No wait, he's writing a novel right?
*relieved sigh*
On Bioware's dime? I dun think so. If he was at work where Mary Kirby could hear, he was probably working on Bioware related stuff.

I don't know what Flabba was showing everyone that made everyone's eyes need bleach, but don't any of you dare quote it on this page. I'm scared to read back now.
Also Gaspard.

Well, ****.
Celene should pull a Tyrdda Bright-Axe and find herself a hunky Hendir from among the ranks of the dwarves. I hear the Head Shaper is single.
But yeah, succession crises all around. Just like Ferelden back in Origins. *wipes away tear* The good old days of infertile Wardens, possibly infertile Queen, man-ho Cailan, and being able to safely mock the Orlesians from across the safety of the Frostbacks.
I think Celene+Briala is also going to be one of my usual choices, with one Gaspard+Briala making it through for export to DA4 as a major playthrough.
Orlais's...done enough in the aggressive military expansion for now, I think. They've made enemies of all of Thedas. Celene has been trying to make Ferelden an ally/client kingdom, so that's something, right?
Yeah, Orlais's gotta learn to take care of the lands they already have before they even think about conquering more. Not that that's stopped a lot of empires in the past, but at least in this one fictional instance, we can hope ![]()
And yey for succession chaos wracking the whole of Southern Thedas
. The Taint needs to be cured soon

Well, I use Facebook at school too. Why can't he write his novel at work, huh? HUH?

At least they're doing better than Kirkwall when it comes to succession.
KIRKWALL: Let's get started on selecting a new Visc-
MEREDITH: No.
HAWKE: *sighs*
Meredith seizing control of the city made me irrationally angry back in the day. ![]()

EDIT: At least they don't seem to be using gavelkind anymore. Gavelkind is the worst.
(As Maferath can tell you.)
Celene should have just married Gaspard. I would have.
But it's awesome! You'll like it!

But I'd never be caught dead using Facebook at work.

I hope they do try it. Let them overextend themselves and underestimate the rest of thedas. They'll crumble for sure, before they ever get that far. Ferelden will unite with the free marches, and the elves, Antiva, the dwarves possibly too if they're smart enough to see orlais won't stop at the surface. But then, they didn't give much of a response to even the fourth blight. So maybe not.
All they need is a decent resistance, enough for Tevinter or the qun to see this as an opportunity to strike, and Orlais will eventually back down, possibly even lose land.
You know what threw a wrench into my supporting Gaspard?
According to a Codex entry in Halamshiral, he (and Florianne) are in their sixties. This means two things to me.
A) Florianne must have been a goddamn ninja of death when she was younger. Or, possibly, Bards work like Jedi, Sith Lords, and wizards, and become more badass with age. Either way, hats off to Lady Florianne. Brienne of Tarth would be proud with the fighting, disgusted with the rest.
Gaspard isn't going to last that long. Ten, fifteen years before his health declines enough that a coup ensues, I'll bet. Does he have a son? Does he have any sort of heir? A legitimate heir, not some poor weak-kneed cousin who will be overthrown or made a puppet by the Game in a wink?
I'm torn to how I feel about Celene, I have a grudging love/hate relationship with Gaspard, and I like what I've heard of Briala from the book but am a little more cautious about her in the game itself. But, y'know, elves, so.
EDIT: Satsumi: Was it in the book? I can't remember.
But the Fourth Blight definitely ended at Ayseleigh, which is a city in the land connecting mainland Antiva and Rivain. Antiva City is south across Rialto Bay from Ayesleigh and Afsaana. There's even a ballad or two about it.
I'll go back and reread Last Flight. It's been a while. I'll get back to you if no one else has.

Everywhere's better than Kirkwall. Well maybe not Minrathous, but I'm reserving judgment for now.
Not that there's still anyone in Ferelden or Orlais to inherit under gavelkind ![]()

Doesn't Gaspard invade Ferelden if you put him in power?

Yeesh, but losing that land to either Tevinter or the Qun doesn't sound like the better option. Ferelden though...
That would be such sweet sweet irony

I can see it. Orlais, feeling strong with the Inquisition revitalizing the White Chantry, begins to push against Nevarra and Ferelden. Just as they start to run out of gas, the Tevinter Imperium and the Marcher resistance decide to go for total war, all while Ferelden stubbornly resists all invasion attempts.
Then the elven revolution hits. Then the peasants. Then the Horned Knight rides out of the Tirashan on a red lyrium death-halla and sacks Val Royeaux at the head of an army of forest creatures, like sylvans and Forgotten-cultist-red-lyrium-ninja elves, and Ewoks.
What? I'd buy that DLC. ![]()
EDIT: With Briala in power, I never had to worry about Gaspard invading. I understand that if you have Josephine conduct negotiations with Ferelden for Gaspard, because he admits he sucks at that, then there's no war.
............
You cannot resist the calling
You cannot resist the calling
Try telling that to the Hero of Ferelden. ![]()

I think it depends on if you do the war table mission for peace talks, though I'm not sure since I just read that somewhere

I wouldn't mind because both tevinter and the qun still have eachother to keep them in check, and I doubt one would ever let the other grow so powerful. If they got any truly serious gains, the other would push harder to make sure the beast won't outgrow them.
And I'll play like the elves of old and watch them die with glee.
Try telling that to the Hero of Ferelden.
Or Fiona.
Pssh, Fiona cheated. And the HoF's special. We are but mere mortals

Pah! One needs a strong enemy to oppose to! That mobilizes your people and keeps them always vigilant and motivated. Besides it distracts well from domestic issues. Just imagine the people would feel too comfortable and start questioning their leaders!
What would the world do without their proclaimed "bad guys"? A new enemy would have to be found to make up for it. And who to pick then? Like... Iceland? Or Belgium? And all the energy it takes to build up a new enemy image...
The devil that we know...
