So I have a question for y'all because I love seeing other people's Lavellans and their stories.
How did your Lavellans adjust to being part of (and eventually leading) the human-centric Inquisition? How did they handle things like religion, cultural assimilation (if any), homesickness, etc. It's a topic I find interesting because of all the PCs, Lavellan strikes me as the most fish out of water, and the game's prologue unfortunately didn't have time to address it.
My Lavellan, Clariel, was scared as f*** at first. She didn't hate or fear humans in general, but being surrounded by a bunch of unfamiliar faces while the world was ending was not a good way to start. It's part of why she spent so much time with Solas; for all his grumping at the Dalish, it's natural to gravitate to anything remotely familiar in that situation. She spent a lot of time at Haven reading and absorbing as much knowledge about her new world as possible. Learning helped her get her bearings, and definitely held the fear at bay.
By the time they got to Skyhold, she'd become very fond of the people in the Inquisition. After she started seeing them less as strangers and more as friends, she adjusted pretty readily apart from minor quirks (feeling out-of-place in the fancy Inquisitor's quarters, having servants and staff, etc.) Somewhere around Halamshiral, she started realizing she could never really go back. She loves her family and her clan, but she can't just up and leave, even after Corypheus is defeated. Some things still make her really upset and uncomfortable: the whole Herald of Andraste thing, the way the Orlesians fetishize her people, occasional bouts of missing her parents and cousins (especially after Solas leaves).
This is a really good question! I find other people's Lavellans really interesting too.
My Lavellan is named Elladan (and yes, her name was taken from Lord of the Rings). She was definitely scared and confused by the **** that went down at the Conclave, but she kept that vulnerability hidden and tried to stay strong. This meant, though, that she would lash out at the people around her because everything was going to hell. She wanted to close the Breach as soon as possible.
In Haven she would usually just chat with the advisors and companions, but didn't get very close to any of them. She did enjoy talking to Solas a lot but they would get rather annoyed at each other due to opposing views of the Dalish. That pretty much defined the rest of their relationship: they did get together, but didn't see eye to eye on many decisions that she made (i.e. the Well of Sorrows and the Grey Wardens). They agreed to disagree, and so aside from those they were happy together.
After getting to Skyhold she got closer to the people in the Inquisition and familiarised herself with human customs. She settled into the position of Inquisitor quickly--she's not reluctant to hold the power to make important decisions that will help her people. Like Cassandra, she sees what must be done, and does it. She's also very interested in learning the culture and history of other races and nations, as well as whatever information would help bring more power to the Inquisition. Because of this, she surprised the Orlesian court at how well she played the Game.
She has a terrible temper though; she hates being called the Herald of Andraste (because she's not Andrastian), and outside of the inner circle she's seen as a distant figure. People find it hard to see past the Inquisitor title since she's already naturally stern and austere, and doesn't really make much of an effort to personally get to know many others.
She misses her clan desperately, but after they were killed in Wycome she was absolutely heartbroken. It was probably the first time that everyone saw her broken up.
