Well he tried to save them, according to Cole, so if they have become corrupted, it's probably just one more unintentional effect he has caused.

Maybe he tried to save them until he could find some sort of solution that ensured everyone's safety, freedom, well-being etc. And didn't before his long nap.

Someone else has probably put this much better than I can, but doesn't that have such sad implications? If what Solas has planned is to "wake" the rest of the pantheon (bad or corrupted enough as they were to warrant being sealed in the first place), it's like he looked at modern Thedas and decided it was way worse. For the elves, it really is...but still.

Okay, you've convinced me. I'll do it. I suppose if I'm to try a dating sim, one where I'm dating some pigeons is probably the most sensible option. What's it called again? "Fall in Love With a Pigeon Boy"? *brainmelt*

It's Hatoful Boyfriend. And have fun!

Little trivia on the title of that game from Wikipedia for those wondering:

The title is a pun on the wasei-eigo word hātofuru (ハートフル?, "heartful", also "hurtful"[3]), and the Japanese word hato (?, "pigeon", "dove"),

So... pride after all?

I'm not saying he did not have a point to be mad. But that does not mean to... though, maybe we should no go there. This is basically the death sentence debate, only in a video game. Does not make it any different though. There's two positions and you usually pick one. There's no "We could kill him just a little, to make him see the error of his ways?"

I acknowledge that there are many reasons to end a life, and I still think it's not right and that there's always another way.

Also killing is so simple and does not help anyone. Have somebody make up for what he id, or suffer if you like, but killing is done in a second and after that it's only emptiness. What is the gain? Further fueling the darkness, that's all I see as a result.

Yes, it's quite beautiful, isn't it!

Normally I'd agree. Personally I'd rather criminals receive life in prison over death tbh. In this case though, I honestly don't want to bother imprisoning the mages that just corrupted a summoned spirit. I do acknowledge there are better choices, but I still choose death for them though. My inquisitor's a bit of a bastard anyway and was recently hardened before the conclave stuff happened.

There is so much sadness and tragedy in Solas' character that I don't think this is an impossible theory. He has such deep regrets and wants to set things right, whatever that means. "The people need me" - open to interpretation as we wait the long wait to see what he actually has in store for us. And whether you think "people" means modern elves or not. And maybe his goal is single-minded enough that he (again) doesn't see the consequences.

I need more nowwww!

Which is why I don't subscribe to this theory. He may think the world's pretty awful now, but while he's nostalgic for the past, I don't think he considers it better than the present. On the contrary, he even tells Dorian to stuff it when he tries to romanticize Arlathan, and I bet the Dalish doing exactly that is one of his main reasons for disliking them.

Edit: And holy crap, my 3k tribute is not ready

Haha I didn't make Solas nude though because I didn't want the game to crash lol

True. What you can imagine is far superior to what is actually "real"...I hope, lol.

Yeah. I think he may see this as a chance to set things up as 'they should have been', now that he has no other gods to contest his vision of the world.

Which is in itself a frightening thought.

First, Siha softened because she saw me for who I am, a lovely human full of wit and charm.

Aww <3
And I so would have told you what that... Ken...thingy is. If only I had known. But I'm too old and far too indifferent to know things like that. I actually only watch Doctor Who. And only on Netflix. And only to drool over David Tennant. I have no idea what that series is actually about. Something like Emergency Room, I assume.

Uhuh :P You pulled a fast one on my vhenan, but I'm not so easily fooled, Sister ;)

And how well she did it even, take an example! Though, that Conan gif was a nice start. (Highlander next time.) :kissing:

So can you say that you have been...converted? You want some of that fine ass Elven Glory? You want your inner Fade tingled by The Dread Wolf? Well, Conan...you may try to deny it but we know you want to hear that wolf howl.

That's superior! I wish I had been here to applaud you for it and use it as the proverbial stick to poke the Colonel. Argh.

And I hope I can remember these to use at any appropriate occasion.

Agreed. I really don't know what his vision's going to entail. Is he planning to dismantle Tevinter to free the slaves? But then that clears the way for a Qunari invasion. Get rid of the Qun then? But no, while he hates it, he's not exactly involved in it either.

And that's why I'm thinking he's off to fight some malevolent force that's somehow threatening the freedom of all mankind. Hence, the Blight.

Right? In regards to Solas and his future plans, I haven't quite found a theory that makes me go "Ah!" Many of the ones presented in this thread have been interesting (and supported by the story/lore in one way or another; everyone is sincerely brilliant at formulating them). But there's always a thread missing, something that doesn't quite mesh. It's sort of like during that Solas/Cole banter, where Dorian interjects that it's fascinating...but like trying to figure out a puzzle without all of the pieces.

However, I do think that his irritation with Dorian and the Dalish on this point comes from their rather black-and-white views when it comes to these subjects. For instance, Dorian takes it upon himself to apologize for Tevinter; the language he employs suggests that at the time, he believes Tevinter toppled a beautiful society perhaps undeserving of such a fate. "It sounds like a magical place, and for my ancestors to have destroyed it...." Solas knows they weren't perfect, and that his people were in some ways, "no better than Tevinter." They kept slaves, for instance, just as the Tevine do. As to the Dalish, well...many clans stubbornly hold to their beliefs without accepting more. Many turned Solas away as a madman, and apparently their Keepers argue forever about history whenever the clans finally connect. I wonder if it's not the romanticizing itself that bothers him, but the fact that the romanticizing blinds them to further consideration and growth.

And I think I'm rambling now, sorry.  I'm not sure I'm making my point well.

You have that one victory over Boom and I. Don't pat yourself on the back just yet, let Solas do it for you. I could also make a quip about being "easily tricked" with a Trickster comment, but I'll save that for another time.

So I've been meaning to post some screens of my Lavellan, Tala, and have finally transferred them from my PS4. I love her. She's a weird little bad-ass. Brace yourself for one hell of an image dump.

Haha! I have a confession: I may have played through all the reactions, more than once, to, I don't know, bask in the pain or something. My canon response is the sad puppy one where Lavellan folds in on herself like a crushed flower as Solas walks brokenly away. *sniff*
