Wilds, ended in Ferelden. Only ever messed with Ferelden.
The Shaper Codex entries in Origins hint that the dwarves know when a Blight is coming decades in advance. As the dwarves are worn down to exhaustion, the darkspawn numbers swell. It's unclear to me if that's because the Archdemon spends a few years organizing them in advance of the surface invasion, or if that it just requires more of them to be able to break open the cage.
However, it's probably worthy to note that the first time we see Urthemiel in person, he's in the Dead Trenches as part of the Horde's spirit rally. And Paragon Aeducan saw Dumat himself at the head of the horde, underground, in similar circumstances. Archdemons have shown themselves to be extremely tactical, and capable of traveling through the Deep Roads. Urthemiel's choosing Ferelden was actually quite clever on multiple levels, it's just that, well, he wasn't cut out to fight Wardens, apparently. It's possible that the Archdemon in the WA left for better territory. But the Western Approach is a lot like the Korcari Wilds/Hinterlands. Back in the day, it wasn't protected by much in the way of military, it was in the back of the Orlesian Empire. It doesn't make sense to me for the Archdemon to open up a second front where he woke up while starting a war up in the North. It's early days, they don't have that many new broodmothers. He shouldn't split his forces like that early in the game! ![]()
Still think the Archie down in the Western Approach is still stuck down there.
...You know who would probably be great at construction, and magic, and organizing, and getting that bad boy out?
The Architect.

That's one of my biggest logical stumbling blocks for this theory, actually. Then again, darkspawn aren't exactly expert masons/tunnelers, so it might just be taking them a while?
Also, I've been listening to Shake It Off for the last 24 hours. What have you done to meeee?????

"You could ask Patrick to write a happy ending! Command him too!"
Ha! I just watched the Swords and Shields bit today on my second playthrough. Cass is so freaking adorable during those scenes.
When Varric teases her about the next chapter and she does that little gasp "But nothing should happen to her!" That is exactly how I feel about Solas and potential DLC content. Except, of course something bad is going to happen.
Where's our BioWare Inquisitor? Do they have one? And more importantly, can we bribe them with cookies? ![]()

Hush. We do not speak ill of his Royal Fabulousness The Architect. Look at those leather pauldrons.

But yeah he did. He thought it would be a way to finally end the blights. EDIT: To clarify, he did feel REALLY REALLY bad about it. So we were cool at the end.

If they let an unromanced Amell/ Surana get an unromanced Cullen. Given that Dorian can have a relationship with Iron Bull sans any input other than both parties being unromanced, I don't see why that couldn't be put in similarly. Cullen in the War Table banter asks a Leliana who romanced a Surana/ Amell about her and it's gooood. So yeah, they could just hint to it via banter, and I'd be ecstatic.
Omg. It would be the best and most adorable thing. I'm not one for marriage headcanons, but Cullen needs it. What if through DA:I you just get these missives and letters. If the HoF is still alive after Adamant it continues on in DLC and there's like a wedding or just mention of it. I would probably weep. Cullen could carry it all through war table missions and it would still be the sweetest thing ever.

You have made one of the most logical statements in regards of that situation. The Cullen thread got pretty heated when some people came in and were like Cullen was still madly in love with Amell/Surana and was comparing the IQ to her/never would be happy with her. That kind of thing makes me sick and downright disgusted, there are even some fics out there they have Cullen so OCC and have him cheat on the IQ with Surana. If Amell/Surana was unromanced and Cullen was unromanced then I would be all for something like that. *sighs* Do you get what I mean, lol? I personally dealt with being compared to someone else in a relationship and it is a horrible feeling, I really do not want to have to deal with that in a game; so naturally that is a sore/personal situation for me.

Neither was I. Less for the kerfluffle that you mentioned on the Cullen thread, and more because my Amell was...actually kind of a horrible brat in her youth. Think James Potter before he reformed. So she teased Cullen mercilessly despite not being into him; she just thought his crush on her was funny. That made for some spectacular "OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE" when she saw him in Broken Circle, and she basically ran away because she didn't know what to say.
I'd like to think that now, ten years down the line, Cullen and Amell/Surana who are in relationships with other people could be friends. He's over the crush, she's no longer drowning in darkspawn, they're both badass grownups now.

Just thought I'd ask a quick question.
How is it that everybody (except me) knows that all the important characters in DA are heading West after DA:I? I must have missed a memo about that, or just don't remember. I bet I just don't remember, lol. Brain fail....
