Yeah, but I still hate the whole, "I'm 50 years old and still a child" thing. A certain amount of maturity comes as a result of life experience. Having lived 50 years and still be a child is creepy. That was also my problem with Space Elves the Asari. Liara just didn't act like someone who had been alive for over 100 years.

This is all coming from my very human lifespan-centric perspective, of course. But the haughty immortal elf thing is still one of my least favourite fantasy tropes. The reason I like DA elves is that they subvert that.

I never really liked Tolkien's elves beyond their aesthetics too, mostly because they're too ideal and ethereal. But that was kind of Tolkien's point so, *shrug*

DA elves though, they're awesome. They're oppressed and they used to have this whole kingdom stretched across the whole of Thedas, which as it turns out was just as corrupt as Tevinter and Orlais, maybe even more so, and point is they're not some unreachable ideal all other races should aspire to be, but they're just as human as the rest of them

About solas being only for female elves. Whether he is bi or not is up to the writers and that includes their reasoning about the time limits they had. Solas' gender preference now, after the characters presented him to us, is straight until otherwise noted. Its no longer about being unfair to how they treat sex/gender, because we know that bioware is open to it. Its that ppl dislike having less options and do not respect the choices the people who made them chose.

I'm peeved when people complain just because there's a limit. Wish solas were bisexual? OK. But acknowledge the character that was presented to you. If you can't do that its just more whining.

Fenris I thought was better as a straight character. Anders being bi or just gay made sense. I think them forcing 'bisex' for players just doesn't work. they tried & realized it was not working in da2. This is an argument about pleasing people or making a great well developed character.

Fenris being bi made perfect sense.  Stop forcing your straight on me. :P

All this talk of the ancient elves - i really want an ancient arthlathan DLC.  Like something before the fall and leading up to it.  that would be so neat.  mostly because i just want to see dour, haughty elve/gods snarking at eachtoher.  also young!solas.

yessssss. Wolf Hunt, and Fen'Harel's Song please

I wish the wiki for DA wasn't so garish so I could look at it all day at work and everyone around me think I'm looking at some really professional website totally related to work.

Yeah.  I think Uthenera was a necessity, because mentally - living for that long - must have been exhausting.  We met Solas and Abelas - they aren't exactly unfeeling or cold.  They can be emotionally compromised and fairly easily.  Imagine dealing with that for thousands of years.  Sleep must have been a blessing at points.

Though I agree with Jello - I don't understand how they could function as a slave-based empire with immortal slaves. I know immportality doesn't equal power, but after hundreds of years SOMETHING should have happened. It's just what happens in those situations.  Unless there were bloody uprisings and bloody cullings.  Which I would believe.  Arlathan kind of sounds like it really wasn't all that great if you weren't in the upper echelons of society.

We know that Uthenera requires some preparation and care from the living, so I do agree with jellobell that it was probably not something available to everyone. Which also makes elven slavery so much worse. A slave owner could keep you forever, and just wear you out until you were a husk. Look at how emo Abelas is simply from seeing successive generations go by with more and more loss. If you had no hope of breaking out of that, and no hope of an afterlife... All of this would make Solas trying to do something about it much more sympathetic, even if the consequences were also bad. The system would have been intolerably cruel.

I'm thinking my first playthrough of any DLC will be with a non-Lavellan character just in case things go horribly, horribly wrong. Then I can just never play through it with her and pretend nothing more ever happened. If it turns out to be a feel-good, power of friendship type of DLC then I would be both shocked and relieved.

Those of us not on Xbox will know everything there is to know about the DLC before we get it, so I'm not worried about that. Though I am bitter.  :pinched:

Eternal slavery...

Somehow, the horror never really sunk in until I read your post.

Maybe it's that Fenris fic I read earlier.

Neat!

Technically, we're not allowed to use the internet at work anymore, but we're exploiting a loophole: We are allowed to browse gaming-related websites  and claim that's checking out what our competition is doing and therefore it's work-related. ;)

I wish there were more opportunities for sarcasm in DA:I. My Lavellan is much more trollish than my virtuous Hawke. I can understand why they didn't go the route considering they gave us two speaking voice options. But I do wish they had committed a bit more to the character responses. Most of them feel a bit more neutral. Even more neutral than they do in mass effect.

IKR?

My male elf Inquisitor was supposed to be a bit sarcastic but some of the lines they had were a bit...bland?

According to the artist's comments, she'll probably make one of Solas but based on the Tower card. Would be neat if she did one of his Hermit or Hierophant card though.

EDIT: And if anyone wants something for laughs, here's a little Solavellan comic featuring a sexually frustrated Lavellan. This was probably posted before but it's pretty funny albeit a bit NSFW. xD

Hehe that comic.  :P

I'm too soft hearted to ever want to punch someone. Except that guy from Overlord. That was a very satisfying punch.

Don't forget the Reporter... Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani. Now that is a satisfying punch too.

So annoyed that it's impossible to change the color of Cole's vest on high tier armors.  Or the ones I want to use, anyway.

Fenris being bi made perfect sense.  Stop forcing your straight on me. :P

When Gaider said he wrote Fenris' romance with m/m in mind, that kind of clicked as making more sense. And hence, since he was the only LI that interested me, none of the romances in DA2 appealed to me that much. I just can't relate to s/s attraction so it has no story appeal.

Oh wow, we're at page 2900

And talking about slavery and various other emo subjects. Solassians unite in being grim and fatalistic.  B)

But dat swag.

Random question: is anyone else kind of burned out after only one PT? I put my second on hold after arriving at Skyhold to play something else (Murdered: Soul Suspect). Now I'm done with that and thinking about tackling another one of my Steam games I never had the time to play until I broke my foot.

I REALLY want to get the Cassandra romance going and I haven't seen Morrigan's son yet, but somehow I can't motivate myself.

I've got three playthroughs down, I just try to do different stuff each time, but I never did a "complete" PT on any of them.

I agree. That's why I loved the DA elves.  They seem more grounded.   BW seems to be swinging the other way  though because Solas and def. Abelas are riding the haughty-elf trope train all the way to Mirkwood.  So if we get any others in the pantheon pops up, I look forward to rolling my eyes at the "Your culture is garbage and look at how amazing we are even though we've driven ours into the ground." speech.

I'm burned out on the third. Haven't been playing a great deal at all really. I will later, but other stuff seems more entertaining at the moment. Probably will go back to Vampire: The Masquerade before I play DA I more.
