Ugh. I will join you on the Fiona hate train. For me it was, "You're the head of the mage rebellion???!!!!? Lord, no wonder it's in dire straits."[didn't Solas say something to that effect when he meets her. i feel like he's aghast at her at some point]. I was so all about Vivienne snarking about her dementia.
Solas was worried for Fiona. I got the impression he liked her (but I'm biased, I'm a big Fiona fangirl).
So, I've been thinking about Solas (duh, I'm posting in this thread, lol) and his personality. Specifically, I've been thinking about the ruthless aspects of Solas, how far he is willing to go to further his plans and how that would impact Lavellan's feelings for him. On the one hand, Solas has a kind side to him, approving when she helps the weak. He's patient with people; he teases Sera when she puts lizards in his sleeping bag instead of becoming angry. He likes to share knowledge and tries to teach the Dalish only to be rejected by them.
On the other hand, the dev notes state that he is willing to kill anyone who gets in the way of his plans. He appears to kill Flemeth, his oldest friend, to gain her power. He's also appears to have a reckless side to his personality in that he gave his orb to Cory. And, yeah, he's the dread wolf that tricked and locked away the gods. So, how would Lavellan feel knowing these facts? Would she view him as ruthless murderer that is willing to consort with evil, Cory, to get what he wants? If given the chance, would she want a romantic relationship with him? Would she kill him if she felt that his plans were harmful? Would Solas kill her if she got in the way?
I haven't answered these questions for myself yet. I'm sort of leaning towards the answer that at minimum, no future romantic relationship would be possible. I don't think she could just overlook how easily he kills his friends, if he did kill Flemeth. Also, I think Solas would kill her if she opposed him. I think that is part of the reason that he broke up with her; he wanted to distance himself from the emotional entanglement in case they had to fight each other in the future.
Neither was I. Less for the kerfluffle that you mentioned on the Cullen thread, and more because my Amell was...actually kind of a horrible brat in her youth. Think James Potter before he reformed. So she teased Cullen mercilessly despite not being into him; she just thought his crush on her was funny. That made for some spectacular "OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE" when she saw him in Broken Circle, and she basically ran away because she didn't know what to say.
I'd like to think that now, ten years down the line, Cullen and Amell/Surana who are in relationships with other people could be friends. He's over the crush, she's no longer drowning in darkspawn, they're both badass grownups now.
Your Amell and my Surana sound like they would've been friends at the Tower. Horrible, bratty, Cullen-teasing friends. Thank goodness they both grew up.

I really don't know how my Lavellan's going to feel about all these revelations until it actually happens. It's going to depend a lot on how she finds out about them I think.

I'm going to have that music playing the next time Solas takes my Lavellan to Heartcrush Cave
I'd like to point out that at any time during the Heartcrush Scene, Lavellan could have opened a Rift and shoved Solas into it. Like, ******, you will stay there until you agree to tell me your secrets and say you're sorry.
He'd have to actually stay there, or be forced to reveal his nature by suddenly appearing in a different location without a nearby rift.

Alright, neither I nor my Lavellan harbor romantic feelings for Solas. But I will still state my view on things:
1) Solas is a killer: Well, she knows that. She might even encourage it. She is after all present for his personal quest -- which, on a side note, has no other reason to exist but only this one, to show her this side of his character. He wants to kill a bunch of ignorant mages for being ignorant and selfish. They did not plan evil, they were just dumb. He wants revenge and Lavellan can grant it to him or not. In any case she is no innocent afterwards, knowing what he would do without so much as a second thought. This will further be fueled after the occurrence, when he will either complain for not being allowed to kill them or not regret it (whatever you chose to do).
2) Solas kills Flemeth: I cannot simply accept this. We see him come to her, absorb something from her, and she collapses. That is not necessarily killing. Both are on good terms, and she had obviously been expecting him. No fight, no struggle. Maybe this was planned, maybe both agreed to it? Flemeth was old in DAO already, in need of a new body. She wanted Morrigan but could no have her. Now it's even 10 years later. Fact is, a human body will fail and I assume Flemeth's body was far overdue. Mythal needs a new host and possibly Solas is simply willing to give it to her. Maybe he is just a vessel until another host is found and Mythal (as well as Flemeth for that matter) agreed to this act. Maybe it is rather a cooperation ("I help you by letting you use my power, you find me a new host and we part ways once it is all over"). At this point we know too little to judge.
3) Fen'Harel tricked the old gods: History is written by the winner. We do not know what happened, we only know a few old and possibly distorted stories told by people who were not there. Maybe he had genuine intentions to help the people. Or even the gods themselves. Maybe he saw them destroy the elves/each other and locked them up to prevent more harm. Similar things are done today with mentally unstable suicidal people.
4) Solas and the orb - yes, that sits wrong with me, too. But again I say: we know too little. We have a lot of theories and people here who make educated guesses. But we know nothing. Neither what exactly happened nor why he gave it to him, if he did. I cannot simply buy any of these theories. I only have to think about myself and my decisions, and how they might appear to other people. Things are not always as they seem.
(5: Solas left her to keep his distance: Maybe he did really what he said, left her because he had been distracting her from what she needed to do in order to save the world. Because I sure as hell got the impression that she was rather blind at times. Dangerous, too dangerous even.)
So to summarize: Lavellan can know what he is willing and able to do -- besides she is pretty much a killer herself, so how to judge him and not be hypocrite? -- and apart from that we just do not know enough. I would not judge and curse people before actually knowing enough of a situation, maybe even their own point of view, and so I also do not judge him.
Well, point being: Hawke did not die. She is left in the Fade, that is all. She never dies in any game. We just don't know. Even the choice way "Hawke will likely die covering your escape" (or such). That's why I said "supposedly". I don't buy it yet.
I think it stays at Skyhold. I think I once checked in the... after game (that sounds weird) and it was still there. Though technically that does not make sense, it belongs to Morrigan.
And I think Hawke does to Weisshaupt because she has some serious bone to pick with the Wardens as a whole, the organization. She has shown quite some agitation . Now, why Hawke? Probably just because we know her. I can deal with her being friends with Stroud, but Loghain and Alistair just make no sense. However, it serves the fans well. I try not to think about this because I cannot assume any "sensible" reason other than relying on known characters for deeper fan immersion.
Back to Weisshaupt: we should not forget how Stroud in DA2 mentions that there is something worse going on than the revolt in Kirkwall. And he did not know about Cory then, so there must be something more fundamentally off with the Wardens, not just a group of them summoning demons. But whatever it is, it is part of the big picture and possibly not revealed for another few games.
Edit: first sentence I don't get. What does it matter if he gets the powers a bit later? Or did you refer to how he came to Flemeth in your previous post (about where to go to by foot)? I had thought you meant where he would go next.
"Actually that doesn't quite fit in my head," as in, I only just then realized that when Solas is heading west, he's heading toward the epilogue confrontation.
Previously, I'd been going off him heading west as him going off to do whatever his big plan is. But he certainly could be capable of flight. *shrug*
And yeah, what was the deal with the Wardens in DA2? Something was going on, but that never really got touched on again.
I'm curious if Hawke will ever show up again. It'd be very sad if there was passing mention of who was left in the Fade. A Codex entry tailored to her or to the Warden, for instance. Mentioning last thoughts being of Fenris and Kirkwall and the like, a continuation of the Nightmares Codex entries. But honestly, against the full force of Nightmare, I don't think even the Hero of Ferelden could win.
It's also possible Bioware set this up just so they wouldn't have fans asking to see her in the next game. ![]()
OH. MY. GOD
Why are you doing this to meeee?!! (I was in line at the postal office I burst out laughing so hard that the cashier gave me this look like "mam, can you please step back and not infect me with your crazy?")
AAAHAHA, and I will never look at him the same way again.
