If anyone doesn't have a temple it's Ghilan'nan. I really don't like her for some reason. She's the only one who we know for sure wasn't a god to begin with. June's the only other questionable one. Nothing like that has ever been rumored about Fen'harel.

I believe theory comes from the fact that Mythal is shown holding five children- which are all the elven gods attributed to her. The only remainder is Elgar'nan, and Ghilan'nain. So Ghilan'nain and Fen'Harel presumably came from an alternate source. Either he was uplifted like Ghilan'nain, or he's his own entity unrelated to the pantheon. At least, he was not brought into being through Mythal and Elgar'nan.

I wonder if he was some very powerful, important priest of Mythal either raised up or was tasked with something that ultimatly failed. Hes now trying to fix that mistake..

We know that Uthenera requires some preparation and care from the living, so I do agree with jellobell that it was probably not something available to everyone. Which also makes elven slavery so much worse. A slave owner could keep you forever, and just wear you out until you were a husk. Look at how emo Abelas is simply from seeing successive generations go by with more and more loss. If you had no hope of breaking out of that, and no hope of an afterlife... All of this would make Solas trying to do something about it much more sympathetic, even if the consequences were also bad. The system would have been intolerably cruel.

Those of us not on Xbox will know everything there is to know about the DLC before we get it, so I'm not worried about that. Though I am bitter.  :pinched:

Still catching up...

This sounds like a fine reason for Solas to strip elves of their immortality itself.

Sure he was a god, but it depends on your definition of a god.  Solas doesn't seem to think he was, though.

Well he wouldn't, would he. He's not the type to get all vain about it, at least not anymore.

Either way, he is now if he wasn't then.

I couldn't either. I love Dorian too much and Cole's kills me. i feel like if cole said that to you, you'd have to recognize you were an irredeemable piece of trash.  i can't be mean in these games.

i did laugh when dorian went down.  but afterwards, as he leave. no.

I dunno.    I think you just act like a jerk.  Pretty much just be incredibly selfish and horrible.

I have a hard time comparing Fenris and Solas in terms of tragedy, because the scale is so different.  Fenris is tragic on a personal level, but he can be happy, also on a personal level.  This is true, with or without Hawke.  Solas is tragic on an epic scale, and while he has the potential to be happy, I don't know if he'll let himself.

My canon Lavellan was the most well-adjusted, normal, happy elf that Thedas had possibly ever seen.  Naturally she romanced Solas, pff.

My Lavellan is the same! For months before DAI I'd planned her to be a bright, happy, relatively well-adjusted and cheerful PC. Just so she could be mega different from my stoic Cousland and my douchey Hawke and their horrible, terribly sad family circumstances. And then, of course, I HAD to choose the most angst-tastic romance possible!!

To be fair to myself, I chose Solas back in like February or March 2014. There's no way I could have known.

It. Just. Friggin. Figures.

On the bright side, her character type bounces well off of Solas. I think he needs a relentlessly positive force in his life.  :D

Well he wouldn't, would he. He's not the type to get all vain about it, at least not anymore.

I don't think that him saying that he believes the elven gods to have been gods is vanity if it's true. But he obviously doesn't believe it. And given the kinds of things they got up to, he's right that they don't seem to deserve to be called gods. He also doesn't seem like he wants the title for himself.

And Solas doesn't come across as god-like at all. Immortality does not a god make, and power-wise he's rather diminished. He's also one of the most "human" characters that Bioware's ever made. He isn't remote or unknowable, like gods are supposed to be. Even gods from polytheistic religions stay separate from their mortal followers.

Either way, he is now if he wasn't then.

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

Well....he's diminished now. The fact that his orb of godly power caused the breach and the mark in the Inquistor's hand and STILL had juice left over is pretty terrifying.

I wonder how he'll be now that he's sucked out some Flemythal. Will it help him get back to full strength?

I think the thing about whether Solas acts "god-like" or "arrogant" gets complicated because Solas flips back and forth on a lot of things. At one moment he acts vain and all-knowing and above others and at another moment he's harshly knocking himself, the Elven pantheon and the ancient elves despite expressing desire for the past to return and expressing admiration for the simple individual. I think he just doesn't know what he wants.  I imagine those conflicting feelings will play into his future action or inaction in some manner.

To be fair to Solas' "arrogance"....the guy is really friggin old. I feel like it's kind of hard not to come off as arrogant when you know so much more than others. Not because you're better but simply because you've been around longer and know the truth while others fumble with it. If I was thousands of years old, I would probably scoff at the young people too to an extent.

Perhaps. Not sure what "full strength" will look like, though. Maybe eating Mythal will let him turn into a dragon.

But is a person a god because they have incredible power and immortality? I mean, Cory had both of those. I still don't see Solas as a god.

Why do you think the mark on the inquisitors hand remains after the orb is broken and the breach is sealed? Is the mark connected more to Solas than the orb itself?

Yay for happy, well-adjusted Lavellans!  Never mind in Dragon Age, my Lavellan is probably my kindest, happiest, most well-adjusted PC in any RPG I've played.  I think they all sense that Solas needs a bit of sunshine in his grumpy life

Merrill and Zevran don't count?

I was mostly thinking of the DA:I cast. But yes, Merrill and Zev do count. We can start the Cheery Elf Posse and run around Thedas being beautiful, adorable, fabulous badasses.

Fenris can be our token cranky friend, but only if he brings booze and eases up on the chest-punching.
