I shiver in anticccccccipation.

So we are trying to find excuses now?
Really, I don't mind the quests. But BW did not quite go out of their way to make these quests sensible considering the character. As I said, Solas' quest is not as bad as Bulls (why the heck do we not just walk those five steps over to his guys (who are only outmatched 1:2 anyway) and help them?) but it is also not really convincing. He could have gone there to see what is going on. Besides, how long have those mages waited around the Plains already, immobile and frightened to death on that open, unprotected, and completely indefensible space, before we finally arrive and see what's going on?

I think the quest makes sense. He is an integral part of the Inquisitor's squad and unofficial Weird **** and Hipster Arcane Knowledge Advisor. He could go wandering off on his own, but why should he? He has the resources of the Inquisition at hand, and the Inquisitor them self. While prideful, I don't think Solas is one to charge in bull-headed into a largely unknown situation. I don't see it as being much different from the Inquisitor dragging Solas around on Hinterlands fetch quests. As badass as they all are, they need meatshields back-up.
I agree that some of the quests are
. Bull's in particular. I'm convinced that the whole situation was contrived to test Bull's loyalty in addition to testing the waters with the Inquisition itself. Except it seems absurdly wasteful to risk an entire dreadnought for the sake of a single Ben-Hassrath, as a loyalty mission. And how easily the ship goes down to Magisters raises a lot of questions about the Qunari's naval dominance.
Maybe the Magisters stick to land, because a good volley of gaatlok can take down a ship, and a lot of Magisters haven't been leveling their Alteration enough to bust out Water-Walking? It would explain why all further mainland invasions have failed. The Qunari can't defeat the magisters head-on, but they're enough of a danger that the Magisters, few in number, aren't willing to risk open confrontation either. It would fit with the general cold war vibe they have. ![]()
