I'd like to point out that at any time during the Heartcrush Scene, Lavellan could have opened a Rift and shoved Solas into it. Like, ******, you will stay there until you agree to tell me your secrets and say you're sorry.

He'd have to actually stay there, or be forced to reveal his nature by suddenly appearing in a different location without a nearby rift.

LOL "You wanted into the Fade..."

Solas was worried for Fiona.  I got the impression he liked her (but I'm biased, I'm a big Fiona fangirl).

You, I like.

You, I like.

Back before I read the books I kept hearing about how terrible Fiona was.  I read The Calling and liked her and wondered if her actions in Asunder made people hate her.  Read that and saw her as one of the more reasonable characters in book.  She would've even gone back to the Circle if the vote had gone another way.

But I also have a habit of liking characters no-one else does.  Carver, Bianca, Velanna, Fiona...

I do too though not those characters besides fiona  Merrill, Vivienne, Fiona, Wynne, Loghain (Who I'm sorry, but I still kill. Cousland.) Blackwall, and Solas, since before I came here, a lot of people really hated the guy for whatever reason, and I just didn't see why, so that helped make me more agreeable.

I don't do it willingly though. I just happen to like outcasts. They're drawn to me, lol. Ha, I really am like solas, if you think of the forgotten ones as the outcasts  He's kin to them and the other elven pantheon. Though now I'm starting to think that this is simply because they all are kin and maybe Solas was some sort of ambassador before the wars.

I have no idea what the bug is about Fiona. It must have happened while I was off the forums, because I come back and people are saying "everyone hates Fiona" and I'm like... they do? I wish she had been more of a focus in Asunder than that old windbag Wynne, so that there would be a less abrupt transition from her as Warden to First Enchanter, though I know with Rhys as main character, Wynne had to be there. I find the reaction to her decision in Redcliffe irrationally negative.

Also, the Archdemon beneath the Western Approach.

Dumat: Starts in Deep Roads. As the dwarven kingdoms begin to fall, the darkspawn surge to the surface, invading the massive Tevinter Imperium, more concentrated in the North. Ended in the modern-day border between the Tevinter Imperium and Nevarra, the Silent Plains.

Zazikel: Begins in the Anderfels, first battle the annihilation of Hossberg. Extends to Orlais and Ferelden. Still in the North. Ends at Starkhaven in the Free Marches.

Toth: Starts in modern-day Nevarra and southern Tevinter. Hits Tevinter and Orlais. They hit back much harder. Hits Free Marches particularly hard. Slain at Hunter Fell in modern-day Nevarra.

Andoral: Concentrated in the northeast and northwest of Thedas. Antiva and Free Marches hit very hard. Rivain, Anderfels, all hit. Orlais and Tevinter rebuff invasions forces. Ended at Ayesleigh, then under the control of Antiva.

Urthemiel: Began in the Korcari Wilds, ended in Ferelden. Only ever messed with Ferelden.

The Shaper Codex entries in Origins hint that the dwarves know when a Blight is coming decades in advance. As the dwarves are worn down to exhaustion, the darkspawn numbers swell. It's unclear to me if that's because the Archdemon spends a few years organizing them in advance of the surface invasion, or if that it just requires more of them to be able to break open the cage.

However, it's probably worthy to note that the first time we see Urthemiel in person, he's in the Dead Trenches as part of the Horde's spirit rally. And Paragon Aeducan saw Dumat himself at the head of the horde, underground, in similar circumstances. Archdemons have shown themselves to be extremely tactical, and capable of traveling through the Deep Roads. Urthemiel's choosing Ferelden was actually quite clever on multiple levels, it's just that, well, he wasn't cut out to fight Wardens, apparently. It's possible that the Archdemon in the WA left for better territory. But the Western Approach is a lot like the Korcari Wilds/Hinterlands. Back in the day, it wasn't protected by much in the way of military, it was in the back of the Orlesian Empire. It doesn't make sense to me for the Archdemon to open up a second front where he woke up while starting a war up in the North. It's early days, they don't have that many new broodmothers. He shouldn't split his forces like that early in the game!

Still think the Archie down in the Western Approach is still stuck down there.

...You know who would probably be great at construction, and magic, and organizing, and getting that bad boy out?

The Architect.

I thought the Fourth Blight ended in Antiva City?  Out in the harbor?

EEek!  He has been cackling evilly while writing DLC !!!!

tumblr_njlfx7SJkn1u4bdzio1_1280.png

You know, he had a tweet the other day about his favorite kind of character being the villain who thinks he's the good guy.

But there was no context.

And I pray really, really hard that it was in regards to his next Loche book and not DA-related.

I cannot properly like Celene due to her treatment of Briala.  The fact that they do seem to still be in love with each other by the time of DAI helps somewhat, though.

You know what threw a wrench into my supporting Gaspard?

According to a Codex entry in Halamshiral, he (and Florianne) are in their sixties. This means two things to me.

A) Florianne must have been a goddamn ninja of death when she was younger. Or, possibly, Bards work like Jedi, Sith Lords, and wizards, and become more badass with age. Either way, hats off to Lady Florianne. Brienne of Tarth would be proud with the fighting, disgusted with the rest. :P

B) Gaspard isn't going to last that long. Ten, fifteen years before his health declines enough that a coup ensues, I'll bet. Does he have a son? Does he have any sort of heir? A legitimate heir, not some poor weak-kneed cousin who will be overthrown or made a puppet by the Game in a wink?

I'm torn to how I feel about Celene, I have a grudging love/hate relationship with Gaspard, and I like what I've heard of Briala from the book but am a little more cautious about her in the game itself. But, y'know, elves, so. :D

EDIT: Satsumi: Was it in the book? I can't remember. :( But the Fourth Blight definitely ended at Ayseleigh, which is a city in the land connecting mainland Antiva and Rivain. Antiva City is south across Rialto Bay from Ayesleigh and Afsaana. There's even a ballad or two about it. :)

Since we're confessing, I happen to like Loghain, Anora, Gaspard (in the book at least), and Carver. xD Fiona I just happen to pity in DA:I (I thought she was okay in The Calling actually) so I neither hate nor like her. I appreciate that she's finally featured in the game at least. I haven't read Asunder yet so I don't know how she's like there.

And my Solas shirt has arrived!!! I'M SO HAPPY!!! :'D It's so soft and has a nice fit! <3

Gaspard is the realest fucker in that whole country tbh. That's my boy right there. He's a dirty stinking Orlesian Chevalier, but he's a dirty stinking Orlesian Chevalier that the other dirty Orlesian stinkers hate.

So if one wants to see Orlais suffer, why not put the man they hate in charge while helping your own cause at the same time? Lol. Plus, he doesn't like frilly cupcakes. And he coined the term rabbit for elves, and while he meant it as a racial slur, I think I have to take that. That is an adorable petname tbh.

My favourite option is Celene and Briala ruling.  Briala accepting Celene despite everything she did to her redeems Celene a great deal in my eyes; and, with her relationship with Briala now public and Briala being given a title, Celene finally keeps her promise to Bria.  Together they keep leading the country towards peace and help the elves.

However, if Celene hadn't been so stubborn and just married Gaspard in the first place then that would've been great.  She was willing to marry Calin, so her sexuality conflict with Gaspard's parts shouldn't have been too much of an issue.

I like Gaspard. The way he greets me and suggests to annoy the nobility by walking in arm in arm is just too stylish.

And on a serious note, this is not about liking for me. It's politics and I choose who I see best suited to do the job in the current situation. I tend to act regarding the problem at hand and then reconsider, if needed, once that is solved. Not one of them washes his hands in innocence.

If we're using the likelihood of producing heirs as a measure of rulership, then both Gaspard and Celene are horrible choices. Gaspard's too old, and Celene's a lesbian and unwilling to marry, especially if you reunite her with Briala.

I had a really hard time deciding who I prefered to rule. I like them all, but they're all three awful in their own ways. But in the end I went with Celene + Briala, because Celene supported education and the arts, and Briala for the elves.

Oh ****, you guys I just realized something about Cassy and solas!

Spoilers spoilers spoilers

The reason that Solas treats Cass so well is becuase she's possessed by a spirit of faith. During her quest you find out that she was made tranquil during her seeker training, and that the tranquility can be reversed through spirit possession. And the've known this for years! Cole even said it was a spirit of faith that possessed her!
So what if it's like with Wynne, and all along what makes seekers so powerful is the fact that they've attached themselves to spirits!? And that's the actual reason Solas respects and encourages her, cause of the spirit attached to her!?

No worries, she's not possessed. They just touch their mind, then go on their merry way.

Solas respects her because she's a strong willed and dedicated person. No matter who your gods are, I think anyone could admire such traits. Solas may even relate, with his dedication to a cause of his own.

Celene should pull a Tyrdda Bright-Axe and find herself a hunky Hendir from among the ranks of the dwarves. I hear the Head Shaper is single. :P

But yeah, succession crises all around. Just like Ferelden back in Origins. *wipes away tear* The good old days of infertile Wardens, possibly infertile Queen, man-ho Cailan, and being able to safely mock the Orlesians from across the safety of the Frostbacks.

I think Celene+Briala is also going to be one of my usual choices, with one Gaspard+Briala making it through for export to DA4 as a major playthrough. :D

Orlais's...done enough in the aggressive military expansion for now, I think. They've made enemies of all of Thedas. Celene has been trying to make Ferelden an ally/client kingdom, so that's something, right? :P

I don't think Cass's possessed.

Asunder spoilers:

Spoiler

Cass was possessed for a time, yes, but that doesn't last. All she needed was a touch.

She doesn't have to be spirit possessed for Solas to like her either  . There's lots of things about her to like even without that.

Honestly... that just breaks my brain and makes me dislike Orlesians even more. I would not even be able to stand being in the same room with a person who killed my parents in order to advance their political career and then lied about it for years while using me for sexual healing. In fact the chances of murder knife would be very, very high. Much as I want to like Briala, I can only grasp that by concluding she's as sociopathic as the nobles around her and hence not a good steward of elven secrets.

So, I like Gaspard better, because what you see is what you get. He offered Celene a way to reconcile and she wouldn't have it because of her scruples and dislike of him, and then she liquidates an alienage to restore her political standing after the inevitable backlash to that decision.
