But how would the trapped dreamers benefit from spreading the blight? It's not like darkspawn can go marching into the Fade to set them free, and a blighted Thedas is an apocalyptic Thedas, of no benefit to those dreamers

Yes. So say the blight's a twisted version of the well of sorrows. You're bound to whichever being's in charge of the "blight well", and the singing you hear's something like the whispers the Inquisitor or Morrigan hears

I perhaps they have lost their minds to the blight, the same way a ghoul will attack the people around them to further spread the blight?

<snip>

"Myth" was on heavy rotation after The Thing.  I love that song(I love Beach House).  That line "let the ashes fly" and the way she sings it.  SHIVERS UP MY SPINE.  SOLAS WHY?

This was another one - this album of there's was just 'meh'. I love their first one.

Future Islands - Seasons

As it breaks, the summer will wake
But the winter will wash what is left of the taste
As it breaks, the summer will warm
But the winter will crave what is gone
Will crave what has all... gone away

Here's a question: Does every god or goddess in the pantheon have his or her own well?

Maybe. But everyone we've seen who can control the blight so far, namely the Architect, Corypheus, and the archdemons, while arguably slightly unhinged, aren't mindless creatures like ghouls at all. And they're not just sentient, they're actually pretty intelligent.

The only other well ever mentioned was the one Andraste went to when she talked to the Maker, so we don't know.

It's possible they're not all wells though

I don't know that they can control the blight. My theory is only that they are indeed blighted and that their status as Dreamers caused Arlathan's reflection to become corrupted in the Fade. *shrug*

We have the story of Andruil going to the void and coming back corrupted. We also have stories of the gods being crazy violent (though I'm willing to put that down to megalomania). I don't think Solas started the blight, but he could have sealed them away to prevent it from spreading. After all, according to Cole he "...did it to save them"

I'm sure he didn't create it. Just speculating. I mean we know so little. Anything is possible, and I'm just so damned curious. As are we all, which explains why we are here, discussing this.

Also, I am secretly procrastinating in hopes that the lawn will eventually mow itself...

Ah, yeah, control's not the right word. They can certainly make use of the blight though. The archdemons use it to communicate to the darkspawn, and Cory uses it to fuel his magic.

So basically, you're theorizing the dreamers trapped in Arlathan were the first mindless darkspawn?

At least you can mow your lawn. Mine is covered in like 3 feet of snow right now :(

I know... :( My self-insert Lavellan is going to grab Solas and shake him until all the lore comes out.

Which makes the Blight a tool, not a force of nature

Nuclear fusion is a force of nature that's used as tool.  Fire is used as a tool.  The Old Gods manipulate the Blight, but it may well be a force of nature, not unlike power from the Fade.

Favorite minor character. I hope that guy is doing ok.  I let him live.  I liked the epilogue said he was helping travelers.  i'm sure he was entertaingly wacky about it. DLC WITH THAT GUY!

My issue with "the song" is that so many things are described as having a song.  The Fade sings, uncorrupted Lyrium sings, corrupted Lyrium sings, blighted creatures hear a song even without an Archdemon raging(The Calling).  I feel like something is just calling to people/things that are tuned either naturally/unnaturally to some sort of frequency.  I don't think it's an Old God...if it's something, it's something much older.  Something that exists in reality and out of it, because Justice talks about hearing it in The Fade.

He was like the Cole of darkspawn.  Poor guy, my Surana had a no mercy policy with darkspawn because of the risks.

As Cole says, they all sing, but never the same song.  The Calling from the Blight is coming from the Old Gods, we know that much.  That's why the darkspawn seek them out, and the Grey Wardens hear them too when their corruption is bad enough or a Blight is on.  Remember when the Warden dreams of the Archdemon?  Of course, there's that one story about that Warden-Commander who delayed going on his Calling and believed he was communicating with some ancient elven princess...hm.

He does mention them, when you say "should I ride in on a white steed?" There's also an astrarium that links the halla and griffons, even though Colonel hates to be reminded of it.  :D

Oooo....  This is intriguing... :D

Oh no, I am missing good discussion!

If there is a 'mind' behind the blight, then I definitely think this is a possibility. According to the Mother, many darkspawn like the song. It gives them purpose. So it can't completely be chaos. Something is issuing steady commands, even if they are not necessarily in words.

The question is whether or not the mind behind the blight is simply the most infected being [like an archdemon], or if there's another entity beyond that.

Maybe not true darkspawn, but ghouls, yes. I admit the theory is waaaay out there :D

Oh god I just got this terrible thought that we're in Solas' temple, and he's dying, and with his bit of strength he takes you to his own well and gives you the last thing he can, everything he knows and has learn, his greatest gift, his history...so you can bring peace and magic once more to your people. You both enter the well and as he passes on his most precious gift he dies and you take the knowledge he gifted to you to make the elves great again.

Good point . Rephrase then: The blight may be a force of nature, but the way it's acting now, it isn't natural. It's being directed.

What's this about the elven princess? I'm not sure I've read that before

I really think there's another entity behind the archdemons. Flemeth wouldn't consider saving one if that weren't the case

I agree that the old god dragons aren't in control of the blight at all. I never considered the Flemeth angle though, so thanks!!! Also, if Kieran had the old god soul, did he put out a calling????

It would not necessarily need to be an archdemon. What I mean is: is the person at the end of the chain the creator and controller of the blight, or is the person at the end of the chain simply the strongest infected individual? There definitely seems to be a hierarchy among dark spawn.

So, if the elven gods got infected: is the song a side effect of the blight grabbing hold of individuals with such immense power? Or, did the blight grab onto them, making them controllable by another party?

I don't think so. He doesn't get swamped by darkspawn after all. In fact, Morrigan's never concerned about darkspawn going after Kieran. She's only thinking about Flemeth, and even Flemeth doesn't find them until the Well of Sorrows. So I think the OGS was pretty contained

Hm...then it's not the soul that produces the calling. Something about the dragons themselves?

I think she may have had concerns. Keiran was born in the 'between' space like the crossroads, and then kept him there until he was presumably old enough to travel around with. Although, Morrigan could simply be a bit of a paranoid parent regardless of whether or not that was one of the things she was concerned about.

It could also be she was making 'certain' Flemeth couldn't find them.

I am clearly the world's worst Warden.  In my canon playthrough both he and the Architect live.

Regarding the Song - I wonder if the blight, Fade, lyrium are all connected on some sort of very primal level since they all give off some sort of song and a compulsion/pull/feeling that you are part of something larger.
