I don't think that him saying that he believes the elven gods to have been gods is vanity if it's true. But he obviously doesn't believe it. And given the kinds of things they got up to, he's right that they don't seem to deserve to be called gods. He also doesn't seem like he wants the title for himself.

And Solas doesn't come across as god-like at all. Immortality does not a god make, and power-wise he's rather diminished. He's also one of the most "human" characters that Bioware's ever made. He isn't remote or unknowable, like gods are supposed to be. Even gods from polytheistic religions stay separate from their mortal followers.

What do you mean?

Why would someone pretending to be a normal apostate elf willingly show any godlike characteristics? That's why I say he cannot be trusted. We have no idea what he's like when he's just being himself because he wasn't being himself, he was being a hobo elf from some remote village somewhere and we certainly have no idea what was like when he was younger.

And he is pretty remote. He doesn't willingly share information on himself, only on the fade, and even those memories you can not trust because you don't know if he saw it in the fade or if he was really there or anything. And that's only meta knowledge anyway.

Maybe he is exactly like he shows to us when he's not hiding his identity, but we don't know for sure until he isn't hiding his identity.

What I mean by that last statement, about what he thinks about himself or other "gods" of the Pantheon not mattering is that a huge group of people still worship them as gods, even if they aren't. I don't know that they would ever believe anything else because they have thousands of years of being taught that they were. The Dalish just wouldn't be able to dismiss their entire religion and belief system because Solas doesn't think he's actually a god. Their believing he's a god makes him a god to them

I think we can say for certain that at his weakest Solas is just as powerful as the inquisitor if not more so. That's pretty powerful, imo. And that's at his weakest? I'm saying I think he could be terrifying at full power.

And we've all gone in circles over this before but our opinions of what makes a god and what makes something worth worshiping is all personal conjecture anyway so none of us can really say for certain.

I think the Anchor's the Inquisitor's now

Coryflora stated, that the Anchor is permanent. Figures, it won't go away, no matter what

Cornflakes also didnt think that the orb or he himself would be destroyed lol If the anchor is the quizzy, why did solas leave to find a new source of power?

There's a tiny faerie door?!

It's very cute!  With flowers and a tiny signpost.  I don't remember the exact location, but it's close to a wooden bridge.

Somebody wanted Dorian being punched - hilarious

Spoiler

Cole leaving - this is too upsetting

Spoiler

How is it even possible to anger Cole that much?  His approval is so easy to get!  And Dorian.  How can anyone bring themselves to treat him like that?

I... have to go play DAI and be nice to them right now.

Even if Solas *could* somehow separate the Anchor from the Inquisitor or use its power, I don't think he would, especially if doing so would kill or jeopardize the Inquisitor.  It's a terrible violation of the Inquisitor's person and freedom, and I don't think he'd do it even if he wasn't terribly fond of them.

The power in the Anchor might also be "locked," so to speak.  Maybe the orb was a repository of raw magical power, like a battery.  But what's left of it is the Anchor, not a battery.  It functions as a key, and can't be forced into any other function.

Well.. I've gone through two complete PTs in DAI. Female mage Lavellan for Solas the very first PT and Female human dagger rogue for Collen the second. I started another female mage Lavellan for Solas to try and get all the stuff I missed in my first PT but I stopped right before Coryfish attacks Haven and decided to wait for DLC so I made a female Qunari mage for Iron Bull but I got bored really fast. Qunari are just no fun for me.

Then I decided to play ME again and romanced Garrus. I killed Kaidan so I wouldn't be tempted but I really don't like Ash..so I started playing it again to romance Kaidan and kill Ash. I'm in the middle of ME2 now..romancing Thane while I wait for Kaidan to stop being an arse.

Then..you all started talking about Mods for DAO...so I stopped playing ME and now I'm playing a heavily modded DAO... female elf mage who had a thing for Cullen but and then met Alistair and fell in love with him instead. I'm planning on keeping him a Grey Warden this time since I've always make him king in my other PTs.

I'm rambling I know you all don't care..lol. My laptop is pissing me off though..either all those mods are upsetting it or my lappy is just being an arse. It keeps crashing the game...grrr!!!

That is so funny. I have plans for playing Mass Effect after I'm done with my current playthrough, my cannon Lavellan. I was also planning on killing Kaidan for the same reasons, are you saying that Ash makes the decision not worth it? Because then I may have to rethink my approach.

Oh god, so it is possible to ****** them all off enough to have them leave? I didn't know. That's awesome... in a way. But none of them tries to murder you like in DAO, right? Man, was I surprised when Zevran attacked me. I had no idea I was being particularly mean to him.

Damn, poor Dorian. Seeing him like that is almost a physical pain. My most emotional moment in the game was his friendship speech. I almost cried. I did cry for real when I listened to the audio stream of Morrigan and Alistair about Kieran a few days ago. Lol?

Solas breakup? Nah! But I lost it at Morrigan's vulnerable side. Damn you, Bioware, for sneaking up on me like that!

Yay for happy, well-adjusted Lavellans!  Never mind in Dragon Age, my Lavellan is probably my kindest, happiest, most well-adjusted PC in any RPG I've played.  I think they all sense that Solas needs a bit of sunshine in his grumpy life

Are people talking about happy Lavellans?  My Lavellan is pretty cheerful, and not in the 'I'm repressing everything bad, oh god I hope no-one see how screwed up I am' way my Hawke and Surana are.  I like way a cheerful Lavellan brings out a different side of Cass and Solas.  Those two need to lighten up.

I keep hoping Alix will surprise me and do sarcastic as well as Jo Wyatt but it's not happening, so the sarcastic wit just never seems on point.

So my Lavellan is sort of wry/happy?

Hmm, I'm not sure if I believe this. I was always under the impression that Solas was rather strangely open about being himself, considering the circumstances and who he really is. I think what we saw was really him and I don't think he was taking on the full persona of a hobo elf and just acting out everything.

Even if he was hiding some things, I wouldn't expect to suddenly see a whole new Solas come future games. Presenting a compelling and flawed character and then scrapping everything about him to say he was just acting wouldn't go over all that well.

Most of my friends are a few years older than me at least, and they're all at the point where they're starting to have children.  Morrigan, Flemeth, and Kieran sucker-punched me right in the feels.

I was just reading this and found it hysterical when they got to the "It was a perfectly normal mortal human laugh!" bit. Of course... the fact that the cackle was done in the writer's pit. Uh-oh.

A reference to Guardians of the Galaxy perhaps???

Eh, I don't agree. Weekes himself said that he tried to show you as much of himself as he could. His personality isn't a lie. The only thing he's obscuring is his identity as the person the Dalish know as the Dread Wolf.

Also not sure what you mean about "godlike characteristics". Not being relatable? Pridefulness? The beauty of Solas is that he's a person. He isn't infallible. He often makes mistakes. And when he realizes he's wronged someone he apologizes. In any religion, gods may be given human-like characteristics, but they are fundamentally unknowable by mortals. The concept of the sacred (anthropologically speaking) is to be in a category apart from regular life. Solas doesn't fit that at all.

What I mean by that last statement, about what he thinks about himself or other "gods" of the Pantheon not mattering is that a huge group of people still worship them as gods, even if they aren't. True. But the Inquisitor is a godlike figure to those weirdoes squatting in the abandoned castle in the Hinterlands, and my Inquisitor definitely doesn't consider herself to be a god. I see the situation with Solas and the Dalish sort of the same way.

Damn, I really need to finish my fic. Solas showing godlike traits, freckles and now an earth mother Sollavellen?

Am I broadcasting telepath or is it just the collective subconscious or the bloomin' Zeitgeist?

And this is a fantastic picture BTW?

And I think you're probably on point with that opinion. I personally think that a lot of Solas is just Solas. I don't think he's lying about loving you, about his ideas and desires...I think he's probably much like his true self. But what I'm saying is we should be careful to assume that that's all there is to him. We know so little. We don't know his plans, what they entail, what it's going to cost him, us or the world. We don't know how he lived, we don't know anything about his past, how he came into being, what he's seen.

This is a man who has probably been alive for thousands of years, thousands upon thousands of years. We know nothing. We know how he is with our Lavellans. We know a portion of his personality. But as the last scene shows us, he's willing to make sacrifices for what he wants. He's willing to kill his onetime closest friend. Willing to do whatever it takes.

And that's a side of him I'm not sure my Lavellan would have ever really considered.

Eh, I don't agree.

And you don't have to.

That's just how I see it.

Edit: We see it differently because we see what we want. I want Solas all powerful, shooting people down with his eyeball lightning bolts that get in his way. I think it's hot.

Terrwyn is...fairly happy. And she can be a bit of a goof with people she's close to. She does have a past that hurts, but she keeps it private and wears it as armor; it does wear on her now and then, but it drives her forward more than it holds her back. On a happiness scale, I'd give her an 8 out of 10.

Hey guys, remember the time we were freaked out when we thought Solas was eaten by the dragon? Ahhhh good times.

Hey guys, remember the time we were freaked out when we thought Solas was eaten by the dragon? Ahhhh good times.

Remember when we thought the Tower tarot card was maybe hinting that the Dread Wolf was after Solas for some reason? Gooooood times.

Remember when we went through a period where we were convinced Solas wasn't going to be a romance option? And we buddied up with the Varric thread in our joint sadness? Gooooood times!

Remember when we thought he was going to be an awkward, blushy, fumbling nerd? GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD TIMES!!!

And my favorite: Remember when people were convinced that Solas was Dorian back before we knew Solas' name or what Dorian looked like?

Also, that statement of Chris Priestly's that someone on the thread happened to see in some Facebook group that pretty much revealed the presence of a twist months beforehand but we weren't sure what to make of it? And we were all scared it would be Anders 2.0? If I remember correctly, it was something like "Solas will be the character fans will be talking about afterwards". We knew this before we knew any other real information about Solas!

Edit: There's more!

REMEMBER WHEN WE ALL WANTED TO THROW VIVIENNE OUT A WINDOW BECAUSE WE ONLY GOT INFORMATION ABOUT HER FOR THE LONGEST TIME??? AND THEN WE HAD TO WAIT 15,000 YEARS FOR ANY SOLAS INFO AND HOPED IT WASN'T AN OMINOUS SIGN THAT THEY WERE SO QUIET ABOUT HIM??? AND THEN IT TURNED OUT IT TOTALLY WAS AN OMINOUS SIGN???

My comic for Saturday. <3

Plus couples counseling.

Solavellen: ... And everything was going, so, so, so... Well... [bursts into tears] Until I discovered he was a DOG!

Solas: [Quietly] God, Ellana, god...

Counsellor: Please, just let Ellana finish what she was saying...

I guess I got lucky almost none of my friends want to have kids. So I haven't lost them to family life yet.

I don't know why it made me so emotional. Maybe because it was just so touching to see Morrigan so changed, so much softer. Alistair is not wrong there, no matter how much she protests it. Her character development is awesome. From antisocial b*tch who hated everyone to loving mother. Who would have thought that Morrigan of all people could end up with a family. She's my favorite character now.

Or maybe it's a weird combination of having grown up without a father and my own chances of becoming a mother looking grim right now.
