Avernus also mentions that he's been seeing the Black City in his dreams, and that he just knows that it's connected to the Taint. Also that the Taint is foreign to demons.

I guess this could imply he just delayed his Calling by magicking his blood and telling it, 'Not today,'.

Right, we've never seen a Tainted spirit (Justice doesn't count, he's had two bodies), which I think reinforces the idea that the Taint comes from the Void, since spirits are beings of the Fade

Here's a fan video I made dedicated to the women of Dragon Age.  It stars my Lavellan.  It's not really Solas related, but I hope you guys enjoy it regardless  ^_^

(warning: the song has some profanity)

If anyone gets mad that it's not, blame me since I asked her to share it here ;) It's awesome, lol. I love the Cass moments too

The answer to the blight's got to be in the black city.

Dumat: The Hero of Ferelden. For obvious reasons. :D

Zazikel: Hawke. EVERYTHING goes to chaos when she shows up.

Toth: Velanna. Because fire and anger.

Andoral: Fenris. Andoral is a hipster Old God who loves irony, apparently.

Urthemiel: Dorian. Urthemiel approves of the mustache.

Razikale: Morrigan. She loves them ancient mysteries.

Lusacan: Merril. Because she deserves a field trip.

Black City, Take Two DLC confirmed.  B)

Yeah, I put a lot of Cass moments in it  ^_^ I'll admit to being biased towards her.

Did the Architect ever explain how he managed that? I can't remember, was too shocked by broodmother

Red lyrium's just blighted lyrium, so it's a matter of whether lyrium or the blight came first

My money's on the blight. The Last Flight opens the possibility that it was created magically, maybe even by bloodmagic.

Not by human bloodmagic though, not if the blight is actually older than those ancient magisters- The old gods taught them blood magic- yeah, or possibly the Forbidden Ones..

Giving them Grey Warden blood.

If he wasn't a Magister, maybe he was just an Emissary dying on the battlefield when a Grey Warden accidentally dropped some blood into his open mouth?

(I'm just kidding. He's a Magister, along with Alphonse and Coryflora. :P )

I mean, there's probably more to the ritual. The Warden Joining requires lyrium and mages messing with the Fade, which is all kinds of brow-raising. Especially since they used some old Arlathan knowledge in designing the ritual.

Also jungle tribal cannibalism. You use what you got, I guess.

But I love the thought of the Architect reenacting the Joining for Urthemiel.

"Join us, brothers and sisters,"

"RAAAWWR!"

"in the shadows where we stand vigilant,"

*sound of fiery explosions*

"Fine. FINE! You are now a Grey Warden! *chucks the bottle at him and runs*"

If only he'd been able to pull a Duncan v Jory for that particular failed recruit...

Hmm. I wonder what would happen if a darkspawn slew an Archdemon. Presumably, it would pop into an nearby vessel. This could help them make a quick escape from those crazy Warden guys.

But what if it was one of the Seven? Presuming they still have their souls? What on earth would happen then?

Who would be in control? It was implied in Legacy that the Seven were wandering around, Awakening style, leading small armies of darkspawn. But they seem to cool their heels between Blights, and we've only known of the Architect being active in recent years. What gives?

If I remember correctly, he basically puts the darkspawn through a joining. Only instead of archdemon blood, he uses the blood of grey wardens. It doesn't cure them, but it disrupts the song.

I am not sure how he releases grey wardens from the song. Possibly by having them ingest more darkspawn blood? Or only Wardens who have succumbed to the Calling are applicable.

There's also these notations from the architect:

-What happens if the Old Gods perish? Does the song die with them?

-The blood is the key. The blood is always the key.

-The female elf is accommodating, allowing me to take her blood for my work. Perhaps she thinks I'll release her if she cooperates.

-My disciples report that another elf is rampaging through the woods, killing humans. Revenge for what we did to her kind, only she hasn't seen through the Seeker's ruse. We'll keep this from Seranni. If she is upset, she may stop cooperating.

-Perhaps I should have killed it while it slept.

And his journal:

The Seeker collected two elves, male and female. The rest died defending their camp. Unfortunate, but a small price to pay. The male has since dashed his head on the wall. Odd. Don't all living beings strive for survival?

The Seeker confessed that he did more than simply collect the elves. He found the elves and humans at odds, then exacerbated the conflict by making the humans look responsible for the two elves disappearances. He said he wanted to see how the elf leader would react. Odd again.

The female elf has developed a...bond of sorts with her guard. Many of the other disciples seem drawn to her as well. The Seeker says her name is Seranni. Perhaps I should speak to her. Maybe she will understand.

Random musings...
Coryphyshit and friends found it in the Black City. According to him they embraced its power. How did it get there? Connection to the Void?
Become corrupted by coming into direct contact with the corruption (darkspawn blood works great).
It has it's own power that darkspawn emissaries draw on to cast magic.
The Architect was able to create amulets that sped up the corruption process. If you can manipulate it in such a way what's to say you couldn't find some way to reverse that process.
The Architect would be the one I'd want to talk to about finding a cure.

Red lyrium.....red lyrium...Solas asks Varric if the dwarves had studied lyrium at all. You'd think they'd know a thing or two about it along with the fact that it is in fact alive and capable of becoming corrupted.

The Architect's note: "The blood is the key. The blood is always the key."

Maybe that's how the Old God prisons are opened? With blood? And maybe the blood used in that opening is what taints them?

Just a thought.

The last flight spoiler

Spoiler

Hmm. I guess I need to read Last Flight.

I still think there's got to be something else- something big- we haven't yet encountered- I just imagine this dark, vile, corrupt mass just oozing evil gross blood and infecting the water (lyrium) supply and all of the gods that are trapped in the void.

If I pretend that the Forgotten ones = The Tevinter old gods, but that there's something else down there, something way way way worse than any evil we've seen so far...and it's what's causing the blights by it's...oozy essence infecting the remaining forgotten/old gods and turning them into creepy archdemons. It's what's corrupting the lyrium, the darkspawn, everything.

That much is obvious I think, with the darkspawn and such. And now I wonder if the architect's experiments awakened the old god in a weakened state, since his tainting was different, and not just darkspawn taint. I assume, if he was trying some funny stuff with the joining.

Well, you already know I agree. I'm still a fan of the taint originally being the collective old god hivemind essence. The source of their god mojo. A collective foci if you will.

I tried to make a Fenris lookalike Lavellan, just cause I miss the broody elf's face. Wish there was a Gideon Emery style voice to go with him....*drool*. Might need to have another shot, just to fix the nose and tweak the proportions a little. Fairly happy with my effort though.

We kind of need an excuse for Urthemiel's shortcomings.

Avejaved: Sort of like an eldritch abomination that lives in the Void? With the Blight breaking through in red lyrium, much like tears in the Veil allow spirits and weird magical crap from the Fade to come through?

Also, every time I see 'Avejaved' I mutter, Azar Javed to myself in a cheesy accent and giggle. ^_^  Or I shout, "Ave, Javed!" and presumably get incinerated for my impertinence.

Speaking of Fenris and his lyrium tattoos-

Can someone remind me: Do all of the slaves in Tevinter have them? Well, not all of the slaves, but some? And are they marked with special designs relating to who owns them or are they random?

We really do... XD The last Flight really made him (or her) seem like a total ******... The fourth blight wasn't a war, it was combating a force of nature. There rarely was any real "fighting" going on. There was retreat, more retreat, and keeping your head above water while the badass griffons did the majority of the real work.

Being the god of art and beauty or whatever, I guess you couldn't expect much, lol.

I'm annoyed it has to be Avejajed.

I've used Dejajeva for years- YEARS- and then when we used my husband's email for our xbox live when we first got together I was forced into changing my name on here. The moderators were less than helpful in letting me keep my original name or deleting my old one. Then when I deleted my last account (in a fairly epic rage quit) my history there was wiped. So really I've been here since

I don't believe they do. From what I understood from Fenris, the process used to create him was extremely time intensive and excruciating. He was so valuable to Denarius because of the effort and money used to create them. I wouldn't be surprised if there's one or two more of them though.

A theory is that it is possible that slaves in Arlathan were similarly fitted with lyrium tattoos, possibly so that they could be commanded. It is also possible that the Forgotten One cultist elves use red lyrium tattoos.
