Back on the topic of romances, I think it's likely that Solas may be a gated bi LI if Vivienne is in, but I don't think it'll be dwarves like some people have guessed. This is the issue with IB that I mentioned. David Gaider has been very clear in multiple places that they are determined to give everyone two options. In the panel, they said they used the chart to make sure everyone would have options, even by race. (The example they used was, "we can't do this, it would totally screw gay male dwarves".) Since IB was planned gated and we can be pretty sure it was against at least dwarves due to rigging, I think we can assume the remaining male wouldn't be gated against dwarves. They needed someone to fill that slot if IB went through gated, as planned. I would assume his gates are likely Qunari in this case.
Quick interjection: Allan has said that it wasn't always the case that each of the sexuality/race set-ups had choices.
I was being universal. No matter what type of character you wish to play (within the confines that we tend to, for better or worse, adhere to a binary gender convention) choosing your race will not deny you choices.
EDIT: At least I'm 99% sure this is the case (it wasn't always).... I'll need to confirm.
This is why I think they worked so hard to make the Iron Bull available to everyone, and why I think the other LI has a story-based restriction that cannot be written around. Because the Iron Bull was a size-related issue, I'm of the opinion that the last male LI is gated against male dwarves. Now, that could mean that the rest of the male LI's are straight (ex. Varric) or they're bisexual but gated against dwarves.
It's also why I'm very hesitant about Blackwall being an option, unless he's straight. I'm having a hard time figuring out what story-reason a Grey Warden would have for not being interested in dwarves.
I think what she said was that Mary Kirby kept telling her to stop making Blackwall like her (Mary's) dad, wasn't it? I thought that was the tweet, unless it was something else. It's not a great sign for him, though, yeah.

However, if Vivienne is not a romance, I think Solas will be an ungated bisexual male option and Varric will be a straight gated option with Cullen having the gate(s) as the second gated LI and sort of attempting to make up for the extra straight option. This scenario actually makes a lot of sense for all characters involved, although I do not like the imbalance it creates.
Oh yeah you are right (I did find a tweet about that not the the one between Mary and Sheryl though)....but still I think Blackwall's chances of being an LI are slimmer than Solas's chances. If she's writing someone that makes others think of him as a father figure why would he be an LI?....I could be wrong..he could be our tragic love interest lol and we will have to let him go in the end for his calling....No sorry I just can't picture him being an LI...he very well could be but..no!

I think the reason Gaider was so sure is because they managed to get the Bull for everyone. If the Bull is for everyone and Dorian is for everyone (no way Dorian's gated against dwarves--Tevinter culture looks very highly on even surface dwarves), then there are now two choices. They never actually said that each setup would have options until after the Iron Bull was confirmed as ungated. In fact, I think they pretty much implied the opposite.
Granted, I could be totally wrong. But it's how I'm reading the situation.

Late to the discussion, but if Solas isn't a LI I'm going to be sad for a bit, but I think I'm gonna go party it up with whoever DID get chosen. I'll be extremely happy for those who did get their LI of choice (especially Varric fans, they've been waiting for a long time). I'm sure if Solas isn't a LI, he has a good reason for not being one, so yeah...I'll be sad for a bit, but I'm going to be a debbie downer over it (not saying other people can't, that's their choice!) but that's just me. Going to try and be optimistic either way. Life is too short

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go with their definitely being 2 race gated folk. Just not sure who they are. Josie and IB are out, as both are stated to romance with no care to your race.
However, it also hasn't been stated that the two who are gated are the two who are unannounced yet.
So, it's possible that say, Varric is one of the gated and is dwarf only. But that the other is, say Cullen or Cassandra being anti-Qunari.
Or the last two could either both or neither be race gated.
I think if a "restricted" LI were to be further restricted they would do that with a straight only character though. Previously I'd have said any race-gating would be bi/pan characters only, outside of Varric who has stated his preferences towards Dwarven women before. And I do still hold that it makes the most sense to have race-gating on a bi-LI so the content is still reaching enough players to justify it's creation.

Seriously I wouldn't mind having Varric as an LI but I gotta have my Male elf too...I had one in DA:O had one in DA 2 gotta have one in DA:I or I'm gonna be steaming mad and very very sad (I'm not gonna spew hate towards the other fan threads though). 
If Solas is an LI I'm going to be kissing my screen when I first see him in DA:I ...hey don't look at me like that I know some of you will do the same!

Before we knew ANYTHING about him, I already planned on romancing Solas if he were to be an LI to uphold my "elven husband tradition" that I've carried on since DA:O. Zevran, Fenris, it can't be put to a stop here!

In it, he says that they set the limit at 2 for each character type. In this and the romance thread, he doesn't just say that everyone will get two options, he says it's basically their policy that everyone will get two option. If he was just saying generally that everyone gets two, I would say maybe it's just lucky IB came through, but based on what Gaider says, it just doesn't seem that way, to me. He literally uses the example in the recording that they have to make a different choice as not to screw over gay male dwarves, so the scenario where they were actually going to do that seems too disingenuous for me to believe is reality.
But maybe someone could as Allan about this, since it seems like he didn't mind bringing it up?
After reading a post from DG regarding "fairness" in reference to LI distribution and advisors having just as much content as companions I need to revise my earlier statement regarding probabilities. I think we'll either see a bi Vivi and a bi male OR a bi male and Varric. That is, romance interest is generally considered to be more of a female player or gaymale player thing. (As it's generally called out on the forums, personally, I know plenty of straight male players that talk about their waifus.) So, if there is going to be a lean, I think it will be an extra bi male. Particularly since IB's swinger type portrayal(at least thus far) turns off those looking for a committed style ingame relationship. However, for things to be more even stevens in regards to availability it would be Vivi and one of the lucky boys as bi.
Don't forget that Leliana and Morrigan are our unromanceable females. The only thing that makes me wonder about Vivi is that from what we know of her thus far, she just doesn't seem the type to create such an emotional attachment. However, people could say the same about Morrigan from a description of her. So. *shrugs*
It's definitely possible that the other gated option could be a previously gated character. There may be a slightly greater chance that the gated ones are the remaining options, but it's definitely never been confirmed. Cullen seems likely to be gated, to me, based on his negative opinions of other races in the past. Dorian might not like Qunari, as a Tevinter citizen.

I think the race gating comes entirely from them adding race selection back into the game. Which is a reason why I'm hesitant about Varric. So I think the three race-gating was sort of an accident that they rushed to fix to make sure there were options for gay dwarves. Hence, the Chart was needed to look over the options they'd already had to make sure they were spread out for all races.
It would be nice to have clarification, but I doubt they'll talk about it until the last two LI's are confirmed.
I wish they would just tell us the last LIs.. Everyone is getting so irritated, especially in the romance thread. And they in turn are irritating the devs. They could just end this pain, but then there would be the inevitable fallout. Sigh.

YES! Positivity! I am positive! I blame the romance thread.. I always tell myself... just one peek, okay? Don't go posting in there and stirring up the debate even further... Next thing you know I've argued and gotten yelled at and rolled my eyes at a bunch of people and then my mood is like this
